Review titled Comfortable, relaxed and reassuring
Rated 5 stars out of 5

I saw a male doctor today regarding a raised mole that I was slightly concerned about. The mole is at the top of my inner thigh. Normally I’d prefer to see a female doctor for a such an intimate area, but I felt very comfortable with him. As ever, he was warm and relaxed, we had a little chat/laugh. Once he’d looked at and measured the mole, he was quick to reassure me that it looked benign. But also suggested taking a photo now and checking it in 2-3 months to see if it had grown or changed. The anppo was over very quickly and I came away feeling relaxed and reassured. Thank you.

I visited this practice for a review, the doctor was caring and compassionate, I consistently felt heard and understood. The doctor took time to listen and explain things clearly. I feel like I have a say in my health care decisions.

Review titled Baffling
Rated 2 stars out of 5

I've been shocked that it has taken over a year to diagnose my 63 year old father with two vertebral fractures, despite him having a traumatic injury from which the fractures have stemmed. I fear this mishandling is a result of total lack of any continuity of care, over the course of 14 months he has been seen by different GPs and had to re-explain everything from the beginning only for them to recommend he take the same action that the previous GP recommended. I find it baffling that this is the process. Now that he has been diagnosed the communication has been minimal and we don't know how to speak to a doctor about next steps, nor whether we will get a doctor who has seen him, or yet another new one who will again be starting from scratch... We persevere nonetheless.

Review titled Out of area
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Sukhi Ghattaora - Posted on 18 May 2024
We have been patients at valley surgery for over 30 years and were classed as out of area when we registered, but they still took us on. We received an officious letter a couple of weeks ago removing us from the practice list for being out of area which saddens us. We have had excellent care up until a couple of years ago when things seem to have changed. There seems to be little continuity of care and lack of a personal touch and empathy. I understand the challenges of working in the NHS (as a nhs manager myself) but do not understand the marked change. I am happy to come in and talk to the partners to see how things might be improved.

We are so sorry that our recent list maintenance has meant that you have had to register with a practice closer to where you live and that this has been upsetting for you. Unfortunately the pressures on general practice grow greater each year and with increasing numbers of patients now living within our area we are unable to continue caring for patients who do not live within our practice boundary area. With many community services now being area based this can also cause problems for patients if they need referring to these services.

Review titled Awful practice

This is without a doubt the worst practice I have ever been registered with. They have a ridiculous policy of refusing to book non urgent appointments 1-2 weeks in advance and therefore making you ring at 8am every day - they then would only let me book a telephone appointment for a rash, which was a 30 second call and resulted in the doctor obviously saying “oh I can’t assess this over the phone, can you come in next week”… therefore nothing but a waste of everyone’s time! Also rather concerningly I was not assessed for any red flag symptoms/concurrent symptoms at all over the phone other than how long I had had it and what I had already tried, so the doctor just assumed it was safe to wait another week. I was told they don’t have any capacity to do travel vaccines (despite me knowing exactly which ones I need) without having a full 8 weeks notice. I would think 4 weeks was plenty of time but apparently not. Even the simple task of reviewing the contraceptive pill when you join the practice and have been on it before is outdated and requires a paper form that then has to be emailed or posted back to the practice rather than just a simple review with a nurse! And if you need any bloods doing they will only do these in the morning, so if you work a full time job as I do it becomes impossible and requires me to take leave from work. I wish I had never transferred when I moved house and am looking to move to a different practice ASAP (I will do my research this time!)

We are so sorry to hear that you are not happy with the service that we are able to provide to you. We encourage patients to talk to us personally to discuss any issues so that they can be resolved, as it is not possible to provide a full explanation on this forum without having full details. Unfortunately it is only possible for us to take blood tests in the mornings as the samples are collected from us at lunchtime each day by the hospital for processing, so this is out of our control. However we do offer some Saturday phlebotomy appointments if these would be convenient for you.
