  1. Review titled Dreadful very very difficult to get an appointment

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 19 November 2022

I feel that I have to chase and chase to get help and information about my medical conditions once I have had a scan at Russell Hall or if I have any blood tests again I have to telephone the surgery again and again and can't get through for ages I have been 93 in the que on the telephone. I have been so poorly for a long time due to my Cancer and the side effects of the radiation treatment after all this time. After a visit a few days ago to Russell Hall hospital I have now been told I have lymphoedema. This is what has been causing the Cellulitis in both of my legs the swelling and the pain is unbelievable I feel that I have had very little help and care. I feel as though no one cares about me and I have been messed about so much concerning my diagnosis it is frustrating and frightening. The reception staff try to do their best but I am fed up of going round and round in circles I do not know what help I can get or where to go for these latest conditions or if there is any treatment to help me. I need to speak to a doctor but again when will I be able to get an appointment. Apparently I need some surgical stockings I have been given a form to fill in by the reception staff at Lion Health and told to measure my legs myself and take the form back before the GP can order them. I need my legs to be measured by a professional it's so important to get this done correctly and I can not do it myself. They won't help me I need blood tests which have been requested by the Doctor the appointment was cancelled weeks ago and I have not heard from the nurse to make a new one. I really could do with some help I have been sent some meds and I don't know why or what they are for.

Dear Patient, I'm sorry for the experience with trying to obtain an appointment. We care about all of our patients and aim to give the best care possible, If you use our website to submit feedback, and include your name I can unpick this further. We will struggle to do that if we can't identify your name/number. Alternatively don't hesitate to get obtain an appointment which can me made at 0800 by telephone or by booking a pre-bookable appointment online which are available at 0730 and 1900 daily. Thank you for your comments, and apologies again for your experience. Kind Regards LH

I have tried for 4 days to get appointment with GP still not able to get one. I had to 111 in the end as I could get an appointment /or call back. I was one day 102 in line and other 75 line really good. Just too big and not copping with level of people I work so getting thought is not great. Will be looking for a new GP where I can be seen. would not register with them.

Dear Anonymous, Thank you very much for your feedback. We are sorry that you never managed to receive an appointment however as you can appreciate on these particular days the call volume for appointments was high. However, we do have various ways that patients can book an appointment, we have online pre-bookable appointments that are released daily at 0730 and 1900 the evening before. We also have appointments available for 1-2 weeks in advance. This is a finite resource and has proven to be popular and they are quickly taken up. Again, thank you for feedback and all feedback is greatly appreciated as we are always looking to make improvements. Kind Regards, LH

  3. Review titled Feeling suicidal

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 18 October 2022

I currently have a medical problem and over the last 3 weeks I have had a phone appointment with a doctor, a face to face appointment with a nurse and a face to face appointment with a dermatologist but the issue hasn't been resolved. The problem is so bad now that I am suicidal. I phoned the surgery for an appointment this morning and I was begging for help and told the receptionist I was suicidal but she was very abrupt and told me there were no appointments of any type left today and that I need to go to the walk in centre at the local hospital. I told her I have already been there recently and that they had just told me to go back to my GP. I cannot tell you how this has made me feel, she told me l'd already seen several medical professionals and there is nothing else they can do for me. I'm already thinking of suicide and the lack of compassion from this receptionist has absolutely floored me. I have non Hodgkin's lymphoma so I'm already anxious and the lack of care and compassion shown to me this morning has heightened the anxiety to a new level. I then went to the surgery itself and once again explained what I’ve said above. The lady said she’d get a doctor to phone me but would only address my mental health and not the issue causing it. I told her there would be no point because the root cause would still be there and that I have spoken with the Samaritans already. I find it beggars belief that in 2022 a suicidal person is brushed aside and shown no care whatsoever. The attitude given to me has only compounded the suicidal feelings - thank goodness the Samaritans are taking the time to speak with me.

Thank you very much for your recent feedback, Unfortunately, i can't comment on the particulars, however i can assure you that i have personally looked into this and that you have received a telephone consultation from one of our GP's. I do hope the care you are receiving does help however if this does persist, please do not hesitate to get in contact with a member of the management team who can discuss this through with yourself. 4. Review titled dreadful service

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 21 November 2022

Cannot get doctors appointments when you are ill. Telephone lines open and you are 72 in the queue. After 75 minute wait all appointments are taken. I was acting for a 93 year old. Referred on 2 seperate by district nurses. Once told the surgery nurse would visit him and once told a doctor would visit him. On both occassions the surgery nurse phoned and said she did not do home visits dispite the patient being disabled and having no independent transport and being ill. I tried to make appointments for a long term condition review, a covid booster, and a flu jab. I was told this required 3 seperate appointments despite the pharmacy on the premises insisting that the covid and flu must be given together. I could list many more dissatisfactions in recent months but it is simpler to say has too many patients and cannot cope. I am actively searching for another surgery. Very angry and very dissatisfied.

