  1. Review titled Minimal contact

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 10 October 2023

Rang surgery re covid with asthma symptoms, told noone could speak for min 2 days. Told to ring 119. 119 insisted they only arrange appts. Told to ring 111. Their response was that I would get a call back from my surgery within an hr. 2 days later I found an email from the practice (do not have email on phone) with a link to patch platform - never heard about, unsure whether safe to click, which I eventually found very user unfriendly, with a line at the very bottom that the on call Dr suggested I go to a and e. It took most of my energy to make 3 phone calls that day, when my symptoms worsened that day, I contacted 111 again and got help.

Dear patient I'm sorry to hear how disappointed you are with your recent contact and attempts to get help from the Practice. Please be assured there are multiple ways to access the service, including telephone, walking into reception or submitting an online consultation request (patchs). I would be more than happy to investiage this matter further and provide you with a more in-depth response - so please call the surgery and provide some more information about this. Kind regards DS

  2. Review titled The worst practice.

Rated 1 star out of 5

Took my 1 year old daughter for a number of symptoms, left with no real answers as per usual. The doctor made a guess with the diagnosis, prescribed some antibiotics and sent us on our way. After she told us she couldn’t do a urine sample, only to receive a phone call an hour later saying they could do one and asked us to return to the surgery. On our return we were then told they didn’t in fact have the equipment to get a sample from a one year old and to take the antibiotics after all. It feels like nobody really communicates, doctors just guess which then leaves me feeling very doubtful whether we’ve actually received the right treatment. This isn’t the first time I’ve left the surgery with no real answers.

Dear patient I'm sorry to hear about yourr recent experience. We would always expect to see a child under 5 on the same or next day. The clinicians at the Practice are bound to follow clinical guidance and pathways and I'm sorry you feel let down by us this time. I would encourage you to call and speak to a member of the team so we can investigate this matter for you and provide you with some more information about the same. We can also arrange another appointment for your child, if that would be helpful. Kind regards DS

  6. Review titled no appointment registered

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Pauline Morgan - Posted on 16 October 2023

Telephone appointments not registered with reception. I got a text re a appointment. Arrived at surgery queued to register with reception ( the booking screen was out of order) called to reception my details were given to receptionist who informed me that I had no appointment. Upon showing her my phone, which stated I had an app on that day she said sorry you have no app booked. I was devastated and upset, I needed some advice over a long ongoing bowel trouble which had been going on since June. So I went home thankfully I arrived by car, so the journey home was easy, good forbid if I had to rely on public services. Who ever is in charge of forwarding phone appointments should be more careful and professional. This needs looking into, for further mobile appointments. I am now unsure weather to trust any messages on my phone. Please sort this out, and save unnecessary worry and trauma.

  7. Review titled Poor communication

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 23 November 2023

Went to the GP and was sent for a full blood test Luckily, I have the NHS app and saw the results on there myself because no one has called me although it says patient informed on the app which I certainly haven’t been I was recalled for blood tests which I found out on the app and had to make a phone call about it Again, I got the results, which said recall again I was sent an appointment on patches I turned upon the day to be told it was a telephone appointment. When I said it doesn’t say that on the app she said I’ll see what I can do sit down I offered to go and sit in the car for the telephone appointment because I did not want to miss it The nurse I saw went through one of my issues, but then told me about another that I should’ve been made aware of and the GP should’ve spoken to me I was sent away to do a urine test and then book an appointment with the GP The results came back on the app yet again no phone call so I called to make the appointment and was told by the receptionist she needed to look into it and would call me back back that day Three days later, no call I called again, and spoke to a different receptionist who told me all my results were clear to which I said no, they aren’t She put me on hold and then came back and reeled off all the things that were wrong with me, which I had no clue about, and then she said do you want to speak to somebody about it!!!!! I said I need to speak to the GP and she gave me a telephone appointment over a week later that turned out to be with a nurse who did not call I now have a diagnosis that I can read up on online, one of which is quite serious and I cannot get to speak to anyone at the GP surgery at all. I can tell from the support group I should be getting alot more input from my GP No wonder people are sat at home with anxiety and mental health issues. This is my first need for the GP in years and it’s been shocking I’m in the process of looking for a new surgery one where communication happens and I’m not sat here wondering what’s happening for weeks on end (5) I’m lucky I can use the app I dread to think how you would go on if you did not have that capability Still no call and no word from the GP or the doctor surgery whatsoever

  8. Review titled New patient

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Rebecca Harrison - Posted on 27 October 2023

Recently moved to the Grange from another general practice in the area and can’t believe the difference in the level of service. Registered online and all went through straightforward. I wanted an appt to review my medication so registered with the Patchs service, and a clinician called me back as arranged within two days, we discussed my concerns with my current medication regime and I have been referred to see a specialist. The Dr who called me back was knowledgeable, empathetic and made me feel better and more hopeful about living with my health condition after a 5 minute conversation, than I have in the past two years after endless appointments with my previous surgery. Excellent example of how to do patient care right. Thank you

  9. Review titled A helpful & caring practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Mr Ron Gibson - Posted on 21 October 2023

A blood sample was taken successfully at the first attempt when previously elsewhere there have been many failures to find a vein. I then needed a telephone appointment with my doctor & I noticed that yet again the receptionist showed a very helpful attitude…. Totally different to how things were a couple of years ago. My doctor had been too busy to get to ring me on the planned Friday afternoon but remarkably he rang me on Sunday morning & he was extremely helpful. All things considered I think this is a very helpful & caring practice.

  10. Review titled A Practice that seemingly does not care or respect patients

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Neil Ashton - Posted on 05 October 2023

I have waited for three telephone appointments over the past month, cancelling other appointments and meetings in order to be in a quiet, private place conducive to sensitive discussion. All three appointments were listed on the NHS app but not on a direct text. Indeed, if I had not checked the app I would not have known. One appointment was two hours late but did eventually ring, one I had to ring the Practice after waiting over three and a half hours and only then did a practitioner deign to ring me back. The last one which stated a time of 9 am did not happen at all. I waited, becoming increasingly anxious and agitated all day. I had clarified that the appointment was a telephone appointment with a pharmacist, manager and receptionist on three occasions prior to the day and was assured that it was a telephone appointment and not face-to-face. On checking the NHS app I am appalled to read that I did not attend! I am disgusted at the lack of care and respect for patient’s time. The reason for the appointments are never disclosed (plus, for instance, what the term ‘Blocked’ means next to an appointment) which is an additional stress and cause of anxiety; my blood pressure is high and is certainly not helped by the continuing problems with communication. Staff answer the telephone quite quickly, are friendly and try to help but the system does not work. For patients who do not use technology or think to look on the NHS app the system that is being used is useless.

Dear Neil Thank you for taking the time to leave a review and let us know about your recent experience. I'm sorry that we haven't met your expectations this time and I'm sure we can do better. There is a requirement for practices to list their workload on appointment lists and this is being centrally monitored and reported by NHS England. Unfortunately, our listing of "appointments" in the system can cause some confusion for patients and the team will review how we do this going forward. Kind regards DS
