by Glenis - Posted on 03 July 2024

After contacting 111 for help I was given an appointment at the urgent care centre in Redcar. Redcar Primary Care Hospital. After initial assessments were complete I was seen by a Dr. I wish to say thank you to the Dr and all staff members for their care and attention. I am very grateful for all the help and support.

  2. Review titled Competent and courteous

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I would like to leave this message to say how impressed I was with the care and treatment I received today. My condition was assessed accurately and the history of my condition was taken into account then I was offered appropriate treatment without having to wait too long. The reception and clinical staff were polite and courteous and showed warmth. As a first-time attendance, I was really very impressed. Thank you so much.

Excellent care and compassion from all the staff at Redcar Primary care hospital. I was seen in urgent care and was in considerable pain at the time. The staff were all friendly and listened attentively to my concerns, this includes the reception staff who are often given a hard time. Thank you for your help

  4. Review titled Terrible Triage

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Louise - Posted on 30 March 2024

After visiting the urgent care yesterday with a small child who had a head injury and was bleeding, I was appalled at the service we received. On arrival there was around 3 adults in front, as an approached the front of the queue I was actually told “can you get back behind the line”. Even though I was obviously a concerned parent with a small child in my arms who was crying and very obviously bleeding as we were both covered the staff were more concerned about ensuring I stayed in line! After a member of staff took a very brief look she declared ‘oh it’s just a small cut’ - (which by the amount of blood it obviously wasn’t) and than asked to go and sit in the waiting room - around the corner where no one could observe! We sat there for three hours with me clutching my child and holding a tea towel which we had brought to his head to try and control the bleeding! As we had rushed out of that house I had no money, drinks or food with me and therefore my child had to go without a drink, no one thought to offer us a cup of water. When we eventually got seen they discovered that actually it was a very nasty cut and needed glue and steri-strips. My child was obviously very upset. The health worker who was doing the steri-strips advised my child would need to lie back. I explained my child has congenital glaucoma and is extremely light sensitive and therefore lying right back is not an option. This was not taken into account, both workers just tried to hold him down and fight it, this obviously just upset him more causing the bleeding to become worse! Eventually they got the gash half glued and half steri-stripped and than declared that’s the the best we can do. No bandage was put on even though they kept saying “make sure he doesn’t pull the strips off . I was really surprised at the lack of care for a clearly very upset small child. I was than given a leaflet on head injury’s and shown out, however I was not made aware of how long to leave the steri-strips on. The lack of care and empathy shown throughout our full visit was awful and I would certainly not advise taking an ill/injured child there.

  5. Review titled Very satisfactory ear infection appointment

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by David Britton - Posted on 06 February 2024

I went to my doctor's on Friday afternoon with an ear infection. They booked up an appointment for me the next morning at Redcar Hospital's Ravenscar Centre. A very thorough and pleasant lady saw me and confirmed the infection and prescribed antibiotics which I then collected from their pharmacy. It is often difficult to get quick medical attention nowadays so this was extremely pleasing. The hospital is easy to access with good free car parking.

  6. Review titled Terrible Triage service (Worrying)

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Iain Sharples - Posted on 30 January 2024

My Son who is 16month old tripped at home and had a 1inch gash to the frontal lobe. He suffered bleeding to the point where his eyes were closing, but I maintained pressure to the wound and kept him awake. On arrival at Redcar Primary A&E (Triage) he had his observations done and we were told to wait. There was a queue of approx 5 adult women and 2 children approx between the ages of 11-13. We were in the waiting area near the front of Triage reception sat with our young son holding his head maintaining pressure, we were told that we were unable to wait there and had to go around the corner (not provided a reason) 30 minutes pass and people have went in before us who shouldn't have been, as ex forces I know that Triage priorities calualties/patients in order of urgency and not in order of who came first. Every other individual at the waiting room were silent and not in distress, they were all dressed and with make up on, a good point to note that if it was an emergency it is unlikely a person would prioritise make up over being treated asap. I began losing patience as I knew this was wrong we should have been seen immediately. I went to reception and said'Excuse me how long in the wait as I have a 16month old, with a head injury bleeding and in distress, to which I was told (It can be a while as we only have two staff on (one of the nurses was present in this conversation) 'I said I understand that but my son is in distress can you give me a rough time?' and they said (currently he is at the bottom of the list as he came in last) To which I replied 'I don't think you understand the situation' and I repeated the situation. I also said 'This is Triage patients should be prioritised in order of urgency and not who came first' and they said (he is at the bottom currently) then ignored me, they did not care. I asked what the wait was in Children's A&E James cook Hospital Middlesbrough and I was told (not long currently three people, and that I can go there if I wished) I walked away in disappointment and disbelief and drove my family to James cook with my sons head wound still bleeding. There was no sense of urgency at Redcar Hospital, the Staff did not care and they shown a lack of ability to correctly prioritise patients. On arrival at James Cook we were seen quickly however the Nurse steristripped his wound then glued when they should have glued then steristripped, due to this we had to go again 6hrs later as blood was coming through. The doctor at James cook was going to send him home with blood coming through until we told her it had been incorrectly in the first instance. Overall extremely poor a shambles, leadership qualities lacking, common sense lacking, sense of urgency lacking, humanity lacking. I am not one to complain usually, I am the type who would normally brush it off (if it were me)but when it is children younger than two, this can not be ignored and needs to be addressed asap. Regards, Iain Sharples

  8. Review titled Very Poor

Rated 1 star out of 5

    by James F - Posted on 30 August 2023

Have been to this practice several times before and noticed the care for patients starting to decline. On our most recent trip, we arrived at 18:40 on a Wednesday evening as my partner has possibly ruptured her ACL as she has done before. We arrived to a waiting room of approximately 12-15 people (nowhere close to full) we then stood at the ‘wait here’ sign. After 2 minutes, the 3 nurses behind the counter stopped talking about their weekly shop and one called us forward. Before knowing my partner’s symptoms or issues, we were told they are at capacity and we’d have to go elsewhere. The nurse who bothered to speak to us then asked my partner’s issues and told her we can either go to middlesbrough or northallerton to be seen tonight or ‘rest the leg’ and come back at 8am. Very poor and complacent nursing standards in a rather quiet hospital.

  10. Review titled Fabulous from mammogram service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 24 May 2023

Arriving I looked for signs for mammogram service I entered the hospital headed for reception and asked directions . Reply you cannot just go through - go around . Helpful would be signs on entry to say mammogram services are to the rear of the hospital . This test for women holds s certain anticipation and concern . As a senior nhs professional I hoped for a supportive response from staff in the Redcar hospital . This is not related to any of the services I received in the mobile Breast care unit . I was met with compassion and understanding from staff in that unit . ThAnkyou