Dear Anonymous, Thank you for your recent feedback. We are sorry for your experiences here at Lion Health. Unfortunately with not leaving your name we wouldn't be able to look into why home visits couldn't be conducted. However if you do leave a message through the LH website or contact reception a member of the team can look into this. As you can imagine especially with being 72nd in the queue the call volumes that we receive can be high and can result in longer than normal call times. We do acknowledge that there are sometimes long waits on the phone lines, however we do pool staffing resource to try to ensure calls are answered as quickly as possible at peak times. We also offer all patients who are eligible the flu jab and depending on availability we have also offered the COVID jab to patients who request it and they would not need a separate appointment. Again apologies for your recent experience and we do value your feedback. Regards, LH

  5. Review titled Excellent care, service and Understanding

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Bronwen Morgan - Posted on 08 September 2022

Lion Health and its staff have been my GP practise since it was originally at Worcester street. Often I hear from friends, family and colleagues that they are not happy with the service - however I can genuinely say that each part of the practise has always provided me with the best care. From the Administrative staff, Nurses, Allied Health professionals and Doctors - I have always felt heard, treated and cared for. As the general public and even more so since Covid 19 we want everything done faster than imaginable, but with a practise like Lion Health serving such a large constituency, the work must go both ways. Yes it can be hard to get an appointment, Yes you have to wait along time on the phone and often start ringing before the phone lines are open - but what is the limit for your own health? The staff at Lion Health are human, they work to the maximum capacity possible, they understand your frustration but often have a variety of guidelines in place to priorities specific patients and emergencies. I work for the NHS, I saw covid on a very low scale and it was horrifying, I have worked clinically and administratively and 99% of us want the very best for every patient we come into contact with. So next time you use your GP service or any other NHS service that we are beyond lucky to have, please remember to work with them as much as they work with you. Appointments come out at 8:00am - ring at 7:55, get in that queue and be kind to whoever helps you. I don't have enough words of gratitude to this GP Practice, but will never stop saying thank you!

Dear Bronwen, Thank you for your positive feedback and comments. It is greatly appreciative to have a patient who understands the pressures that the team have as part of the wider NHS. As you allude to all we want here at Lion Health is the best for our patients and the staff work hard to ensure this is given with the constraints placed on us, as the demand on the NHS far outweighs the supply. Your gratitude is greatly received and we will ensure this is passed onto the staff here at lion Health. Kindest Regards LH

Dear Mr Melia, Thank you for your recent feedback. We are sorry for the problems that have been caused in trying to receive an appointment. Unfortunately, due to the high demand that we receive at 0800 once our capacity for appointments has been filled, we will put on a message that all our appointments are filled. We do have further ways to book an appointment we have online pre -bookable appointments which are released at 0730 every morning and 1900 and these can be booked using the NHS app and patient access. With regards to being cut-off on the phonelines we will feed this back into our suppliers to try and get this resolved. Kind Regards, LH

  7. Review titled New online booking system

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by KAY H - Posted on 04 August 2022

I would just like to say how wonderful it is to be able to choose/book face-to-face appts online once again. The ability to select same/next day slots as well as 1 week ahead is so convenient, especially for patients who are working. I realise that this service is limited at the moment, but is a massive step forward & hopefully it will continue as things gradually recover from COVID. My family & I all really appreciate the service that has been available to us throughout these very difficult times &, as an NHS worker myself, I know how difficult this has been. Many thanks to you all.

I had a telephone consultation booked in with Doctor Locum and he never called! It took ages to get this appointment. I was waiting for 3 weeks! This is a disgrace. Try to call to find out what’s happened and in a queue 35th and then get cut off!

  10. Review titled Impossible to get an appointment

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 29 July 2022

If you try to book online the earliest appointment is one month. I have to book on the day twice in the last two months. On the first occasion, I waited 105 minutes having got through bang on 8 o’clock. Having explained the symptoms, I was told a doctor would phone me back. Never received the call. Today, I phoned 2 seconds past 8. The recorded message said the surgery was closed. Re-dialled 10 secs later same outcome. Got through 2 mins past eight and got the recorded message all appointments filled.

Dear Anonymous, Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately we do have a high call volume at 0800 in the morning but we do pool staff to ensure that call times are reduced. However we did make changes to the appointment system that were implemented from the 4th July 2022. The changes involved have given more varied access to our appointments which was advertised on our social media platforms as well on our website. Patients can now pre book more appointments through patient access, these include same day appointments, appointments for 1 week and 2 weeks in advance. Also patients can pre book appointments through the phone system. However just to reiterate the appointments are a finite resource and we can only offer what is available. Regards, LH
