  1. Review titled Extremely poor doctor’s practice

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 22 August 2022

My very elderly mother is a patient at this practice. She is in her 90s and has a chronic condition. Over the last 2/3 years the care has been totally unacceptable. It takes at least an hour (this morning it took 1 hour 42 minutes) to order prescription items for her. To make an appointment is doubly difficult because of the time it takes to get through and the length of time she has to wait for the appointment. Indeed a face to face appointment is impossible, never an option. In fact she hasn’t seen a doctor from her own practice in over 2 years even though she is in her 90s. That’s not to say she hasn’t seen a doctor, but only doctors arranged by me through the 111 service. To clarify, she has had some telephone appointments but struggles to hear and so often doesn’t understand what has been said. Unfortunately, there seems to be no understanding at all of how particularly difficult this is for the very elderly. The result of this is that she puts off calling her GP surgery until she is quite ill. Not a good situation for an elderly lady in her 90s with a chronic condition who is doing her best to live an independent life to be forced into. There’s been a catalog of problem/incidents over the last few years related to her treatment. (Too many to list here.) The most recent was about a month ago…She got a call out of the blue from a doctor(I think) to do a review of her medicine. ( I don’t remember this ever happening before.) However, the result of this call was to reduce the dose of one of the tablets she’s been taking for 25 years. She couldn’t explain to me why this was necessary but decided regardless to follow the GPs instructions and as a result, hasn’t slept a full night since. A month or so prior to this, a community nurse was sent out to her home who she wasn’t expecting. She explained this to the nurse who still insisted on seeing her which of course she agreed to. After examining her, the nurse realised herself that a mistake had been made. This reminded me of a previous incident regarding her last covid booster in which the surgery insisted she had already had it. We discovered this because my mum telephoned the surgery to enquire why there had been a delay in her receiving an injection (All her other elderly friends had long since had theirs.) The receptionist insisted that she had already had it suggesting she forgotten about it. Later, that afternoon when I intervened, the mistake was acknowledged. Unfortunately the events which followed compounded the error as following a suggestion from the receptionist I took her to a pharmacy who refused to give her the injection because it was recorded on the NHS system that she had already had it. It took a few more days of discussion and insisting with the surgery to sort it out before she got her booster. In summary, in our experience the Kensington Road surgery has many problems which need to be addressed and fall well short of an effective, caring and safe NHS GP practice.

  2. Review titled Very good telephone consultation

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 05 September 2022

I had a telephone consultation with a doctor whom I didn’t know to discuss results of a blood test. It occurred within the time I was expecting and I was talked through all the results very clearly and was given suggestions as to how to remedy the out of “normal” results. For some, I had to collect forms from the surgery and these were ready for collection the next day. The receptionists were most kind and helpful.

The staff at Kensington Road surgery saved my life,!!!! Thank you so much to all of the staff at the surgery . On my recent visit to the surgery the receptionist recognised that I was very ill and I was immediately taken under their wing. They made me comfortable and called an ambulance. I arrived at UHCW and was immediately taken to surgery and had been operated on within the next hour. Well done to all of the staff at this GP surgery. They are Angels Also thank goodness for the wonderful NHS

  4. Review titled Can't get hold of them

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Elina - Posted on 06 October 2022

I've had several health issues that I need to discuss with my GP. When I call, I'm in the telephone queue for a minimum 45min every single time. I've had to hang up after waiting an hour as I've got work to do! It's ridiculous and extremely frustrating. This summer I have also had two issues with prescriptions being sent late to the pharmacy, and two times where referral letters have been forgotten and not sent to the hospital which has delayed my treatment by months. I am leaving this GP for Broomfield!!

Dear Elina I am sorry it has taken so long to respond to this review however as this is historic and before my time I can only say that our new telephone system has greatly improved phone waiting times and answering times and has been well received by our patients.
