Review titled Outstanding care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Michael Fowle - Posted on 03 September 2023
My wife was ill, in distress. We called surgery at 8am. Duty doctor called back and summoned ambulance. Paramedics were excellent, spoke to GP. GP prescribed and arranged blood tests. Wife did blood tests and saw duty docotor next day. Superb care. Now recovering.

Review titled Great service
Rated 5 stars out of 5

I have been registered with the Amwell Practice for several years. The reception staff are friendly and helpful. Always easy to see or speak to a GP if you need to for advice or treatment, I don't feel rushed and leave feeling like I have been listened to. Very happy that myself and my family are registered there.

Review titled Did not hold appointment; no contact
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 23 June 2023
Today I had an appointment with a GP to call and they did not complete the call before the precinct closed this evening for the weekend. I contacted them multiple times and they said they would call but did not follow through. Further, when I tried to contact them via email since the telephone line was closed, I received an automatic email response saying that emails were not being checked and I should file an eConsult, but the eConsult service is also closed for them! So there is no way to contact. This is unacceptable.

Dear patient, I am so sorry to hear this, it sounds like a really frustrating experience. I have just been through the entire appointments book for June 23rd and can't see a missed call. I would really like to speak to your regarding your experience, and also to help address the issue you were originally requesting the call back for. Please call the surgery today asking to speak to me regarding your complaint and I will call you back, or you can request another day for a call back if that suits you better. With Kind Regards, Dr Rose MacDonald GP Partner Amwell Group Practice

Review titled Great Practice
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Sally C - Posted on 01 June 2023
I have been a patient at this practice for c. 40 years. Despite the doom and gloom around about our struggling NHS, you would not know it if you are a patient with the Amwell Group Practice! In Nairoji Street standards have been maintained and the ethos of offering patients a ‘family doctor’ is still in place... That said, if there is an emergency you can have quick access to any doctor, and I have always been treated by whoever I have seen with concern and expertise. The receptionists are helpful and informed – in fact more than that: the whole Practice goes the extra mile in being proactively helpful and efficient. I could not ask for more. Sally

Dear Sally, Wow - thank you so much for taking the time to give us such positive feedback. This means such a lot to the whole team here at Amwell. We try our best to maintain a "usual doctor" system to ensure continuity of care and to give patients and clinicians the opportunity to build meaningful relationships, and I am so pleased to hear that this has been your experience. I hope we can continue to provide you with excellent care. With kind regards, Dr Rose MacDonald GP Partner Amwell Group Practice

Review titled Impossible to get an appointment.
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 30 April 2023
No appointments available online for next 18 weeks. Impossible to get through on the phone to get an appointment. No follow up with results of hospital tests. This surgery used to be good some years ago. What has happened to it? I feel I have no access to medical care except for my online repeat prescriptions. Dreadful and disheartening.

Dear Patient, Thank you so much for taking time to leave us this feedback. I am so sorry to hear that you have found it so difficult to get through and to make an appointment. I am especially sorry to hear that you were left in the position of not being able to find out about test results and I can imagine that this must have felt worrying and caused you to feel stressed. We have taken on board your feedback, and we are now in the process of reviewing the ways in which we communicate the results of tests that we have ordered for our patients. We aim to be proactive in sending out messages to let you know that we have seen results and what they show, and arranging follow up to discuss these in more detail when necessary. Where a test has been arranged by a hospital doctor then it is their responsibility to communicate the results to you. However, we will always take the time to help you access hospital ordered results where we can. We only have smear test appointments available to book online at present and have less than a weeks wait time for smear test appointments at the current time. I would be delighted to meet in person to find out more about your experiences and what we can learn from them. It would also be good to talk about what we can do to meet your medical needs at this time. We do strive to provide excellent clinical care and we do understand that there are challenges with access. We are constantly trying to find ways of making this easier for our patients. With kind regards, Dr Rose MacDonald GP Partner

Review titled Don't Bother Trying to get an Appointment
Rated 1 star out of 5

The only way to book an appointment is to call exactly at 8am and continue calling over and over when you get a busy signal until the call connects. If you are lucky enough to get through while they still have available appointments that day, they will assign you a time when the GP will call you - although with a 1 hour window on either side. If the GP calls you at some point in your 2 hour window and you miss it (eg. if you are in the toilet) then you have missed your appointment for that day and will have to restart the process over the following day and hope to get through. It is ridiculous that in 2023 this is the system that they are employing to make appointments. Furthermore, if they insist on only doing phone appointments, they should at least give the patient more than one attempt to answer the call in their nebulous 2 hour window.

Dear Patient, Thank you very much for taking the time to give us this feedback. I am so sorry that you have been finding it so hard to get through on the phone to arrange the appointments you want. In common with all NHS GP practices in England demand for primary care services outstrips supply and we are constantly trying to find ways to make it easier for you to access us and safely meet the needs of our patients. We have taken on board your feedback and we are undertaking a thorough review of our access systems over the next few months to make it easier for everyone to get a timely appointment with the right member of our team. I am also sorry that you were only called once when you had a telephone appointment arranged as it is our policy to call three times. Additionally, we are very keen on seeing our patients face to face in the surgery and are very happy for anyone to come to the surgery for an appointment rather than undertake this on the telephone. All of our patients can choose which type of appointment works best for them. I would be delighted to meet with you to hear more about what you have been experiencing and what we can learn and change. With kind regards, Dr Rose MacDonald GP Partner

Review titled Good Luck Getting Simple Things done
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 13 December 2022
I have been with the practice since it opened or close to (7 years roughly). It swiftly deteriorated through the years. I used to rate it highly however since before and obviously through covid, it takes about 3-5 times of contacting reception to get simple things done like appointments for yourself or your babies. Good luck if you need a call back about an issue. Nurses don't bother, there is never follow-up, the appointments are often pointless, and the reception makes you call back if you miss their morning booking windows. If you have a serious issue, do not go here. Expect delays and expect to have to contact them multiple times for simple tasks. Maybe they are overwhelmed however, there is more than that in this case. It seems there is no oversight.
