The welcome staff and nurses were excellent and I was looked after in a caring manner. On the day of my operation the theatre computer was not working and the nursing staff kept us informed and apologised. Coffee and biscuits were offered whilst waiting. When it came to the time of my operation, the surgeon only spoke to me to say he was doing my surgery in the pre-theatre room and from then on never spoke to me again to tell me what he was going to do. He did have conversations with the theatre staff whilst a blue cloth was thrown over my face and my eye literally yanked open. The cataract removal was a very painful procedure and I felt him scraping my eye. The irrigation water poured in my ear and soaked my hair, so much so that when I was put upright after the procedure my hair was dripping. No one asked how I was feeling and did not offer me a cloth to dry my hair. I was then taken straight in to see the discharge nurse and within minutes sent on my way. I realise this is just a routine and everyday operation for the surgeon who probably does it thousands of times a year but for me, in my seventies, it was the first time and I was left quite traumatised by the whole thing and felt like I was part of a production line. Unfortunately I have to return to have the other eye operated on over the next few months and now I know what to expect I am certainly very nervous about repeating the procedure.

Just had the 2nd procedure completed. Staff are warm and friendly. Every step of procedure is explained throughly. Would have no hesitation in recommending this place.

I cannot praise this clinic enough. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The surgeon that did the cataract operation was thoughtful and explained everything he was doing during the actual operation. Which helped me as I was nervous. Finally Everyone treat me as a person and not a number. Thank you.

Found staff very competent, made me feel relaxed. Hot drinks were very welcome! Everything was spotless, and things were explained clearly to me. No worries about having next cataract removed.

In April and June, 2023, I had both cataracts replaced by SpaMedica, Team Valley Trading Estate, Gateshead. At each stage of the process I was very well cared for with kindness and pleasant chat, which made me feel like a valued customer even though I was referred by the NHS. I left feeling happy. The building is spotlessly clean with sanitisers around every corner which everyone used, including the staff. The outcome has been marvellous. I will recommend anyone to accept treatment by this hospital.

Everything was really well organised and the staff were all lovely. Access was great to the premises and parking facilities admirable. The waiting times were amazing I only had one week to wait after the pre-assessment

Everyone at Spa Medica has been so kind, professional and helpful. I've just had my second cataract removal. The waiting times for both procedures were minimal. From start to finish I was treated so well by friendly, patient people who work hard to help you relax. I am so very grateful to all of them. I would very happily recommend Spa Medica. The staff are pleasant and professional, procedure is easy and painless,,, I arrived one hour early because of public transport schedules, but even then my total time at the clinic was one hour six minutes,,,, excellent!
