A previous hospital examination was extremely painful and I was worried to have the same examination again. I discussed this with the nurse and she put me at ease at talked me through the process. I had no pain and was put very much at ease.

Dear patient, I am sorry that you have felt that you have received a bad service from Fir Park Medical Centre. I do hope that you have been able to speak to the secretary of your kidney specialist for further information on the medication prescribed by them, or a clinician or clinical pharmacist here at Fir Park Medical Centre. We do offer pre-bookable appointments here at Fir Park Medical Centre both over the telephone and via the NHS App, and we also have the pre-bookable GP Extra service available at evenings or weekends. 3. Review titled Poor

Rated 1 star out of 5

As a cancer patient I rang to make an urgent request for help. I was shouted at by the staff on the reception and told to call at 8am the following morning or to attend the 'walk in or A&E' The 'on call' Dr refused to help, because she had had a couple of extras to deal with. I understand the pressure bu to deny a cancer patient a call or assistance is appalling.

  4. Review titled Friendly member of staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I came in to Fir Park for a cervical screening appointment and even though I joined this GP surgery a while ago, for this appointment it was my first time ever going into the medical centre. It was also my first time having this procedure done, so I was nervous and didn’t know what to expect. The staff member who carried out my appointment was fantastic. They were friendly, professional and put me at ease after I told them I was a bit worried about having the screening done. I just wanted to say thank you to them for being so mindful throughout the appointment. They’re a credit to the NHS. People are very quick to post negative reviews (which I can understand given how things can be) but I also think it’s just as important to leave positive reviews for good practice as well.

  5. Review titled Disgraceful level of service

Rated 1 star out of 5

You can’t get through on the telephone to make an appointment when you eventually do you are told there are no appointments available they are at full capacity and advised to go to the Walk in Centre or A&E!! Extremely worrying if they are at full capacity by mid morning .I appreciate organisations have staff shortages with unexpected absences but this is the norm here . You literally can’t get an appointment . Reception staff are rude with no compassion or empathy and I would suggest some training is implemented as a priority . I have been with this practice over 30 years and never had an issue but since they have relocated their standards and reputation have declined significantly.

Dear Patient, Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. I am sorry to hear that you feel you have received a disgraceful level of service. We have recently increased the reception team, to reduce waiting times on the telephone system, however this has also led to appointments being booked up in a shorter timeframe. We have pre-bookable appointments available online, via NHS App, and we have recently increased the number of pre-bookable appointments available when a patient contacts us via telephone. We have also increased the number of online consultations available on a daily basis via Patchs, the link can be found on our website, and these are available at 9am Monday-Friday. We also offer pre-bookable appointments via our extended hours service at Highfield Hospital on a weekday evening or a Saturday. To ease the wait on the telephones, we are introducing a new call-back service next week, which will allow patients to choose a call-back and not need to wait on the telephone in the virtual queue. Unfortunately, as with every GP practice, we do have a limit to our daily capacity, however we are trying to change and adapt to offer more options to patients. I am saddened to hear that you have found our reception team to be rude and I will pass your comments to our Reception Team Leader to look into more available training options for the team, alongside their regular training schedule. Kind Regards Emillie Davies Deputy Practice Manager

  6. Review titled Amazing Practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Lynn Loftus - Posted on 23 December 2023

I attended Fir Park Medical a couple of weeks ago. After a thorough examination the doctor actually phoned a registrar at Whiston Hospital while I was there and within a few days I had a CT scan. You can’t ask for better service than that. We’ve been with this surgery for over 40 years and everyone is very professional and very caring and they’ve always gone above and beyond. I would recommend this surgery 100%.

  7. Review titled Life saver

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Michael Patrick John Rice - Posted on 07 March 2024

I visited The doctors surgery on the 20th October 2023 for a routine prostate examination, although I had no symptoms of any kind and was feeling fit and well. I was examined by a male nurse clinician, who was concerned how my prostate felt during the examination, although my PSA blood results where showing normal at 1.2. As the nurse was concerned by the examination he referred me to the specialist team at St Helens hospital. I had MRI scans and biopsies which showed I had Prostate cancer. I have since had my prostate removed and on Thursday the 29th February I was told all subsequent biopsies and tests showed I was clear of the cancer and needed no further treatment. Having been diagnosed with prostate cancer, it prompted my 2 brothers to get themselves checked. My older brother has also been diagnosed with prostate cancer and is due to have his prostate removed in 5 weeks. My younger brother showed signs but not to the extent he needs treatment but just to be monitored at this stage. Both my brothers are also feeling fit and well and were showing no signs of the illness. I am totally convinced that the diligence shown by the nurse clinician saved my life, to which I and my family will be eternally grateful to him, but also the indirectly the lives of my brothers, and made all our sons very aware of this silent killer and to be regularly tested when they reach their 50s. Thank you Fir Park, I cant praise you enough.

  8. Review titled A lovely experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Jessica - Posted on 08 October 2023

My son is 23 months and he is petrified of the doctors, dentist or any clinical setting after a bad experience when he was younger. Taking him to the doctors is a nightmare as he is so upset and has to be restrained to be examined. I dreaded bringing him in but the children's nurse that saw him was just brilliant. She was so kind and understanding and made my son feel at ease with endless stickers and chats about his recent holiday. She was able to take my son's stats by placing the monitor on his finger which is the thing he is most scared of and noone has been able to do before as it causes lots of upset which in turn has meant unreliable readings. My son actually spoke to the nurse and walked out of the doctors with a smile on his face which truly is incredible and a big step towards overcoming his fears. My experience has always been so positive with this practice so I just wanted to say a big thank you.

  9. Review titled Great Service Yet Again

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 04 September 2023

After receiving an email (the surgery had already tried to contact me twice by phone) regarding blood test reults I assumed it was the same results I had received from the hospital and already had a further blood test arranged for. I missed 2 further calls from the surgery and then picked up a second email advising me an appointment was being made for me to go for a scan and I would be notified by post of the appointment. As I am experiencing problems with the post receiving it only every 7 - 10 days and I was concerned about what I read in the email I went to the surgery today for further advice and spoke to one of the reception team in private. Within minutes I had the advice I needed and was able to act on it immediately, I now have a scan arranged for Wednesday. Fir Park staff and by that I mean every member of staff have never failed to respond to my needs at very worrying times for several years now and I am thasnkful of their dedication and service. I would always highly recommend them.

For a practice that has thousands of patients it does really try. It may take a few month's to get an appointment but you do in the end. Keep trying. It is worth it.
