  1. Review titled Face to face appointments

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by John McAuley - Posted on 03 December 2024

No matter how I try I just don’t get a face to face appointment, I phoned this morning at exactly 8am as soon as the phones went live and it was answered after about 6 attempts. After the recorded message I pressed 1 for appointments and I was only 13th in the queue so instead of pressing 5 and opting for a call back I waited and after about 8 minutes it was answered by a receptionist it wasn’t even 08:10 and I was told that the practice was fully booked up for today and as always the best I could hope for was a telephone consultation. Fully booked up? I was 13th in the queue, only 12 people in front of me and only 08:10 in the morning how can this be possible? I walked my dogs past the medical centre about 3 hours later and there was no more than 6 cars in the car park so it wasn’t exactly heaving with patients. Could someone please explain how this totally unacceptable patient management system work's when a 68 year old with some ongoing medical issues is clearly lied to by a receptionist and unable to get an appointment.

Dear Mr McAuley, We apologise for your experience today. Today we experienced unprecedented volumes of calls to the practice. When you can't get onto the line it means they are full with 80 patients. So the 6 times you attempted meant that there were 80 patients already in the system and therefore the lines are full. As you can imagine our capacity isn't unlimited and exceptional days such as today we can have provided all our appointments to patients very early. Although you will have seen very little traffic on site 3 hours later that is because our clinicians undertake a triage service meaning that patients are first contacted at home and anyone needing to be seen face to face are then brought in a different times. This allows the practice to provide the most suitable service to it's patients. Some patients can be diagnosed and supported without having to take time from work and travel into the practice, whereas some conditions need a physical review. Our system ensures that access to our site is maintained from a parking perspective whilst ensuring all patients get the service that is most suitable for their needs.

Cant get appointments like gold dust Have to satisfy reception of your ailment Appointments gone even when call as instructed 8am No continuity of who you see meaning varied standard of interest depending on the clinician Appalling re follow ups re annual bp and blood tests Have to chase and remind them to do & your treated like a hinderance for doing so Bloods lady looks like weight of the world on her & you usually have to remind her what checks she is doing Depending on her mood she is flippant or over reacts to those results Reported felt faint and concerned to try and get an appointment and b.p was very varied and often high granted asked for an appointment in afternoon after bloods Not a chance Receptionist sought guidance and 111 Patches or calling 8am following morning suggested when those things should be serious flags apathetic and disinterested Had things needing following up in past and left them cos no continuity or chasing a follow up appointment Puts people at risk cos i give up on getting appointment adequate time to speak follow up support or guidance Place used to be heaving now empty so where are all these booked up appointments Prescription change to had to chase and chase When was resolved offhand attitude Like Its sorted no big deal Well be Person Centred It maybe nothing yo you but is to the Patient Im in the NHS and Person Centred ness is at the heart of what we do day in day out. I shall very reluctantly go private for my health checks And when i get time be researching transferring to another G.p’s

Dear Anonymous. We are sorry to hear that you are having such difficulties accessing our services and that you are disappointed with the care you feel you are being provided with. As a practice we have have made massive improvements on patient access recently with us now regularly having a number of appointments available once all calls have been triaged. Based on your experiences you must have tried to access us on exceptionally busy periods which can occasionally happen due to holidays periods and fluctuations in demand. We continue to improve the patients experience by creating a culture of patient centered care however it appears in your recent experience we fell short which is disappointing and something we will continue to try and improve.

  5. Review titled Great Nurse Consultant

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Paul Cullen - Posted on 15 July 2024

Unfortunately I can't remember his name but the nurse consultant who saw me on 15 July was excellent. Polite, professional, bang on the appointment time and friendly. He put me at my ease immediately and showed empathy and understanding when explaining my condition. Way way better than consultations with most doctors and just as (if not more) knowledgeable. Id prefer to see this guy, or one of the nurse consultants every time I go to the surgery so it might be an idea to give the option at triage or at least tell you that your appointment will be with a doctor or nurse consultant.

Dear Anonymous. We apologise for what seems to have been a technical error. I am pleased that as a practice we were able to contact you proactively and to find you an alternative appointment. We do however apologise that on the occasion in question yuo had a wasted journey. Unfortunately although the Team I am sure will have completely believed that you had arrived 30 minutes earlier as the clinical team would not have been informed and would have had patients booked in for appointments for the rest of the clinic it would not have been possible to fit you in, hence why you were provided with an alternative appointment date. If your issue is causing problems and is worsening we generally have appointments available every day to address this or alternatively we have online consultation appointments which can be accessed which are provided with appointments on the day where necessary.

  10. Review titled Very positive experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Eleanor Hughes - Posted on 11 March 2024

I spoke to the duty GP today to express my concern for a relative. The GP was kind, thorough, listened clearly to my concerns and patiently addressed each in a methodical manner. We are grateful for the GP's help, especially in light of the extreme pressures that the GPs are under in the present climate.
