  1. Review titled appointment system lacks patient focus

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Bing Chuah - Posted on 10 March 2025

I walked into the medical centre at about 4:30 pm to make an appointment and was told to come back the following morning. I asked could I not be given a next available time slot be it two, three, four or even five weeks ahead? The receptionist’s abrupt answer was repeatedly: “No”, “Come back tomorrow morning.” I asked why couldn’t I just be given the next available time slot. She was insistent that I should return tomorrow morning and would not budge nor explain why Victoria Medical Centre operates such a rigid appointment system that disregards patient needs! I understand from the NHS website: “ A new NHS contract that came into force in April 2023 means that GP staff have to let patients book consultations in advance or refer them to other services, such as a pharmacist, rather than tell them to call back later or the next day……. Currently, guidelines state that if a patient requires emergency care, they should be given an appointment on the same day. If it is not, appointments, either face-to-face or via a video call, should be offered within 2 weeks.” I do not think the appointment system of Victoria Medical Centre is aligned with the NHS Rules.

  2. Review titled Professional and quick

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Requested callback for suspected kidney infection. Was called very promptly and assessed over phone in extremely thorough and helpful manner. Was advised to attend A&E, and the doctor provided (via text) a very detailed letter that helped A&E staff assess my situation and get me treated. As a result a bad condition was prevented from becoming any more serious. Was very grateful to GP because when I initially called I was out of London. VMC is an extremely good central London practise. I have been a patient for many years. They are also fortunate in having some smart people working at reception.

  3. Review titled Great practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I’ve had two very positive experiences over the last month. The first involved a strange mole/bump on my back which was treated remotely. The receptionist sent me a link to which I could send a photo of the growth. A doctor responded within minutes and prescribed a cream which cleared up the problem quickly. The second involved tripping while running last week and cutting open my chin. A doctor very kindly fitted me into their afternoon minor surgery list. They stitched up the wound and it appears to be healing well. The stitches are due to come out on in one week.

Thank you for helping me with my elderly father and arranging an appointment quickly and also to be reviewed with a doctor, also for sorting out his medication into a dosset box so it's easier for him to manage. The time and effort to arrange the appointment to suit him was very helpful.

  5. Review titled Worst gp I've had

Rated 1 star out of 5

Got booked for an urgent call to get a sick note due to my medical condition getting bad that I can not work. Universal credit only accepts them from a gp. Waited 1 hr before calling the practice to find out what's going on to find out its been cancelled, and rebooked for a month away. Seriously what is going on with this practice? I am in pain daily on treatments that help ease it so I can function but I still get severe pain and the medication isn't helping at this point. Receptionists are rude and show no care, gps skip assessment questionnaires that the refferal is then rejected because of it. No updates happen when a refferal has been rejected. Refferals not gone through to correct services or mistyped on patient records so symptoms or side effects aren't listed or conversations on concerns raised. Staff assuming abuse because I won't go to an appointment without my partner, who I am taking with me for support due to being previously dismissed and mistreated. Trying to book in an appointment for regular treatment via the reception is a nightmare to the point the nurse has started to book it themselves (thank you to that nurse I cannot praise her enough), as everytime I said a specific date as they have to happen every 28 days especially for the best result, to be told oh there's none available then explain suddenly there's one available. I don't know who manages this practice but it needs a serious look at. The online services don't work the majority of the time patient records are either wrong missing or incomplete you have no access to anything before you joining their gp. Highly would NOT recommend.

  7. Review titled Bad for children and terrible receptionist

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 14 August 2024

Unfortunately the quality and support is very poor, which is a concern when the patient is a child. Our observations if it helps: My daughter was misdiagnosed with chickenpox when she was 2 1/2 years old ny a gp who looked saw a few coldsores from a distance, googled the nhs website and without coming closer pronounced the diagnoses. (she subsequently did have the illness 12 months later). More recently, when asked for an emergency appointment for our toddler daughter, because of a swelling which appeared overnight, the receptionist was extremely unhelpful, showed no empathy or attempt to help. Instead referring to the policy - and dismissing question about alternative options. Btw, if you are trying to book an appointment, our experience has been that the reception does not open at 8 as advertised. Id ypu call just after 8, the call is finally picked up around 8.30-8.45 (whilst being 2nd in queue the entire time).

I just wanted to talk about my amazing first beautiful experience with one of the Nurses at Victoria medical centre. I have phobia and anxiety going into doctors and she was so kind and understanding of my situation when I explained to her and had turned my anxiety into a heart warming experience, thank you for having such a beautiful kind hearted and professional person working at your centre, she was so amazing that i believe she is worthy of more than just this review. I can only say a big thank you to nurse M P

I made three calls to book an appointment for my mother who is suffering and every call they kept me waiting for more than half a minute and in the end they hung up without answering. Really shameful.
