Review titled Great Practice reception staff
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by R Hinks - Posted on 20 October 2024
I needed to get medication prescribed by my consultant urgently. On telephoning the practice the receptionist was most helpful. A prescription had not been completed for me so I was put on the duty doctors list. Within 10 minutes I received a text informing me the prescription was waiting for me at the chemists. Superb service that needs to be recognized. Thank you to all staff at to the surgery especially the receptionist on duty on Friday 18th October.

Review titled First appointment with a doctor…...
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Marie - Posted on 20 September 2024
After seeing the doctor (first sight of a doctor since I’ve been at this practice in over 12 months, I came away feeling I had wasted his time and my own. He clearly didn’t want to listen!

Struggled to get appointment at different gps/ advice from pharmacy so visited this practice. Requested appointment online and received a call from gp/ receptionist the same day (only a few hours later) with appointment that day! Got to the practice for my appointment and was seen on time by a lovely practitioner who was great with help and advice.

Review titled Good Doctors
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by John Davies - Posted on 23 August 2024
I attended the practice on Wed 21/08/24. At first there was a little confusion as I had two problems to report, however, the Dr was very quick to update me on the most urgent matter. He mentioned that I should book in for a blood test and that I should expect a scan. He was then very fast to confirm that I do have a Hernia and that I would be on the surgery waiting list. I booked the blood test with reception on my way out. A day later I had Kidderminster imaging department on the phone and I have an appointment for a CT scan just three days after first meeting the doctor. Excellent service by all at St John's House. Thank you.

Review titled Wonderful Staff
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Gratitude Warrior - Posted on 06 July 2024
I am a new patient. I used the online triage service. I received a call back from a GP the same day. I was listened to and offered advice as well as a medication change, which was ready for me to collect the next day. I had a phone consultation booked with a pharmacist later that week, after which a blood test was booked, within hours. I was able to book a follow up appointment at the same time. All the staff are wonderful and clearly care about their patients and I have observed their kindness and professionalism tested on every occasion I have visited, pharmacy or surgery. I wanted to acknowledge them and say how much I appreciate all they do. Thank you to all at St Johns House and Murrays x

Review titled Massively under staffed in my opinion
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 15 June 2024
Following surgery with an open wound I was unable to get a 5 minute appointment for a significant amount of time with the nurse for a dressing change and instead was told to go to urgent care daily (I would have lost my job if I had to do that every day) very little care from the booking team in my opinion, thank goodness we have compassionate and caring district nurses who attended my home every day to pick up their shortfall. When I arrived at the surgery for my appointment two weeks later there was not one single person in the nurse waiting room, maybe they are understaffed… That being said, the nurse I saw was fantastic and the doctors I have seen here have been most helpful, I can typically get in same day to see a GP.

Dear Patient, We are very sorry to hear you had this experience. We have recently been running COVID vaccination clinics for Spring Boosters, which has taken a significant amount of nursing appointments out of general use, and have therefore caused some delays in appointment availability. If you wish to discuss this in more detail and allow us to undertake a full investigation into why this has happened, please do not hesitate to contact us via our surgery email address, hwicb.stjohnshousesurgery@nhs.net. We would like to thank you for raising your concerns. All complaints are reviewed thoroughly to see how we can improve the service that we provide to our patients. St Johns House Medical Centre

Needed to have a very nasty cough/longstanding infection? Checked. Got an appointment that day after filling in triage form. Had a very comprehensive examination and was reassured that my lungs etc were ok.

Review titled Incompetent and waste patients' time
by Anonymous - Posted on 06 June 2024
After having back problems, I was referred for various scans, the latest of which was a dexa scan at Worcester Royal. I had to chase up the practice for the results during an appointment with one of the GPs for a non-related matter. After much searching of the system he gave me the results and then recommended I have full blood tests done, even though I had already had various blood tests done when I was referred to the Royal Orthopaedic hospital in Birmingham. After booking an appointment for blood samples to be taken, I arrived at the practice only to be told by the nurse that she didn't know what the samples were for as there was nothing on their system and therefore couldn't do it. After going off to speak to various people, she came back to say that she still could not take samples as there was no information of what was meant to be happening on my file. As I prepared to leave she mentioned that I might be asked to come back for another appointment for samples to be taken but if that happens I shall decline as I don't want to waste my time again. This is just basic incompetence on the part of the GP I saw and does nothing to instil patient confidence in the practice.

Review titled Absolutely abysmal
Rated 1 star out of 5
by John - Posted on 02 May 2024
Absolutely abysmal. I cannot believe this is what passes for healthcare in a developed country in 2024. Try somewhere else if you have a choice, but maybe everywhere is like this these days... Was told I needed a phone appointment just for repeat medication - earliest appointment was a 1month + wait! They said they would call me within a 3h window. I missed the call by 2 minutes due to being a normal person with a job. Currently have been on hold for 20+ minutes trying to get through.

Dear John, We are very sorry to hear that you feel our practice is abysmal. We have seen a huge increase in demand for our services recently; we have increased the number of staff answering our telephone calls, responding to online requests and working on our reception desk, however demand is still extremely high. Unfortunately there is not a solution that will solve all of our capacity and demand issues to suit every patient at the practice. We are usually able to meet the needs of our patients and provide sufficient appointments and methods to book them, but the current situation has provided a challenge we cannot solve immediately. As a proactive and innovative practice, we will continue to investigate the best way to provide general practice services with the funding that we are given. We are now receiving on average 500+ calls and 100+ online requests a day. These are not all looking to book appointments, but include covid vaccination, referral, medication, access and record queries which all take substantially longer than booking an appointment. Our website and the NHS App has the functionality to submit routine queries and we are encouraging patient to use this rather than to call us to resolve some of the issues. If you wish to discuss your experience in more detail, please do not hesitate to contact us via our surgery email address, hwicb.stjohnshousesurgery@nhs.net.
