Been seeing the nurse for a few years now because I was pre-diabetic but now have Type 2. Tried to control it with diet but seem to have plateaued so have to take medication now. The nurse is so kind and knowledgeable, lots of helpful tips and reassurances. A credit to the practice

Review titled Why have a local GP?
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 24 July 2024
A recent gout flareup has caused some quite considerable pain over the last day or so, and with me running short on my prescribed naproxen to help manage with the pain I called my local GP for help. After calling at 08:00 sharp, to the greeting of the phone lines are full, I tried the online enquiry form of which this has "hit its maximum number of entries for the day". It was 10 past 8 in the am. Persistence meant I finally got through to the telephone queue, position 14 and a nice 28 minute wait, to get through to the reception. To then be told I couldn't get a repeat prescription due to time, understandable, and would need to see a doctor again understandable. But what I don't understand is, how there are no foreseeable appointments at my local GP never mind seeing someone that day, and I am asked to go to the walk in center in Derby, where they may have an appointment for me later that week. This is all well and good but I work 8-6, we're a one car household and my partner needed the car that week, and to be told their is public transport is great but I cannot walk because I'm having a severe gout outbreak. Really not impressed, I've been with Mickleover medical center for my entire life and they seem to be getting worse, I suspect the vast increase in new houses hasn't helped but to anyone considering moving here (if they are taking new people) my advice would be don't, certainly if you are looking for a local GP, because for me it's basically a call center.

Got an appointment by calling at surgery 8am. When I’d rang phone kept saying messaging was full as soon as I rang number. No other options to get appointment. Was so nice to see this though Gp back at M’over surgery again. Not seen for years. Always so pleasant, helpful & reassuring but thorough.

Rang on a Monday morning about my young daughter and call answered by a friendly and efficient receptionist. Appropriate advice given and appointment arranged for later in the day following a triage call. Very pleased with receptiveness and standard of care provided

Sometimes this surgery is really hit or miss. But the Dr I saw today with my two children was absolutely fantastic and exactly what you wish every GP to be like.

During difficult times for the health services ,on my last visit to the surgery the receptionist was supportive , giving me time to explain my options , , The doctor on my appointment also gave me time to explain my issues , I was not rushed , this can be very important during a consultation , positive feedback can support and help all staff , the NHS do a fantastic job thank you I went in feeling stressful but I came out feeling I had been helped by professional staff

Review titled Generally good service
Rated 4 stars out of 5

I obtained an appointment with a doctor and the outcome was satisfactory. In contrast my wife failed to get an appointment with a serious problem and after a failure with 111 we ended up at accident & emergency department. Individually the staff are very good. The dominant issue is with access to appointments.

They helped my daughter with a personal and time critical situation with urgency, professionalism and understanding. Once again excellent service from Mickleover Medical Centre!

Review titled Poor service and availability

Almost impossible to get an appointment. You need to call at 8am on the day and by the time you get through all appointments are gone. You should be able to book in advance. It honestly makes me so nervous. I have recently relocated to the area and have never had such a bad experience with a GP practice before.
