  1. Review titled Fantastic care and above and beyond service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by D Bryan - Posted on 07 September 2022

My son who suffers with anxiety going to the GP was met by the advanced nurse practitioner, who immediately put my son at ease with her kind and caring reassurances. She took the time to listen and understand and offer so much help. Fantastic care today and my son had such a positive experience. Not enough thanks is given to our wonderful NHS and I wanted to say a massive thank you!

  2. Review titled Frustrations with online appointment booking

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 26 August 2022

For a number of months now I have had problems accessing the online booking system. It will only offer me BP/Bloods, Warfarin clinic or Nurse clinic. Absolutely no GP slots today all the way up to mid-November. GP slots are not an option on the drop-down "session" list. Called today and was told there couldn't be an issue as other people are booking slots. I have tried everything (including the recommended getting up in the middle of the night to log on) and it still only offers the nurse slots. I have tried this multiple times since Easter so there is obviously an issue. I asked who I should contact about this and was told "I don't know, I can't help" - yet I set this up in the practice! Extremely frustrating as I then have to spend hours on the phone (when the recorded message asks you to book online if possible) when, as the receptionist kept telling me, "other people are managing to book online". Tried to register on the Rotherham health app but as I don't have photo ID I need three pieces of information from my existing online account (systmonline) - but only two (organisation code and account ID, not linkage key) are available. Aarghh! I just want someone to listen to me and help sort this out as it will surely save a lot of time for everyone (and free up your phone line for other people).

Dear Anonymous, Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately the apps are not ours and as such we are not in control of how they are created and set up. If your query is with the Rotherham Health App you need to raise a support ticket to them https://rotherhamhealthapp.com/support_tickets/new We have more appointments available online than any other practice in Rotherham, however unfortunately the demand is at an all time high for appointments, hence the reason why you probably aren't able to book. Contractually we only need to have non triaged appointments online so as to ensure appointments aren't booked inappropriately. Our telephone calls are answered in under 10 minutes should you wish to call us instead. There are other clinical appointments available in local practices during evenings and weekends also. If you do sign up to the Rotherham Health App you will be able to access these. Kind regards, Sarah Practice Manager

  3. Review titled Poor response to painful distress

Rated 1 star out of 5

by ALAN GILBY - Posted on 12 October 2022

There is a real problem with the NHS and/or Swallownest Health centre. They left a message on the answerphone late yesterday to phone and make an appointment for a knee injection. I managed to get through today, eventually, to be told all the slots had gone. Clearly, it was my fault of not answering the phone when they rang that I missed the opportunity. Presumably people who work are never able to answer the phone so never get treated. I was offered an appointment for 29 November as the first available slot. The “lady” on the phone was arrogant, unsympathetic, and extremely uncaring. You can see why they have been put into “special measures” The context of this is I first raised the issue with the GP in mid-August, and it has taken this long to get To being offered some treatment. I have had the problem since around June, but I had other, potentially Life-threatening health issues, which meant I put this as a lower priority. I clearly find it difficult to comprehend how it can take so long to organise a 30 second injection.

Dear Mr Gilby, Many thanks for your email and your NHS Choices Review which is the same. It would help us and you if you would work with us in following our processes correctly before adding to any public forums. Please find a copy of our leaflet attached. The information can also be found on our website. In response to your complaint, we operate Minor Operations/Joint Injection Clinics which we sign up to as a practice as extra non-core contract work. These can be undertaken with us rather than a referral to a hospital. Issues are discussed during a routine appointment where if approved for surgery the patient is added to a waiting list, and then a further appointment is made for the required surgery. We have one GP who is trained to do this. Others aren’t and don’t wish to be. We have either a morning or afternoon clinic on our clinical system rota at the GP’s request. The frequency is either monthly or twice monthly, dependent upon availability and workload. They are undertaken in a clinic setting for the following reasons:- 1. To comply with infection control and avoiding patients with infections being in the GP’s room around the time of joint injection to lower the risk of joint infection after the procedure. 2. To allow more injections to be undertaken within a given time as the room needs a different set up. It really should be a 20-minute appointment for each joint, but it is currently 10 minutes. 3. Focusing purely on injections allows the GP to concentrate better so as not to switch from one mindset to another. 4. It helps clearly identify injection slots so they are for the sole use of injection appts rather than general GP appts, which also should help us to track how many have been done. We can try to match more easily the number of appointments being offered versus the demand. I hope this helps you to understand a little more with regards to the demands and workload in GP practices. Please also note that we have not been put under ‘special measures.’ Please refer to our website in terms of defamatory statements made with regards to us - https://swallownesthealthcentre.co.uk/ Please note that our calls are recorded. Should you wish to contact me further to discuss, please call us on 0114 4333888. Kind Regards, Miss Sarah Buckley Practice Manager

