Friendly professional service. A short wait for 1st app and even quicker wait for surgery. My cataract operation was done within a week.

The referral procedure via the local optician, the swift response from SpaMedica was excellent. The assessment and ultimate operation was without worry due to the caring and knowledgeable nursing staff and surgeon for which I was eternally grateful. Thank you.

I was made to feel welcome and comfortable. Thank you to all the staff who looked after me, and particularly the Surgeon who made me feel relaxed. I will certainly be happy to attend again when I need my right eye cataract removed. Thank you also to the driver who picked me up from my home and returned me afterwards.

Review titled 5 Star Service

All the staff were friendly and informative. The surgeon put me so much at ease by talking me through the procedure. No pain, no pressure, no discomfort, fast recovery. He also reduced my astigmatism, giving me better sight than I ever had. A 14 minute procedure and it was like being reborn. With a quality free hot drinks and cool water machine plus a variety of free biscuits what’s not to like? More when I get my other eye done 😃 Can’t believe I’d been dreading the whole thing. I can fully recommend SpaMedica Southampton. Massive thanks to everyone 🙏

An excellent experience from start to finish. All the staff involved were friendly and made me feel at ease. I was particularly impressed with the availability of drinks and biscuits , especially when they were offered and brought to me while waiting for the operation. My eyesight is now so much better so a big thank you to the expert surgeon and to the whole team. I had a cataract operation on my other eye at the main hospital a couple of years ago and while this was fine and all went well, this dedicated unit was a lot less stressful and faster

Review titled Horrendous experience

This clinic obviously has no care for its clients apart from the money they charge the NHS for their services. After the pre op assessment I felt so awful I really did not want to go back for the operation, however rather than start the process again I was persuaded by my family to go ahead. I really wish I hadn’t , I was there for nearly 4 hours , most of which was just sitting in various chairs as part of a conveyor belt of people , nobody explaining why the wait was so long , ( having spoken to other patients it seems this is the norm here ) When I eventually got to the operating theatre the bed was still damp from the previous patient and the surgeon was rushed and rough , again I felt like a piece of meat not a person. I was then left waiting again to be discharged outside the nurses office while she finished a private phone conversation, no apologies just here are your drops and we will review in 4 weeks . I did not go back for my review my optometrist did that For two days after my surgery I could not open my eye it was very inflamed and bruised . I am still suffering from dry eye , and my local hospital eye department , who I was referred to post op thought two weeks of drops post surgery was not sufficient In all this experience was one of the worst I have ever had , even when I mentioned not being happy to SpaMedica I was just ignored. As I said from my experience here you are just a way of getting funds there is absolutely no patient care your just part of a conveyor belt of cataracts . I would avoid this clinic at all costs

Review titled Excellent practice, but minor improvements could be made
Rated 5 stars out of 5

I thought I had been given a feedback form of some sort after my cataract surgery at Sparmedica,, Stoneham Lane, Eastleiigh but, if I was, I cannot find it. So here is my feedback. My appointment was at 0850 on Friday 23rd August. There was quite a wait until I was called forward for the surgery, but that was to be expected. There were two young women behind the reception desk who ignored all the waiting patients. A man approached patients individually at their seats to request details. He missed at least one patient. He did not speak clearly, neither articulating his words nor facing the listener. Most of the patients, probably because they were slightly deaf like me, had to ask him to repeat himself at least once. Please can the reception staff note who arrives and then speak to them clearly. A large arrow was marked over the relevant eye in indelible ink. Four times I was subsequently asked which eye was to be operated upon and four times I said the one with the arrow over it. After the surgery I spent much time with a pumice stone, and then ball-point pen remover, in trying to remove the arrow. Please can a less prominent and less permanent arrow be used. The operation itself was excellent, with the surgeon introducing himself and explaining what was happening. After the operation, a nurse explained what was then to happen. It was quite complex and there was a lot to take in - quite difficult bearing in mind this was minutes after the operation. She was foreign - no issue with that - but her accent was sufficiently pronounced to make the understanding difficult. Once again, I constantly had to ask her to repeat what she had said. Please can your staff that engage with patients speak to them in a clearly understandable way. I was given a form in which to complete the days and times that I put in the eye drops. It took a while to understand that the rows were the days. It would be really helpful to have a spare column on the left with a heading of “Day”, so that these can then be completed by the patient. The form had 7 rows for the 7 days in each week for the 4 weeks the drops had to be taken, except for the second week which had 8 rows for 7 days in the week! Perhaps this lack of attention to detail explains why everyone had to keep asking which eye was to be operated upon! Please could the form be redesigned by someone who can count. Apart from these points above, the procedure was good.

Like most patient reviews, to say the least, there was some trepidation about the operation. Certainly endorse the positive comments about staff but more so about my consultant who talked me through every step of the operation whilst undertaking the surgery. Excellent provision and excellent service. Top marks NHS and Spamedica. Now expect and looking forward to my other eye operation. My thanks to all involved.
