First of all, the receptionist tells you to wait outside to ‘respect the confidentiality of the person’ who is checking in before you. Then when it’s your turn to see the receptionist, none of your privacy is respected as you have to give all your personal details very close to the waiting area, full of people. Some confidentiality! It was horrible. Then this unpleasant nurse saw my injured finger and said I only needed a basic plaster (when I had been given a massive bandage a few days before at A&E), and she kept saying it was a minor cut, and she seemed to imply I shouldn’t be there, using the service. I wanted to tell her that the service is after all, a ‘Minor Injury Unit’ or had she not noticed where she was working? All in all, not a pleasant and respectful experience. I was there on 9 November between 10 and 12 approx.

Got there at 10am on a sunday morning, thinking i would be there for hours as it was a sunday and was quite busy. However once checked in with the receptionist, i was called in by the doctor within 15 mins. Problem was sorted and given medicine. All the staff are amazing and keep their cool within how busy they are.

I arrived at 08.00 and was out at 10.30 with my diagnosis and medication for a severe facial and eye infection. I don't know where these bad reviews come from maybe it's the attitude of the patients. The receptionist was effient polite but firm as they have to be, listening to how rude some members of the public were towards them I'd have told them to go elsewhere. The triage nurse was seen within 25 mins she was polite but firm totally understandable. The doctor was fantastic explained everything perfectly and gave me the prescribed antibiotics.And in this country free of charge for their time or the medication. If it takes a few hours of your time so be it. We should be proud of the beckenham beacon and all its staff for all their hard work and dedication to look after us. Maybe when you go there try smiling at them and be polite and patient and maybe you will have the experience I have just had. Thank you to all the staff.

On the advices of the doctor I took my son to the beacon. The receptionist totally blanked me and didn’t even acknowledge my presence at the counter when I asked politely if I could book my son in. When I did get to the nurse for the initial assessment she just said why are you here, which I explained was referred and she asked again so why are you here. She was extremely rude and uncaring so very disappointed with this as well as how my son perceived this experience.

Like other reviewers, I have issues with some of the processes: having to give all personal details orally at the reception desk so that the whole room can hear. I also think that the triage nurse should close the door as a matter of course during assessments and that a more accurate and regularly updated assessment of waiting time should be given at reception. Also when the reception staff suggested I speak to the triage nurse about waiting time, the latter was quite rude. However, the member of the medical team who eventually saw me was fantastic- really caring and sympathetic. She provided me with the medication I needed and queried what support I had. On that basis I left satisfied. I feel fortunate to have this service locally.

Arrived here to be seen for a severely bleeding head injury but as it was 7:30pm I was told by a nurse that I couldn’t be seen in case she had to do something so had to drive to the pruh - I thought they were there to help, patently not if it will get in the way of home time!!

I took my 3 year old to see the doctor today. We saw a friendly nurse who was great with my daughter, but the doctor was very rude. The whole process felt rushed and she was visibly irritable with me for not knowing my daughter's current weight or the name of antibiotics she was given two years ago. She also became annoyed when I explained the trouble we'd had in getting our daughter to take ibrupofen (not always easy to get a toddler to take medication!) and created a sense of panic (and not reassurance) as she talked through the possible consequences of my actions. I also felt unable to ask further questions about my daughter's medication as I felt rushed and that she would be annoyed at me for taking more of her time. I left feeling like I'd been shamed, like I was a bad mother. Alongside medical knowledge, a compassionate and kind bedside manner is important. I really appreciate the strain and pressure NHS staff are under at the moment. However, this was a really unpleasant experience and left me feeling the need to call another doctor to ask the questions that I didn't feel able to ask at the time.

Myself and my husband took our 7 week old son here, the doctor who saw us was so unprofessional and very rude! She spoke to us like we were children, talked down to us like we haven’t had children before, she had to ring pruh to let them know we would be coming to see the paediatrician, whilst on the phone she said “have a baby here who’s got a temp (he only had that because he worked himself up, twice he was checked) that mum and dad didn’t know about, but they do look young” I mean it’s a compliment but we are 32/34 lol. Baby was crying and she kept tutting and saying what does he want…after we were leaving she said “wow after that I need my break” defo shouldn’t be in the job! Receptionist who booked you in was absolutely lovely x
