  1. Review titled Does the left hand know what the right is doing?

Rated 2 stars out of 5

Had tests doen about a month ago. Tests results were ok. Get a call weeks later telling me that a doctor needs to call me about one of the results. No other information given by the person who called me. Informed them that the tests were ok but was told someone (who knows who) will call me the p.m of the next day. No-one called. This practice used to be really good. What a shame.

  2. Review titled Generally a great practise

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Rebecca Race - Posted on 06 January 2025

I visited the practise the other day and was given an appointment for the nurse practitioner for that morning. My appointment was running late 45 minutes or so, which was fine I appreciate not everyone fits in to a 10 minute window ….however at my appointment I realised why we were all waiting along time, the practitioner was a lovely lady but her conversations went on and on. I was pleased to get out as I was working from home and my boss had given me time out for this appointment. I had to ask the pharmacist how to take the prescribed ointment….he replied as advised by the practitioner….that information I never received. I was also concerned as my rash was looked at and touched and no washing of hands before and after and she let me out and went and called the next patient in. Hoping a word could be had to keep patients appointments on time, by cutting back on the general chitchat…as good as it is to chat !

  3. Review titled Inadequate appointment system

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 06 November 2024

Received a text message from Ambrose Avenue requesting that I book a routine appointment as blood test abnormal. Tried to call at 8.00am today was on hold for nearly an hour had to hang up to start work. (1hr) Called again at 11.50 was holding on until 1.00, I then hung up again as thought the surgery was closed. (1hr 10mins) Called at 14.30 was on hold for 25 mins, when they answered they said call back tomorrow at 8.00. My questions to the practice manager are: - Why does this surgery shut everyday between 12.30 and 1.30 for staff training? A key time when those that work can call. - If your blood test results are abnormal why does the surgery not contact you to book the appointment or send you an appointment. - What does this surgery deem as normal waiting times? Do they think over an hour is acceptable. To ensure they are providing an adequate service do they monitor call waiting times to see where improvement is needed - for example how many people had to wait over an hour for the month of October/November etc. Ambrose Avenue - you should and can do better. It's no wonder that you are accepting new patients and other surgeries are not.

  4. Review titled Great and very helpful staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

The pharmacist was extremely helpful and very kind. He assisted me and brought me a glass of water while I was in pain. He communicated with the receptionist to help me seeing my GP. I wish him all the success in his job. Thank you

  5. Review titled Getting an appointment

Rated 1 star out of 5

I am not sure what you need to do to get an appointment at this surgery. Call up at 8.00 - have done this 3 days running been number 28 to 30 in the queue, waiting for 30 mins, once answered, no appointments available. Turned up in person at 745, no appointments. The poor man in front of me had to explain his visit and we all heard he had a problem with his testicles, along with gaining his full name and date of birth. Looked online no appointments Tomorrow I will try again. Something needs to be done about this. There are never any per bookable appointments and you can’t get one by calling at 8. Can’t even get a walk-in. This has got to be one of the worse surgeries in Colchester.

  6. Review titled Excellent service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Mark Stott - Posted on 18 October 2024

After being advised by A&E on Monday evening to see my GP I called Tuesday morning and was given a same day appointment with no fuss. The GP was so helpful and thorough and informative and also booked me for a Physio appointment within just 3 days. The physio was equally friendly, helpful and informative and so within 3 days I am fully informed of my health problem and how I can resolve it quickly which has pleased me immensely. Well done ! An excellent service, contrary to popular belief. Thank you ! 🙏

  8. Review titled A big thank you

Rated 4 stars out of 5

Rang in at 8.00 to be told I was no 21 in the queue( impossible I thought ) hung on. No appointments left but was kindly offered a nurse practioners app after explaining how worried my husband was about a changed mole. She was very efficient, kind , thorough, and after looking at several other moles said she would forward an appointment at the hospital. This , to our amazement and worry came very quickly. A Sunday appointment 2 days later! Just came back ,how lovely to have clear roads and an empty Primary care trust Very quickly he was told after the examination no further treatment would be needed. BIg relief! So we both wanted to express our very sincere thanks to your team from a very caring warm receptionist, to the nurse practioner and to the efficiency of staff who dealt with it from there. How great to be able to praise you at your practice. Please pass on our thanks to all who dealt with my husband. We would really like them to know that their professionalism and kind humanity made such a difference to us. 🙂

  9. Review titled Meeting The urgent needs of the patient

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Roland Buss - Posted on 13 May 2024

A late afternoon appointment with HCA when I needed urgent treatment for a heart condition, resulted in her going well beyond the normal treatment, making sure that I had a ECG and a follow up appointment with a Doctor and getting a prescription. She is a credit to the Practice. I have personally thanked her for her professionalism.

  10. Review titled Avoid at all costs! Completely unfit for purpose

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Karlie baker - Posted on 21 May 2024

Unable to obtain an appointment after presenting cancer symptoms, explained all of this to receptionist even left feedback to be sent a rather rude message accusing me of not attending a blood test appointment for an issue relating to my foot and rheumatology!!! So the admin hasn’t even read my notes correctly!! Also accused of not attending A and E or a 111 emergency GP appointment at the hospital who actually administers me anti biotics all of which I had proof ,also told to get a follow up GP appointment to have my ear checked again unable to obtain said appointment can’t get past receptionists, they deem who’s an “emergency”and who’s not an “emergency” I am apparently not deemed an emergency even though I’m having nearly all the symptoms of having cancer whats even more shocking is this lymph node was examined by a dr at this surgery over 2 years ago and was told it’s absolutely fine and normal and my bloods were ok when in fact this should have been investigated a referred to a specialist after a couple of weeks of it not going!!! ( my own relative had cancer and had bloods that were perfect he was diagnosed from biopsies and scans) All they seem to care about is a blood test I haven’t had done regarding my foot, when cancer cannot be diagnosed from a blood test the NHS have adverts about cancer urging people to seek advice from a GP but this surgery clearly hasn’t got the memo absolutely disgraceful place! I’m trying not take it personal as it appears your failing a lot of your patients at present! PALs informed and in the process of changing Surgeries who have already said it’s urgent and will give me an appointment as soon as my notes are passed over, if your happy to wait on hold over an hour sometimes 2 to then be told “no appointments” then sign up to this surgery if you want you medical issues dealt with and want to speak to a GP not admin then I would go elsewhere
