  1. Review titled Very helpful

Rated 5 stars out of 5

When I first started with this practice I was a bit anxious and sceptical as I did not know what to expect with it being my first time receiving therapy. However after the first few sessions I found myself staring to be a lot more open to the idea of it and became a lot more confident and open about my problems. This is in no small part to the excellent service I received they were very easy to talk to and were quick to explain anything I didn't understand. Loved having the choice to access from my phone at home as it means I could be on time to very appointment after work and could do it in a more familiar and comfortable environment. The homework I received on a weekly basis I have found very useful it has left me some good tools to go back to and has taught me to look at my problems from an entirely different perspective. Would highly recommend this practice to anyone who is starting out or is looking for somewhere new.

  2. Review titled A definite and positive step forward

by Tony - Posted on 08 July 2024

I had approached my Doctor in a state of severe depression, and was signed off work for a month. Whilst I was able to recover in that time, the underlying issues were still there and on my return to work, my Mental Health declined again , so I approached DHC Talking Therapies. Although I was aware of what the problems were, I needed help in managing them. Through some excellent counselling, I was able to find myself again. I was asked towards the end of my sessions if I'd considered being a counsellor. A true testament to recovery through excellent counselling, which I am seriously considering. I would not hesitate, and indeed, have not hesitated to suggest counselling to those who are struggling. It really does help clear the mind, put things into perspective, allowing you to move forward with your life. Please don't struggle alone. The help is there if you need it.

  3. Review titled Very positive experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Maggie - Posted on 30 May 2024

I recently completed 11 one to one sessions via video link. I found the initial assessment and the sessions provided were both friendly and professional. Being an extremely private and fairly reserved person I was rather reluctant to undertake therapy, the idea of opening up to someone, particularly a stranger was quite daunting. I found the therapist to be kind, professional, friendly, caring, empathetic and extremely patient. At no point did she make me feel under pressure or judged. Her guidance and support throughout has been invaluable and has made a significant difference to my general outlook, sleep, mood and anxiety. Going through this process has been incredibly challenging but extremely positive. Completing the homework and following the advice and suggestions made by the therapist is imperative, it takes time and effort but it has undoubtedly had a positive impact. I am incredibly grateful to the therapist for her time, advice, support and the specific tools/strategies used to help me deal with and come to terms with what has been a very difficult time. Thank you !

  4. Review titled Terrible service and snotty therapist

by Anonymous - Posted on 28 May 2024

I missed two of my appointments and i was told on a text to expect a call. I got a call from a abrupt woman who told me it's a video call and where am I. I said i had to deal with my dog because she got angry at the postman (clique but true). I made a joke of it and utter silence no laugh just utter silence then asking me again then to say I do have anouther appointment after yours. I told her how do i join.. Its on a previous email which i couldn't find. I want a therapist who is kind, easy going and possibly sounds like she wants to talk... Professional people in this field can be ridiculously stuck up. No thank you I'll find my own way... Mental health.. Pfft yeah ok.

  5. Review titled Helpful advice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I attended five sessions of guided self help based on CBT, concentrating on worry management. At first I was nervous and apprehensive but my therapist was kind and friendly and soon put me at ease. We looked at techniques to help me deal with worries, and I was given homework tasks which we looked at and dealt with in the next therapy session. I gradually found I learnt to look at things in a more rational and confident way. I am very grateful to my therapist for teaching me a different way of thinking about things.

  6. Review titled Positive steps

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I was very sceptical to try therapy, in honesty I didn’t think CBT would work for me but I’m so glad I allowed myself to give it a go. It was hard at first talking to a stranger, particularly when I’m in a job role where people tell me about their lives every day and I try and help them, but my therapist was honestly great. She listened, encouraged and never judged. I felt challenged by the things we discussed and the ‘homework’ I was set but nothing was too overwhelming or time consuming. The self reflections each week were so useful in helping me identify and understand things in myself, things I had not seen before but now that I do, I can address and manage them better. After 5 sessions I’m by no means free of low moods/depression, but I feel my therapist helped me make a good start and equipped me with the skills I need to manage it and keep moving in the right direction. Thank you for everything!

  7. Review titled Amazing service!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I have recently received 4 sessions of cbt with a great practitioner from dhc Talking Therapies. I was apprehensive at first but was quickly put at ease. I now feel I have some great tools in my toolkit and feel so much more positive about life and the challenges I might face in the future. The programme was easy to follow and the guides/ videos were amazing to keep referring to. My anxieties will never go completely as that is part of life but I now feel I no longer let them control me. Thank you for all your help and support.

  8. Review titled Diabolical assessment

Rated 3 stars out of 5

Having seen my gp for depression I started on anti-depressants, I also referred to talking therapies as suggested by my gp. The tablets eliminated the depression but casued me have anxiety instead. The therapy appointment came though within a month and I was to have a 45 min telephone assessment. I filled in the online questionaire which now I was on medication scored very low. The very polite and well spoken person stated my scores were low, I explained the medication had resolved the initial issue yet needed to address the causes. The assessor explained there were 2 choices to pick from, I made one. Rather than the assessment start the person stated that the one I picked had a longer wait possibly many months. As the medication I had started would have to be for many months I replied that was fine go ahead with the assessment. The assessor again asked if I wanted to proceed but explained I could also refer to M I N D instead or at the same time as talking therapies. I explained why I preferred the N H S and again was asked do I want to go ahead with the assessment. After being sent in circles 3 times when asked if I wanted to go ahead I now felt stressed, angry and anxious. Politely I replied that I did not feel the assessor felt I was ill enough and that they did not want to complete the assessment, I then put the telephone down after 20 minutes achieving nothing.

  9. Review titled Effective and personalised

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Sophy - Posted on 23 February 2024

Having recently completed 7 sessions of one-to-one talking therapy for my health anxiety, I am compelled to share my positive experience. The therapy was profoundly impactful in addressing my specific needs. Firstly, the therapist deserves special mention for her exceptional listening skills and empathetic approach. Each session felt like a safe space where I could openly discuss my anxieties without any judgment. This level of understanding and care was instrumental in helping me navigate through my challenges. What stood out to me was the ‘comprehensive toolbox’ provided by the therapist. These practical strategies and techniques are tailored to my personal situation, making them incredibly relevant and effective. Applying these tools to my daily life has been a game changer, allowing me to confront and manage situations that would have previously triggered anxiety. The most significant outcome of these sessions has been the noticeable reduction in my anxiety levels. It’s a relief to see such a marked improvement over a relatively short period. This progress has been a testament to the therapist’s expertise and the efficacy of the therapy. Thank you!

  10. Review titled Quickly passed over and then no help

by Anonymous - Posted on 23 March 2024

After my first evaluation I was referred to a different clinic, after being advised the current one could not and would not help me, new clinic tried to call I was at work, I tried to call back and nobody ever answered or helped so I’ve now been left after 10 long weeks of waiting with no help and in a worse mental state than before. The nhs clearly have no interest in helping.
