Review titled Hopeless practice
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Patricia - Posted on 07 August 2024
After 4 weeks of speaking to 6 different doctors, most of whom were unhelpful I was referred to Southmead where it was confirmed I have Stage 3 Cancer. Now I can't access my NHS App because Sea Mills Surgery say I have to re-register. This is impossible, and has added to my distress. I have been a patient for over 40 years, when this used to be a wonderful practice. You need to sort out how people can re-register for the NHS App, and access their details. It is truly shocking that a surgery can be so badly run.

Review titled Going downhill rapidly
Rated 2 stars out of 5

Sea Mills Surgery was an exceptional GP surgery, easy to get appointments, very good doctors, excellent support staff. They recently joined Mendip Vale partnership and have spiralled into a practice which is unrecognisable. It is next to impossible to get appointments, they won't do anything without an econsult form but on numerous occasions my forms have been completely ignored, not too mention they are horrendous to complete. They give appointments but don't log them in the system so you turn up only to have to make yet another appointment for a week or more. They have recently migrated their systems and in doing so completely wiped their servers so that all appointments made before the migration disappeared meaning they had multiple people turning up for the same appointments. It also meant that the NHS app no longer connects to my GP record so I can't check test results or order repeat prescriptions. I know from managing migrations in the past (incl for the NHS) that there were multiple things not put in place to make this smoother not only for their staff but also the patients. It's such a shame to see a surgery who were so good become a complete and utter shambles.

Review titled Sad. Just sad.
by Richard - Posted on 30 August 2024
Sea Mills Doctor Surgery used to be an exemplary Doctor’s; a source of pride. When our friends were complaining that their Doctor’s weren’t helpful, we were able to get appointments easily, see the Doctor’s we saw regularly, and had no issues. Then…Mendip Vale happened…first the phone system changed, and eConsult was introduced. Next, they decided to change their systems, resulting in my NHS App no longer connecting to my health record, and being no longer able to order my repeat prescriptions - this has resulted in me running out of my pain medication, due to delays in my prescription form being processed. I found the Doctors a useful place for advice regarding my mental health, and could see two Doctors who knew me, and my health conditions. I haven’t tried to book to see them for months, as I just get referred, by one of the newer receptionists, to fill out an eConsult form, which then gets left for multiple days. A few months back, I had a nasty ear infection - I’ve had them in the past, and knew that some simple drops from the Doc would cure it. I ring up, get referred to an eConsult form, and am told that a Doc would ring me within two days… The pain getting worse, I went to the pharmacy, who were apologetic that they weren’t able to provide anything stronger, that some ‘Ear Calm’ drops, from behind the counter. Fortunately, after four days of pain and discomfort, my ear infection began to ease. Only once it had eased, my Doctor rang. He was apologetic that it took so long. Since they’ve taken over, the management of Sea Mills Doctors Surgery has been poor, with slow responses, if at all, and an inability to talk to a Doctor, without talking to a receptionist, who seems to decide whether you get to have an appointment with a Doctor, or suffer through the eConsult system, and then wait. It is sad how it has deteriorated. Just like Helios Medical Centre, when Mendip Vale took over. It is happening all over again. So sad.

Review titled Lacking basic medical skills and a personal touch
Rated 2 stars out of 5

After two months and six visits, including a laboratory test, I am still awaiting a diagnosis for my symptoms as the staff seem incapable of demonstrating the first principles of medicine. Some staff, I have heard, are professional but not the ones I visited. They can only be part timers, like supply teachers, there to make up the numbers but not do anything of substance. The last doctor actually referred me to an ANP as she was not prepared to commitment herself or take the time to carry out a proper consultation! The administrative staff seem to have lost interest in the job having little time for patients, and the covid screen ensures there is no personal contact with the great unwashed. The staff go through the motions of work, like in a corporate bureaucracy, and the eConsult system allows them to hide behind a electronic wall as any personal contact is removed. After filling in eConsult forms with photos the doctors do not even bother to read them before a consultation, making it just an exercise in bureaucratic form filling where eConsult is triage by an AI algorithm. I can envisage within five years AI drones will replace all the staff at this surgery and I wager no one will even notice.

I went to the surgery on Monday 03/24 with a prescription for my son and was told that it would be done as he was going on holiday,he has been today on the 06/24 be told once again it hasn't been done, I also asked for it to be put on repeat just to be told that they don't do it, which I know is untrue as I have the same condition

Review titled Prompt and efficient

I received a face to face GP consultation three days after completing an e-consultation. I underwent blood tests and an X-ray the following working day. The results were available after a week and I received a telephone consultation four working days later. All for a persistent but non-critical condition. Everything was very timely and reassuring. Thank you.

Cynical, cruel, uncaring, unprofessional doctors. It was a relief to be seen by the nurses who did as much as the could.

Review titled Thankful to be with this practice
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Dorothy Jenner - Posted on 12 September 2023
In the last couple of years I seem to have needed to make contact with the surgery many, many times and have always been treated efficiently, respectfully, warmly and professionally by all members of staff. I feel extremely fortunate to be with this practice especially when I hear others complaining about their experiences.

Review titled Great for physical issues , not so much for mental health
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 02 August 2023
I’ve had great help and advice regarding physical ailments. But in my most recent experience of using reconsult to flag up major mental health issues these were ignored & only the physical side of the difficulty addressed. I’ve only mentioned my mental health twice before and on both those occasions as well it was ignored. It’s hard enough to raise this as an issue in the first place, I’d really like the doctors to be more alert to asking about this side of things. The surgery is otherwise fantastic .
