It’s true the Pharmacy Team are usually very helpful: I rang recently with queries about my meds only to find that I was due a blood test very soon to monitor the drug change. News to me as the GP hadn’t mentioned it - I tend to remember things like that. Fortunately the PT were able to book me in for it on the day requested by the GP. Had I not rung them I would never have known about it. Havens Health could save themselves a lot of time by prompt efficient attention to detail. Over time the no of calls, appointments etc would fall. It took me six years and some fuss-making on my part to finally get referred to a hospital clinic who treated a common hard-to-treat condition which has a serious negative impact on sufferers’ lives. Now happily it is under control, but requires quarterly blood tests. Haven’s Health won’t provide these without another song and dance from me, and ignore specialists’ letters who then send reminders. This wastes HH time as well as the hospital’s, and mine. Why not provide a more streamlined, attentive, yes professional, service? For their own sake.

I joined this practice a couple of months ago. I have been very impressed with the care I have received. All the reception staff I have spoken to have been polite, friendly and helpful, explaining the appointment system to me when I first joined the practice. I got appointments I needed when I rang. I saw a doctor on Wednesday 25th September and she was thorough, kind and attentive. She reassured me and explained everything to me very clearly. I also saw another doctor on Tuesday 8th October for a specific treatment. He was thorough, kind, attentive and explained everything well. I have had excellent care so far.

Unfortunately the ‘rules’ on appointments ie when to call, what is judged an emergency, seem to differ according to whoever answers the phone. Another inconsistency concerns blood tests: for years I’ve been told to have my blood sugar checked every three months, but more recently I’m told once a year is enough as these tests are very expensive. Same goes for my electrolytes. I’ve also noticed that the likelihood of my getting an appointment depends on my husband ringing for me which usually works. If he accompanies me to the surgery any queries I make to receptionists are answered to him with no eye contact with me. Rude, sexist.

The requirement for tests vary from patient to patient depending on many factors, and for the same patient again frequency can change depending on the change in their health or previous results. Over the past few months I've had to contact the prescription line. They are extremely helpful, calm and have time for you. This makes a big difference when enquiring/requesting more medication. Today I have called and all was sorted in a matter of minutes. Great service

I recently visited the surgery and I asked to see a female (if possible) nurse or GP, due to the nature of my problem. I was offered an appointment very quickly with an advanced nurse practitioner who was very understanding and thorough in dealing with the issue. She was very patient and couldn't have been kinder in her approach. She also took the time to call me at a later date and convince me to have further tests done for completeness. Again she couldn't have been nicer about this. Whilst I hope that I don't have to attend the surgery again anytime soon, if I was to have a similar problem in the future, I would definitely try and see the same nurse. She is a credit to the surgery.

It’s no secret that this surgery used to be quite possibly the worst in Peacehaven (a victim of three practices closing into this one remaining site), and Covid then broke them completely. However! I had cause to phone for an issue a few weeks back, popped myself in the queue for Appointments, got offered a callback rather than waiting, and then got a call back about 30 minutes later. The lady was caring, compassionate, understanding, and sign-posted a more appropriate facility as she conceded the care type I’d need for my injury they were I’ll-equipped to undertake (as an X-ray would be needed first) so send me to a nearby Minor Injury unit instead. Credit where credit is due, it is obvious the management have put huge effort into getting back to a good position, and it is most noticeable. Thank you !

I needed emergency care to drain an abcess on my finger. I was seen quickly, treated well and provided with meds and aftercare advice. Doctor and pharmacist went out of their way to ensure I was left cared for.

The appointment process when you ring after 8am , with the keeping of one’s place in the queue and call back works so much better. I was also impressed today when I received a text confirming my referral, very soon after my appointment .