  4. Review titled Review booking of appointments

Rated 2 stars out of 5

There should be an update / review of booking of appointments. It has little flexibility and patients are advised to call every morning at 8am to see if there are any appointments available I was told there would be no appointments available for the next 20 days! Was given different information when decided to call at the centre. This practice used to be excellent. The new appointment system is obviously very frustrating not working satisfactorily for patients and probably staff

Thank you Anonymous for taking the time to leave a review. It is very difficult to respond to your review without full information/evidence, including dates/times etc. But I will respond best I can based on the little information that you have provided. If your post relates to the day you posted, we have staff off on holiday, but we also have unexpected absence due to sickness. Demand is at an all time high nationally as you may be aware, and the issues are not solely related to this practice. There are fewer GP's nationally due to retirement and also leaving the profession. People are living longer and have far more complex health issues these days. Much of which is due to their lifestyle choices. There are many additional services that our Patient Service Advisors offer based on information that patients provide. We rely on patients communicating effectively to us so that we can provide an appointment for the most appropriate service (which is often not a GP). Please take the time to check out our website and newsletters which have an abundance of information for you. Additional appointments are also available in local health centres that can be booked via The Rotherham Health App - please register to book. Kind regards, Sarah Buckley Practice Manager

  5. Review titled Cannot fault them

Rated 4 stars out of 5

Always hear bad complaints about the surgery so thought I’d leave a review. I’ve been with the surgery around three years now and never had a problem trying to get to see a gp or nurse. This week I rang as my daughter was ill and was seen by a gp within 30 minutes who then referred us straight to the hospital so I didn’t need to go and wait in a&e with my poorly baby. Brilliant doctor, got my baby the medical attention she needed.

  6. Review titled Unfit practice

Refuse to give you life saving medication! I needed a blue asthma spray, someone changed my repeat prescription from monthly to 3 monthly without my knowledge, I struggled to breath for nearly 2 months as they point blank refused! I nearly had an Asthma attack, I pay for my prescriptions I shouldn’t be refused my medication when I need it! I’m moving practices because they lie to you, say you’ve got an appointment with a GP and book you in with a nurse instead and when you go to reception to ask for a GP appointment they tell you there’s none and to ring 8 am Monday I’ve been doing that for 5 days and still no appointments

  7. Review titled Poor service to book a non urgent but essential appointment

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Mick - Posted on 27 July 2022

Dear Practice Manager and GP Senior Partner, I have read your latest CQC report from 2021 and as of July 2022 I do not see any improvement regarding booking of appointments in July 22. I appreciate the constraints of Covid but these are now largely passed. Why should a patient who requires a follow up or non urgent appointment queue at 8am in the morning on the telephone with those who require an urgent appointment and find they are cut off because the queue has reached its maximum of 15 callers. Equally a release of only 2 weeks appointments is ridiculous. You advise using the app but this makes the assumption that all your patients are happy with this form of communication system. I tried this yesterday and no appointments available .Personally this is ageist in my view and needs to be acknowledged as not appropriate to all even someone who is 64. Before the pandemic I would have highly rated the practice management but no longer but I have no choice to go elsewhere so I am stuck. Eventually I have got an appointment after two calls at 8am on two days and trying on the app and then coming into the practice this morning and finding the receptionist can book an appointment for next week to review my skin condition. Interestingly there was only two people in the waiting room at 9am this morning. Please explain what is happening. Thanks, Sarah
