    I was referred to Newmedica about 7 months ago for a cataract operation on my right eye. I attended 2 eye tests and reviews prior to the operation. I was placed on the Glaucoma pathway but as I understand it, the main problem was hypertension within the eyes. This was treated successfully with daily drops for about 5 months and is continuing. This was all explained very clearly. I had the cataract operation on one eye on 13th Feb 2025. The operation was carried out exactly as explained and the whole procedure including the pre-op preparation was very smooth. Everyone involved was cheerful, confident and helpful. I was concerned that there might be some pain when the anaesthetics wore off but this didn't happen. There was some discomfort for the rest of the day whilst the eye mask had to be retained but this soon disappeared the following day. The only difficulty being felt was the lack of clear reading vision in the right eye because the varifocal lens is no longer appropriate for this eye. There was some misting for the first couple of days but this, after 5 days, has gone. I checked that this was normal with Newmedica reception on day one. I have returned to normal activities including driving and reading. The only down side is the need to place 10 eye drops in my eyes daily, 4 of which are for the hypertension. The visible improvement to my eye was the increased brightness of white light!! It is now 5 days after the operation and the sight in the eye is now clear but new glasses will be needed. My Optician and I have already received the post Op report and the Post Op Cataract eye test has already been booked for mid March. All very efficient. There was a cancellation of an eye test at Newmedica with only 24 hours notice but it is recognised that these things happen. I was a little disappointed that it was nearly a month before a new appointment could be held, but I don't believe this impacted the timing of my treatment and the staff were very apologetic. In summary, my experience overall was outstanding and in particular the staff were all attentive and friendly.

    I can’t thank the staff enough kind ,courteous and very efficient my appointment was bang on time and also my wife’s ,we both came for laser treatment the procedure was explained and processed with in less than a minute I can now see properly what a gift they gave both of us

    I am sorry to have to leave a negative review as all the staff are lovely. I recently had a cataract / lens replacement. The procedure itself was quick and painless. However, the next day my vision was blurred plus I had lost the bottom and peripheral vision. I contacted Newmedica and was advised that blurred vision for a couple of weeks was normal and not to worry. I have to say that this is not how it was "sold" to me. The following day I was still extremely distressed as I make my living driving. I again made further contact. Newmedica did not seem concerned and asked me to come in after a few days. On arrival I underwent various tests and eventually saw their optician. He was clearly concerned and left the room several times to consult. Apparently the pressure in my eye high was extremely high. In my opinion. had I been seen right away perhaps the outcome would have been different. The pressure build up had caused the blood supply to part of the optic nerve to be cut off. What was concerning is the attending Ophthalmologist at Newmedica made no effort to see me and left me in the hands of the optician. I was given some pressure relieving tablets and was directed to the emergency eye ward at the Queen Alexandra hospital. The staff and Ophthalmologist at the QA were fantastic and really concerned. I underwent several tests and a blood test to rule out various possible causes. I was prescribed a course of steroids and various eye drops. Plus given several follow up appointments. Anyway, to cut a long story short, it has now been a month since the op. I have been left with life changing circumstances whereby I have lost around 50% of my vision in my eye and told that it will not improve and there is a chance that it will get worse. I paid privately, which in itself cost a significant amount. Needless to say I am an extremely unhappy customer. Like
