  1. Review titled Very unprofessional

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 05 June 2023

I went for an appointment today at my GP practice The appointment was supposed to be with a nurse however it turned out to be a male doctor. Instead of attending to the reason for which i was there even though he knew he asked me in a very unprofessional manner a couple times he had a very ridiculous look on his face and he made patronizing remarks. I was disgusted by his mannerisms and his approach to my situation.

Dear Anonymous Thank you for your review, I am disappointed to read that you were not given the service we strive to give. This will be discussed with reception to ensure our patients are informed who they will be seeing when booking the appointment and if this changes to make sure patients are informed before hand. The Family Doctors doesn't have permanent male GPs therefore the GP you had this encounter with was a locum and without more detail I wouldn't be able to see who this was. If you want to contact me direct I will be happy to look at his further. Jacqui Coleman Practice Manager

  2. Review titled Poor standard of medicine

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Dr Richard C Saumarez - Posted on 13 January 2024

As a retired physician, I would expect a minimum standard of care. There has been a rapid turnover of medical staff at the surgery. The last doctor I saw was competent and thorough (i.e.: knew how to examine a patient). She has subsequently left. I developed type II diabetes discovered on a routine blood test. Unfortunately the surgery did not inform me of this. I contracted oral candidiasis with dysphagia and was seen by an "advanced medical practitioner" who failed to notice diabetes, told me I had a mass in my neck and that he thought I had cancer. (The mass was my arytenoid cartilage). I was referred to the local hospital where I was immediately diagnosed by an ENT surgeon. Having been referred on "cancer pathway", I had numerous other tests which were normal. I have not been seen by a doctor about my diabetes, the last practitioner was a pharmacist. I have developed frontal sinusitis and was unable to see a doctor for 3 weeks. Finally, I saw a GP privately and I was relieved to speak to someone who knew what they were doing. The surgery has an increasingly poor reputation and the dependence on non-medical support staff and a succession of locums will inevitably lead to a decline in medical care for the community.

  3. Review titled Not suitable for kids/babies

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 15 April 2023

I took my toddler to a doctor here three times. And this thing happened the twice. My son starts crying with fear and reason is.. the doctor didn’t great him, didn’t say hello, didn’t say what he was going to do. Think if this happens to you, some one comes and touches you and you don’t know what’s happening and what will his next step be. Please take the time to consider kids as person too. Take the time to say hello, how are you today? Look him in the face and say I’m going to take you temperature now from your ear it’ll only take a second. If you are not doing that, at least give me a second to tell my kid myself that what is this doctor going to do next.

Dear Anonymous Thank you for your feedback on your recent visit at The Family Doctors. I am disappointment to read that you hadn't received an acceptable service. Unfortunately our appointments for bloods and BP appointments are booked in 10 minute slots and therefore if you were 6 minutes late the 4 minutes remaining wouldn't have been enough to be able to completed the procedure needed. I understand your frustration if having to wait 3 minutes to inform the receptionist you were there however we do have a booking in screen to enable you to check in without speaking to the receptionist. I hope you will find that this improves your next visit. many Thanks Jacqui Coleman The Family Doctors

  6. Review titled Great docs, horrible front staff

Rated 4 stars out of 5

The calling in process to get an appointment is appalling. It takes hours and hours. Once in, the GP’s are excellent and compassionate but the front end process is horrible

Dear Anonymous Thank you for leaving a review, I was disappointed to read that you feel our front end process is horrible. We offer same day appointments and do recognise that sometimes there can be a wait to get through to the receptionist however we have recently increased the amount of same day appointments available to enable patients to book. We also offer future appointments which you can also book online. Alternatively we offer online consultations via Patchs which is available through our website www.austhorpeviewsurgery@nhs.net We are constantly looking at ways to improve patient appointment accessibility and hope moving forward you will a difference and receive better front end processes. If you would like to discuss this any further please contact the surgery on 0113 2602262 Jacqui Coleman Practice Manager The Family Doctors

  7. Review titled A very good surgery

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 04 May 2023

We lost a very old relative recently. This surgery cared for them and their spouse impeccably for decades and in the end the senior partner was very caring and efficient and he visited late in the evening when he did not have to. The district nurses also were excellent people, experienced and interested and gave good advice and care. Here they are managing to continue to do a good job, I think because they are dedicated people. I hope the NHS improves the support for the front line workers, because we cannot rely on people overworking for ever. Thank you.

  8. Review titled Great care given

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 09 April 2023

Over the course of two months I had three appointments with different GP’s at the practice. I was impressed by the time taken to understand and investigate my symptoms, the fact that you can usually get an appointment on the day you need it. I felt that all my worries and physical ailments were taken seriously and feel that this led to a much speedier recovery than I had expected.

  9. Review titled What's The Point

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 08 February 2023

Fobbed off by the receptionist... told I need to go through a different website (that was closed when I called to make an appointment). Also told I should contact a pharmacist, then if there's nothing they can do ... I ""might"" be able to book an appointment. It seems I can't get a doctors appointment (or even a nurse appointment) for love nor money. There is literally no point in being registered with my surgery.

Dear Anonymous I am sorry to read that you have had a bad experience with our surgery. Patients should be offered telephone and face to face same day appointments if you call at 8am Alternatively we also offer future appointments. You can also book online through our website www.austhorpeviewsurgery.nhs.uk However as with options you should never feel fobbed off. This will be discussed with our reception team. 10. Review titled Brilliant Practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Sarah Leggett - Posted on 03 February 2023

I feel that all members of the practice team know their patients and want to do their best for them. Receptionists are very friendly and helpful and the doctors are amazing. Phone and face to face appointments are always available and, because of mobility issues, my 93 year old father has had three home visits in the past year! Referrals to hospital have been prompt and efficient. An outstanding, caring practice, which I cannot rate highly enough.
