  1. Review titled More interested in getting home than patient care

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 20 January 2025

Came in after an urgent referral; had 2 tests and was told someone would call in the morning as furter tests needed. 4 days later, no phonecall and every time i call i'm either given a new number to call or I am cut off as "you are now closed" at 12.30 in the afternoon. I have been given direct numbers, different contact centre numbers and I am still waiting on an answer as to what is going on. 4 days of stress is disgusting treatment of a human. A vet would show a dog more humanity than is being shown here!

  2. Review titled Consistent Excellence

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Dear Sir/Madam I hope this message finds you in good health. I have been a patient at this practice for some time now and have only had positive experiences. I would like to highlight my Opthamology appointment with the member of staff who helped me today on 15/02/2025 at 1pm (the feedback does not let me include R S A H O T A), I always feel positive leaving the room with a better understanding about my vision, I also feel comfortable to ask any questions. I appreciate the patience as well as the amazing service your member of staff and the whole clinic provide. Keep up the great work, be proud of yourselves and God bless.

  4. Review titled Impressive service - again

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Trevor - Posted on 23 January 2025

I attended an outpatients appointment for an epiretinal membrane and cataract. Apart from some confusion over which entrance should be used for outpatients (various signs pointed in different directions), I was impressed from the outset by the friendliness, good humour and efficiency of all the staff with whom I had contact. As always, the clinic was very busy, but it seemed to run like a well-oiled machine without the stressful atmosphere that I've encountered elsewhere. I had been given a sight test, dilation drops, retinal scan and a consultation with a surgeon all within an hour and a half. The consultation itself was excellent and unrushed with the doctor explaining everything very thoroughly and answering most of my questions before I had chance to ask them. As on my previous visits, the first of which was as an emergency due to a retinal detachment, I was very impressed. Many thanks to all concerned.

Phone system is not fit for purpose Tried phoning over two weeks several times a day only to get the message that I was number 1 in the queue and then to be cut off after a few minutes.

  6. Review titled Exceptional Service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Ram Sugavanam - Posted on 26 November 2024

Today I underwent cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation at Birmingham Midlands Eye Centre and I cannot express enough how impressed I was with the entire experience. From the moment I arrived, the level of care and professionalism was outstanding. The Surgeon and his dedicated team truly went above and beyond. They took the time to explain every step of the procedure, addressing all my concerns and ensuring I felt comfortable and well-informed. The surgery went smoothly, and I felt supported throughout the entire process. The team’s expertise and compassionate approach made a potentially daunting experience much easier for me. I am grateful to them for their exceptional care and would highly recommend BMEC to anyone considering eye surgery. Thank you, to the Surgeon and to the entire BMEC team for your fantastic work! But I do have an issue with the feed back system that does not allow me to name a person who did provide excellent service.

  7. Review titled Phone wait

by Keith Yates - Posted on 01 September 2024

Sunday tried to phone triage. Told I’m number three inline. Two and half hours later still at number one. Been in number one position for forty minutes and have given up. Realise what a great job the eye clinic does but this phone service is cruel and time wasting. Just tell the truth and say you are unavailable due to health cuts and under staffing. Other than that I think you all do a great job and thank you all. You are appreciated. All the best

  9. Review titled Non-service

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 10 August 2024

I spent over five hours in queue for a triage nurse, only to be disconnected. Cannot reach hospital, no one answers the phone. I don't mind being patient, but if a phone triage service is not in use, they should turn the phone off rather than have people wait for "help" that will never come. Contacted 111, they referred me to eye hospital triage number. Eye hospital is unreachable. Called back 111, they said I just "have to be patient". This is very, very poor care- its not even care, it's the complete abdication of care. I have a screen shot to prove that I was on hold that long.

  10. Review titled A broken service

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Jeanette - Posted on 11 August 2024

Waiting time from triage to actually seeing a doctor was over four hours. Nursing staff helpful. Admin staff at reception desk not so helpful. Quite hostile to incoming patients at times probably due to volume of people arriving. There appeared to be a distinct lack of doctors and those who were there seemed to take much too long in between seeing patients. The fact that before each patient they have to walk to the reception office to collect the next patients notes seems unbelievable in this digital age. I actually did not see one senior doctor in all the time I sat waiting. Although there did seem to be a lot of walking about in the department and not doing a lot else. The system ?? seems completely broken
