Review titled No follow up at all
Rated 1 star out of 5
by It's my life - Posted on 12 October 2024
I was discharged from hospital several weeks ago, put back in the hands of this medical centre for onward care and referral to different appropriate hospital, not heard a thing, no follow up at all.

Review titled No respect whatsoever

The askmyGP response left my relative in severe distress, had to ring to try and sort out to be constantly interrupted by the receptionist who was incorrect and did not attempt to sort the issue.

Review titled Always different locum
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Ginger T - Posted on 03 September 2024
After waiting four weeks for an urgent problem (sent on askmygp), I replied to cancel the request as the stress was causing me severe anxiety waiting. I then received a phone call to book an appointment with a locum. I refused as never had any luck with locums, I have a serious illness that need continuity. I was then told the surgery were unhappy with the locums had been using and were now using a much better company. So I agreed to the phone call. It was worse than ever. The conversation was all one sided from myself, complete silence at the other end, twice I had to ask if anyone was still on the line. Complete waste of time. I agree with others, this surgery needs closing permanently and a new one set up in a traditional manner like still exist in majority of the UK. It is all very well saying you can learn from mistakes but you don't, they continue and get worse. A dangerous '(non) medical centre'.

Dear Patient I am sorry to hear of your recent experience with our surgery. Whilst I can understand your frustrations, closing a surgery is never an option, as this will only put additional pressure on the other services within our community. It is important we understand what went wrong and put the necessary steps in place to ensure this doesn't happen in the future. With this is mind, I would like to investigate your concerns and would ask that you send an email to somicb.enquiries-burnhammc@nhs.net with your details. Many thanks Joanna Everett Quality & Complaints Manager

Dear Patient I am sorry you feel the surgery have let you down with regards to your UTI. Unfortunately, I am unable to investigate this any further, so if you would like to write to me at somicb.enquiries-burnhammm@nhs.net, I will be able to see what went wrong. Closing a surgery is never a good option, as you have to think where all our patients would go, when all other services, are also under immense pressure. The best option is to investigate what went wrong, apologise and learn from it, so it doesn't happen again. Kind regards Joanna Everett Quality & Complaints Manager

Review titled Still a shocking practice
Rated 1 star out of 5

This is one awful surgery Sadly today this surgery continues to be awful. I can spent forever as number one in the queue when I try to call for an appointment. Eventually I attended in person while my phone was still on hold. Using the ask my gp, which only opens for a very short period of time each day is equally painful. While the NHS is in melt down Burnham medical centre stands out as one of the very worst. It may be time to consider closing this surgery and send patients to an alternative centre. It couldn't possibly be any worse. Date of experience: 18 June 2024

Dear Patient Thank you for your feedback, I am sorry you have not had a positive experience with the Burnham & Berrow Medical Centre. To help us improve it would be useful to be able to properly investigate your concerns. If you would like me to do this, please write to us at somicb.enquiries-burnhammc@nhs.net. Closing a surgery is never the answer, as this only puts extra demands on other services, who themselves are struggling. Therefore, I would ask that you help us to improve by providing me with more information. Kind Regards Joanna Everett Quality & Complaints Manager

Review titled Diagnosis by text
by Anonymous - Posted on 03 September 2024
I have a rare congenital neurological disease, with worsening progression of symptoms I contacted the rrquesting a GP home visit. They don't do them for anyone anymore, Instead I was text a link to a leaflet to wear gloves (I am housebound and it was hot weather). Anything to avoid contact with a patient. You cannot be diagnosed via texting a leaflet. How do they get away with it?

Review titled Much improved on past experiences
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Anon - Posted on 15 May 2024
This centre is doing really well under difficult circumstances. I've had my share of problems in the past, hard to make appointments etc but recently I have been delighted with the service. I used the AskMyGP service to raise a concern, that did take a while to get a response to (fine there, understand my condition was not a priority). The response was excellent, got a face-to-face appointment in Berrow at a time that worked for me (I have a very inflexible job when it comes to hours and taking phone calls). Dr was lovely, really understanding and patient, ordered bloods to be taken and a referral for a minor surgical procedure. Bloods taken the following week by the excellent phlebotomist in Burnham, results came back quickly via the NHS app. While this was ongoing, had another appointment for the surgical pre-op, again at a suitable time. One of my bloods came back as borderline, so another blood draw appointment made. Really pleased with the service I've had as part of this recent issue. I don't work for the NHS, but another public sector industry and the pressures being faced are unreal, so I think that the experience I have had recently has been exceptional - thank you!

Review titled Shocking practice
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Michael Lacey - Posted on 01 July 2024
Following my recent review about the practice and its poor diagnosis, I suffered a major heath problem which resulted with myself ending up in A&E and subsequent cardiology surgery. After five days in hospital I am still totally unable to get a face to face gp appointment. This surgery seems to serve no use whatsoever.

Review titled Profit over patient care
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 12 October 2024
My elderly relative came out of hospital after sepsis, he was very confused. He is on 13 different meds a day, some once, some twice a day. I asked the pharmacy for dosette packages. They were extremely helpful and although takes them a lot of time, happily agreed but needed a weekly prescription, can't do four weeks at a time as not all the drugs are suitable out of blister packs after 14 days. GPs refused. Said it is too time consuming to sign a prescription once a week instead of once every four weeks. How long does it takes to electronically sign a repeat prescription??? More likely down to cost. The pharmacy also tried for me but no, GPs said no. However, if he were a drug addict he could have them weekly. Zero patient care leaving an 87 year old patient unsafe taking their meds in a state of confusion.
