I write on behalf of my 95 year old Mum who has had two unsatisfactory experiences at Spa Medica Exeter. Both scenarios, a frightening experience for her in the Operating Theatre. The first experience (Jan 2024) there was no one to reassure her or hold her hand through the experience, it felt 'conveyer belt' & given her age & medical issues, primarily heart, all known to the team through medical details supplied through pre-op assessment & paperwork this was disappointing. She also suffered a fall prior to the Op at this appointment which was totally avoidable & meant the procedure had to be delayed by a week. For the second eye, again I was with her right up when she had to go into Theatre. I asked for a nurse to hold her hand throughout, happened & the nurse was very kind. However, the surgeon did not explain, just spoke to the theatre staff and did not address my Mum. On both occasions, Mum exited the operating Theatre in tears.

Spa Medica were amazing! Every staff member was kind, polite and friendly. Lovely people. They all explained each step of my treatment and reassured me on the day of surgery. A quick turnaround from pre op to surgery meant that anxiety was kept to a minimum. I can’t thank them enough and would definitely recommend (the biscuit selection was also top notch!)

I had laser and a cataract operation done absolutely brilliant the whole team were outstanding and all done with painless I highly recommend them to anyone from the minute you go through the door you are welcomed and put at ease no words can describe the outstanding team

My wife had her right cataract removed and there just three words to describe the experience for both of us; Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. The left one to be done soon and no concerns at all.

I attended the Exeter SpaMedica clinic, following a referral by my Optician, for cataract removal for both eyes. On my first visit my eyes were examined in great detail and 3 days later my first eye was treated. Next morning, when I removed the protective patch I was surprised by the clarity of my vision and I only needed glasses to read normal print. I put a contact lens in my unoperated eye to balance up and noted that what I had considered adequate was well below my new standard. I look forward to having my remaining eye corrected in 5 to 6 weeks time. Two days after the operation I have no discomfort. All of the staff were very friendly and went out of their way to make the experience pleasurable. I was also very impressed at the cleanliness of the clinic and the regular cleaning during my stay.

From the initial assessment through to my second cataract being removed I have nothing but praise for the team at SpaMedica. All the staff are very friendly and clearly aware that patients are going to very nervous, especially before their first procedure. (I was going to mention some the team whose names I noted but understand that would mean this review would not be published.) Many thanks.

I was dealt with promptly from first phone call to having both eyes attended to. The staff made me feel at ease and were very attentive and the surgeon in both cases made me feel very confident with the procedure.

Everyone was so nice, I felt in very good hands. Everything was explained about what would happen from start to finish. Painless and quick. this procedure has changed my life as I now see such colour in things.

I had my first cataract operation in August and the second in October 2024. The whole process was very efficient, professional and informative from start to finish and every member of staff involved treated me with kindness, respect and reassurance. I now have 100% vision from an excellent surgeon and I feel like a new woman with much more confidence. I can truly recommend Spa Medica, Exeter and thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
