  1. Review titled Fantastic service

    by pyxisnf79 - Posted on 03 March 2023

I am working 80 miles from home for 5 days and forgot my pills. I called the doctors and they have arranged for me to collect them in the morning from a local chemist. This is really fantastic as I would have had to go home and this would have been really bad for me workwise. Many thanks to everyone for helping me out.

  2. Review titled Phone appointments only. No time to discuss symptoms.

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 20 December 2022

I have struggled to see a GP at this practice despite being told to as a matter of urgency by NHS 111. I had a phone consultation today that lasted less than 2 minutes. I had prepared a list of symptoms I wanted to discuss but was abruptly cut off after mentioning only two. The doctor asked no questions, gave no advice and the whole thing felt somewhat disrespectful. I've been a patient at this practice for 30 years and today it is nothing like the GP care I used to get. The time allotted to patients is inadequate for any doctor to get a comprehensive idea of their illness and it's impossible to see a GP in person without this 2 min triage where no interest is shown in your condition. The whole thing feels impersonal and uncaring.

Hi, Thanks for your comment, I'm really sorry your experience was disappointing; I'm afraid it's really difficult to respond because you haven't given your name so we can't see any details about who you spoke to or what happened. Please contact us directly to discuss because we'd like to make things better. Just to clarify, we don't only do phone appointments in that we bring patients in for face to face appointments where the GP doing the phone appointment feels this is needed. It's possible you were booked in with the Emergency (Duty) Doctor if it was an urgent call, in which case they would only have been able to deal with the urgent problem or decide if it was appropriate for it to wait for a routine slot. Otherwise our slots are at least 10 minutes long which is pretty standard across the UK. We are about to make a change to our appointment system which we think will make access to our services easier and more efficient as well as reducing the need to wait on the phone to get through to us; we will be texting all patients shortly and also putting information on our website about this. Best Wishes Dr Helen Drew GP Partner, Barton House Group Practice

  3. Review titled High value contact

    by rainse49 - Posted on 01 December 2022

Although the practice is facing all the challenges of contemporary circumstances, not only did the doctor ring with all the information I needed following an emergency hospital admission, but the practice receptionist chased the hospital discharge summary which the hospital had failed to forward to them, so that the doctor had all the admission and prescription info to hand when he did so. Helpful, cheerful and efficient contact going the extra mile.

  4. Review titled Reassured that I am in good hands

    by statusxz57 - Posted on 23 August 2023

The doctor prescribed a medication for me and asked me to collect at the opposite pharmacy. I went there only to be told that they ran out of stock but I could collect it at Boots in Dalston. I called the surgery and informed them that I was told to go to Boots. The staff at the surgery could tell through my voice that I was weak and short of breath and offered for one of their staff could go and collect it for me. I said a big thank you to her and assured her that i would take a cab to go and collect. She monitored me from my house to Dalston and back to my house by calling me randomly on the phone. Honestly she gave me a moral support and advised me to call the ambulance if anything and go to Emergency. Not many surgeries could go out of their ways to support a patient like that. The staff at my surgery are well trained always polite caring and attentive There is an equal opportunity system there at Barton House surgery. I am proud of them and have the assurance that I am in good hands. God bless them.
