Review titled Receptionist actions
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Darren - Posted on 03 August 2024
I was having a very bad reaction to tramadol and needed different painkillers. One receptionist insisted I came in even though I was vomiting constantly and had very little awareness of my surroundings. I stayed outside being sick waiting for my appointment with my wife, another receptionist came outside to assist me with sick bowels and gave comfort as I was confused mentally. She was truly amazing and helped me to keep in control which enabled us to see the doctor. My wife had to guide me through the process as I was confused about everything and my location. It didn't take too long to get approval for different painkillers from a senior doctor and I waited in the car for the very fast response from the chemist over the road, who went above and beyond to dispense them rapidly. My wife drove home and I sleep for over 12 hours solid to clear my system. I would truly like to hug that receptionist who helped me when I was out of it but I can't remember what she looks like though, just that she wasn't tall. The other receptionist probably just followed procedure and cut out the human element of the job, didn't really impress.I have worked in pharmaceuticals for twenty years in supervision and I know which one I would have on my team. But I did get to see an actual doctor to resolve the issue and get the correct pain relief. Even though I didn't know what or where I was. Very much appreciated for all the help I was given at short notice.

Review titled Unpleasant Experience
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 01 August 2024
Myself and my family have been patients at the Surgery for around 70 years and have never had as unpleasant an experience as this one. The nurse was excellent, after I had seen her she asked me to make an appointment to see her at the end of the week, or beginning of the following week. When we approached the receptionist to ask this, she rolled her eyes at us and sighed. She said that there were no appointments available to see a nurse. I understand how difficult it is to get an appointment and how precious they are, but this was very confusing to me as the nurse had just asked me to book in to see her. I believe that communication between staff needs to be improved to prevent confusion such as this. If the clinicians are not aware that they have no appointments available, this needs to be communicated to them to prevent this from happening again. The most upsetting part of this was the attitude of the receptionist. She was very dismissive, abrupt and borderline rude. We have never been treated this way before. I was told that I will have to attend the out of hours clinic and sit and wait however long it takes to get an appointment. I am not really happy to do this, as I was prepared to come back and see the same nurse to keep a continuity of my care. But now, I will have to see someone else. I understand how difficult it is to work in the NHS, having family members who also work in it. But the way we were treated was unacceptable and has left me feeling upset and angry.

Review titled Reception

My appointment with the doctor was good and did not feel rushed. However, the reception staff came across as abrupt. I appreciate the job isn't always easy, but a smile costs nothing.

I tried to book an appointment last week but no availability for this specific appointment with the nurse. They then called me yesterday to update me with some new dates. Good communication from the admin team.

Review titled Horrific Service
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 01 August 2024
Whether it be receptionist or GPs how you are spoken to is horrendous. I work full time and when I want an appointment it’s like pulling teeth. The phone is put down on me sometimes when I get through, so I try again to be told there is no appointments and I can only have a phone call. I want to see a doctor in person hence why I’m calling. When I have a phone call appointment scheduled from the surgery sometimes a month in advance it’s human nature to forget you have an appointment as there is no reminder set. I work throughout the week so sometimes I can’t pick the phone up. So when I miss the call and have to reschedule I then have to wait up to another month for results on a blood test so if I need medication I am not being told so I’m being withheld if it is something I need. Newhall Surgery has been my surgery since birth and the older I get the worse it gets. They don’t talk to you like a person and are quite argumentative and don’t listen to you. I dread having to try and get an appointment when I’m ill because sometime by 8:10/8:15 there is “no appointments left for today, you can go to the local walk in centre and wait to be seen there”. I do not want that, I am calling my local surgery and being ferried all over just to get basic medical attention. If someone was to ask me would you recommend Newhall surgery I would strongly advise them to go elsewhere!

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that you were not pleased with the service provided by the Practice. We installed a new telephone system last year which provides a call back service for patients ease, we monitor all calls and dropped calls although this happens very infrequently. We have a safe level for appointments and where necessary we will divert patients to alternative services to ensure their needs are met. May I ask you to take the time to complete a complaints form or email us on ddicb.newhallenquiries@nhs.net with your details and details of the complaint, we will be happy to address your concerns. Many thanks. Claire - Management Assistant.

When the person’s name who I am going to see appears on the screen, there is no room number so I do not know which room to go to. Suggest this is made clearer.
