  1. Review titled Really good experience as a patient

    by castorye37 - Posted on 10 July 2023

I had a gynae problem and was examined by a GP after I made an online appointment 2 day prior. The doctor made me feel very comfortable and examined me thoroughly and referred me to a gynae clinic at Homerton Hospital. I had an appointment there within 2 days of the referral.

  2. Review titled Difficulty in booking correct appointment

    by tangomr94 - Posted on 12 June 2023

It was extremely difficult to figure out how to book the appointment i wanted on your new online system. All i wanted to do is speak to someone about changing my contraceptive pill, which is surely an extremely basic and common request. After many attempts i eventually received a pop up message that pointed in the right direction and i found i had to book an appointment for a problem with my genitals, which isn't exactly how i would describe it.... I selected the appointment type for a new medication and explained in the text box that i need a new pill due to extremely irregular bleeding. When i arrived at the appointment the nurse (who i am not complaining about) took my weight and blood pressure and quickly started prescribing my old pill. I explained that i wanted a new pill or to discuss options, upon which they let me know that they couldn't do that here and in fact i'd have to make a different appointment at an entirely different center i'd never heard of. How can a GP have no provision at all for the discussion of female reproductive health? And even if you really can't, why is it possible to make a booking? It was bad enough that it was hidden away under genital problems but then it turns out it was a giant waste of mine and that nurse's time. I could have got my same old pill prescribed from home. I had to miss my last cervical screening because my period occurred randomly on the day and i was instructed to only make a booking when i know i'm not on my period....even if i'm able to get a new appointment at this mysterious clinic with settling in time for the new contraceptive i may not be able to do this for many months, which worries me a lot. If everything has to be online now fair enough, but could you please just have a crystal clear info box or page for how to access and discuss contraceptive healthcare as it is really the only thing me and many people really require on a semi regular basis.

  3. Review titled Not seeing GP face to face

    by soilzz66 - Posted on 03 July 2023

I have pain everywhere but now that the service is for a form to be completed, the GP can make the decision of not seeing you and just sending you medication. I was prescribed a medication that I can't take due to bad side effects, which then meant I had to complete the form again just to say this, then wait again.

  5. Review titled Help with my online account

    by Anon23 - Posted on 05 June 2023

I recently visited the Practice as I was having issues with my Patient Access account. I was not able to book any appointments. A manager rang me back, and explained that the surgery did not have any appointments available online because of their recent change to the appointment system. They explained that we had to complete the online form, that if we had any new health problems, and we selected the new health problem tile, the Doctor would look at that and offer us the appropriate appointment. They explained that we no longer had to ring in the morning at 8:00 am. They also told me that I should use the NHS App instead of Patient Access. I think the new system needs to be given time to work.

  6. Review titled Wound check and pain medication

    by defendercd56 - Posted on 09 June 2023

I was discharged on Saturday following major surgery on my back. I register with the surgery the week before. Two points: Wound check The actual wound check was exceptional and professional however I had to challenge reception in order to get the appointment. I understand that my registration was not process yet but the options that I was given were not acceptable. The main solution was for me to go to A&E for the wound check. This was a very upsetting recommendation. It would mean that I would have to travel more than 30 min and sit for hours, all of which were prohibited by my condition. It was only when I stood my ground that an appointment was made available. This was not an accident nor an emergency so why A&E was an option was unacceptable Finally, I called in to see the duty doctor for a pain medication prescription. In the end this was approved but necessitated me having to make the trip to the surgery twice in a lot of pain. If reception has taken more time to listen to what I was asking they would have been able to help sooner. All staff were polite and professional throughout.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent experience. We apologize for any inconvenience caused during the appointment scheduling process. As a new patient, your registration was pending, which limited our ability to offer an appointment at our practice. Despite these limitations, reception staff diligently followed our policy of suggesting the A&E department for a wound check. However, we understand the challenges and discomfort associated with this recommendation, and we apologize for any distress caused. Furthermore, we sincerely apologize for the additional visit you had to make in order to obtain your pain medication. We understand the importance of effective pain management, especially during your recovery period. We want to emphasize that our reception staff is dedicated to providing excellent care and ensuring your needs are addressed. However, in this instance, it appears there may have been a miscommunication or a lack of clarity during your initial interaction. We understand that it could have led to a delay in receiving the appropriate assistance. We appreciate your understanding and feedback as it helps us improve our services. We remain committed to providing excellent care and ensuring that our patients' needs are met promptly and effectively.

Poor communication. I will be looking for a new GP surgery. I would not recommend this GP surgery. One of the worst surgeries I have ever been registered with.

  8. Review titled Barton GP practice is great, but…

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 06 April 2023

Barton’s GP practice is great! However its booking system has recently changed, and looks like it has been outsourced to a third party platform. Patients must now complete a request form - either online or via a phone call - for a GP call back, with no choice over the call appt time or GP. Barton insist this is to enhance patient access, and that it is in line with other GP practices. But this new booking system can only fragment continuity of care, and allow more potential red flags to get lost in the rigid form-filling. I have never known such cognitive dissonance at watching vital access to my local primary care being ‘remoted’ and de-personalised, while being told it’s for my benefit. Please, Barton, go back to your previous booking system. It may have had its flaws but it kept you in touch with the community you serve!

Thank you for taking your time to leave a comment. All feedback is much appreciated. We are constantly updating and improving the new booking system to accommodate as many patients as possible. All requests, whether filled out online or by calling the practice, are being triaged by a GP at the practice and appointments are being booked as necessary. Regarding the continuity of care, if a patient wants to be seen by a specific GP, and the medical concern is not urgent, they will be pre-booked in advance if appropriate. We have found that the new booking system is successfully accommodating the majority of patients, however there is no perfect system and we will keep taking feedback and improve the system continuously.

  9. Review titled Making appointment with call centre

by Patsyxxx - Posted on 10 April 2023

I found call center staff very helpful but unfotunately they couldn't put me through to who I wished to speak to. Secondly if you received a miss call from Barton House its unable to trace from whom its from. The waiting time can extremely long by phone if not contacting via online.

Thank you for taking your time to leave a comment. All feedback is much appreciated. We are constantly updating and improving the new booking system to accommodate as many patients as possible. Although, there is no perfect system, nor one that can satisfy every patient's wish but we've already seen a tremendous improvement at greatly reducing the waiting time to get an appointment, especially if it's urgent, compared to the old system, when you had to call at 8AM and then potentially wait over an hour on the line just to be told all appointment of the day are now gone. We always recommend patients who are able to fill out the form, to do just that, rather than call, so that those who are unable to fill out the forms themselves, can call and get help that they need.
