Reception staff occasionally very snappy. Yes they are under pressure but so are we all. Ridiculous you have to ring on the morning or afternoon you want an appointment. There should be the opportunity to forward book some appointments. The appointment boiking staff are not GPs or medical practitioners but some like to diagnose and say whether they think they will let you speak to someone, which is unfair.

We thank you for your understanding given the pressure we are under however, we wouldn’t expect our staff to come across as snappy. We would welcome more specific feedback in relation to this matter if you could email them to wyicb-wak.ossettsurgery@nhs.net to allow us to investigate this matter. You mention the possibility of pre-booking appointments. Whilst we operate an on-the-day system, which we find works very well as often a pre-bookable model you can be waiting weeks to see a GP whilst you are acutely unwell where with our system, we try our best to get you seen that day which of course, can be difficult to manage dependent on capacity and actually how many people call that day. We have previously listened to our patients and created a few pre-bookable slots for clinicians that can be booked for non-same-day urgent issues. We also have access to pre-bookable GP face-to-face appointments on a Saturday morning that can be pre-booked two weeks in advance however, this may not to see your regular GP. Our call handlers are trained in care navigation which is why they will ask you specific questions about your illness or ailment on the day you call. This is certainly not to diagnose you but simply book the most appropriate appointment for you. For example, if the complaint was a dental issue or a sight issue, then we would of course direct you to the dentist or optician who has the correct training and equipment in that specialty to treat you. This then frees those two appointments up for other patients who otherwise may not be able to get an appointment. We are sorry if this feels intrusive however, it is a common practice shared by many GP practice reception and administration teams. Again, if would be willing to email the practice with specific incidents we would be more than willing to look into these to understand whether there may be a learning/training issue. Rang appointments today and selected call back to avoid waiting in queue. Appointments rang me 10 minutes later, I explained problem and was told doctor would ring me. Doctor rang and after discussing problem a prescription was sent to pharmacy for me to collect. Exactly what I wanted, efficient polite service.

Have been with this practice many years and always get a good service. Never had too much of a problem getting an appointment and feel like my needs are being looked after.

Hi I very rarely visit the doctor, I visited this time and had a few things I wished to discuss with the doctor. I was told I could only discuss one as my appointment was time limited which seemed daft as surely it is better discussing all in one appointment than several appointments which I found annoying. I have no challenge with the doctor or the experience with the doctor, it is obviously the system but the this system means the patient has a poorer experience. I am not challenging the surgery or staff for something they can’t fully control as they were all helpful. My main wish would be having time to discuss the concerns I have at one appointment and gain an health professionals advice, rather than possibly making further appointments and using up the doctors time. Once again thank you for the advice I did receive but my others concerns I wished to discuss must wait and I will make further appointments if they become more of a health concern.

We are currently looking into the potential of longer appointment times so that patients are able to discuss more than one issue per appointment, however longer appointment times reduce the amount of appointments we may be able to offer. Alternatively, you are able to request a double appointment at the time of booking with the administrative staff which will allow the clinician more time to discuss multiple concerns in the same consultation. I rang at 8am and was caller no 1 so hardly had to wait to speak to someone. The man who answered the phone was very patient and helpful and offered my husband an appointment at a time to suit him. The GP we saw was extremely pleasant, knowledgeable and helpful and took her time to answer all our questions and explain what she was going to do. We left feeling that everything had been dealt with satisfactorily.

Yesterday gave me great comfort with the caring service I received from the secretary and GP who went that extra mile to help me. I was treated with great compassion from my first phonecall for advice through to seeing the GP the same day.

Call times seem quite long every time I call but the call back system is brilliant. Cannot fault any of the staff. All very friendly and always helpful and will go over and above. I don’t however like the fact the surgery has 2 sides. It needs to be all in 1. Very inconvenient when you’re at the wrong side and it’s impossible to remember which side you were at last time.
