Rang on the day for a telephone appointment, but was referred for a face to face consultation. The doctor, who I had not met before, was polite and interested and took the time to read previous notes. The comprehensive attention to assess my condition, resulting in new prescribed medication and stopping medication I already take which may contradict my condition. My meeting was followed up with a phone message summarising our meeting and the outcome. This was a first for me at this practice and was valuable, having details of our consultation, prescribed medication and timescale for a follow up appointment.

It’s very difficult to get gps to make referrals and they will only do so after a lot of phone calls and nagging!

The staff are always attentive and the caring receptionists always help. The doctors liaten and make you feel safe and comfortable. Would highly recommend this surgery.

Attended for diabetic review. Seen on time. Nurse was extremely thorough and there was no sense of being rushed. Clear advice and follow up appointment booked then and there.

Despite government assurances this practice are still very reluctant to offer face to face appointments and it takes a genius to manage to get a referral to an appropriate Consultant. They will dispense medication, send nurses to collect blood samples but will rarely actually see a patient and highly unlikely to offer a home visit for frail, vulnerable and sick patients. I have encountered tremendous difficulty in communicating with the practice on all levels and they are often hostile and defensive in their responses to reasonable and legitimate requests.

Dear Anonymous, Thank you for taking the time to feedback, and I am sorry you are not satisfied with our service. To confirm, we have been providing face to face appointments as standard since September 2022, and in June 2023 our Doctors provided over 2,000 face to face appointments. We also provide home visits to housebound patients where clinically appropriate. We would always encourage our patients to speak to our management team prior to writing a review so that we can look into and work to resolve any concerns or issues. I don’t normally write bad reviews but honestly I’ve had enough of this GP. I am a type one diabetic and I am being prescribed dexcom one. Now I need the transmitters to work with the sensors prescribed every 3 months. I am literally begging my GP to prescribe them and she keeps saying they are prescribed by the pharmacy and not her. Which is not true as they have been prescribed to me previously by the same practice. The stress this causes me is getting worse. This GP has no idea what she is doing. Absolutely ridiculous

Suffering with an ongoing health issues that was suspected to have underlying reasons, Avonside have not given up on me and have, where appropriate, referred me for specialist advice. Their understanding and dogged determination to find the root cause of my health condition has been so reassuring. I feel that, despite the pressures the NHS are facing, I still matter. Thank you all.

My son has been with this practice for a number of years. The care has been nothing short of incompetent and as a result we have had to pay privately for an appointment with a specialist. Both myself and my son work for the NHS, so we understand the situation with budget constraints and lack of funding, however this treatment has been borderline abusive. The GPs he has seen have all dismissed him despite a childhood diagnosis of his condition. They refuse to make the relevant referral as, 'everyone thinks they have this condition and the majority of referrals are turned down.' Now when he requires a letter to take to the specialist, they are again being obstructive. We are not in a position to be paying for on going private care, but have had to fund the initial appointment and at least the next few follow up appointments because of the refusal of the GPs to actually do their job. This is so frustrating and it is only because my son has a supportive family that he is still alive. How many other young people do not survive because of incompetent GPs? I wouldn't recommend this surgery to anyone.
