After being with this practice over 40 years I have never been so disgusted with the uncaring attitude of the Receptionists and gps. They are supposed to provide a service a d in their job care! I had a phone appointment - no time given just anytime in the day - I explained I will be in a classroom at work will they try if I missed a call. I was assured they would try several times. I missed the call and could not hear/understand the message left. I rang back and explained this and asked for a call back as I didn't know what the gp had said. No call - surprise! I went in just after 4.30 and told not down for a call back the gp had rung and left a message. Despite my explanation that I had rung and said I couldn't hear the message and that although a prescription was to be issued, my request for it to be on repeat was ignored as was my request for it to be increased as my nerve pain had become worse. The receptionists were so uncaring, very quick to offer me a complaint form when I asked to see the practice manager (whom conveniently had just left) and refused to message the gp to ask if he could kindly ring me. What happened to providing a service and caring? So got to ring and be in a queue for at least half an hour or queue outside - again! Am disgusted.

Review titled Great mental health review
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Sarah Naylor - Posted on 16 October 2024
I felt quite anxious as it was my first mental health review since switching to this practice recently and I didn’t know what to expect, but I was made to feel really comfortable. Time was taken to listen to me properly, and I left feeling that it had been a really positive and worthwhile interaction. Thank you so much for your time and care.

Review titled No appointments
Rated 1 star out of 5

You never get appointments at this practice. I understand the NHS is currently strained but so are the individuals calling to book appointments! They keep saying respect our staff but the practice obviously needs to remind their receptionists to accord the same respect to patients. Their current attitude is disrespectful, unapologetic and lack empathy. I have been with this practice less than a year and I call at 8am but never get offered same day appointment. We are full to capacity is the usual response. Please can you explain the criteria for offering same day appointments? Trying again today, I have been on the line since 8am, number 2 on the queue. As I type this at 8:46, I am still in queue position 1, no one is answering the call.

Review titled No appointments

It is impossible to get appointments. I get that the NHS is under pressure but if you phone in at 8am no one answers. I have waited on the phone for 45mins in queue position 4. I went in to book a future appointment and was told that I need to come in at 8am to book one. It seems a bit bizarre that to book an appointment they don’t use the telephone but require you to come into the surgery. What a huge waste of my time! Their appointment system doesn’t help those who need to be at work at 8am or those without transport. The receptionist I dealt with could do with some training as her manner of communication was poor and lacked empathy.

Review titled Unprofessional attitude of the receptionist
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 25 June 2024
Hello, I called on the 25th of June 2024 around 14:30 the practice to get an appointment for my little one. This is not the first I don’t get an appointment even though the matter is urgent. instead I have bee asked to see a GP in the nearest walk in center or an A&E and not to call the 111 since they will redirect me again to the practice. The receptionist today treated me in a disrespectful and unprofessional manner making me feel like the most un responsible parent ever. The language used in the call was quite harsh, at some point even rude. Never felt like this with a customer service.

Review titled Insensitive receptionist
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 20 June 2024
I visited this morning to have my babies 3rd set of vaccinations. I was 5 minutes late due to having to walk a distance because there was no parking spaces close by. The receptionist told me that I may not be seen because I was late. 5 minutes?!? Because of something out of my control. I cannot believe that a receptionist working at a doctor’s surgery would have such insensitivity. As a new mum with a small baby trying her best, it was massively stressful hearing that I might not be able to have her vaccines done. With so much mental health focus at the moment, was this stress really necessary? The best part was, the nurse was still with the previous patient so it’s not like she had to wait for us to get there. Was it so hard for the receptionist to reword her statement and say it’s okay they’re running a bit late anyway. Even to offer a solution, like we’ll squeeze you in, but nothing. We were seen 2 minutes later.. because there was no issue with me being late whatsoever. As someone who has previously been messed about by this surgery having appointments cancelled with no warning or explanation, I think being 5 minutes late is acceptable. Even hospitals allow this grace, not this ridiculous receptionist though. I think she needs a little retraining on how to talk to people, especially working in a job like this.

Review titled Don’t bother trying to call
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 07 May 2024
My babies 12 week vaccinations were cancelled even after being booked in for over 4 weeks. Called several times and waited a ridiculous amount of time in the queue to finally book it in for a second time two weeks later. Fast forward a week and this has been cancelled again. No explanation, no rescheduled appointment, nothing. I have been trying to call for 2 hours and get the same ‘due to exceptionally high call volumes’ message every single time. How is anyone meant to ever be seen if they can’t even get through to talk to someone?

Review titled Awful, or rather no service
Rated 1 star out of 5

I've been trying to book an appointment with a doctor for my son and myself for the last two weeks without any luck. Even though my 9yo son was heavily bleeding from his nose for a week, all they could do is to offer him a "routine appointment" in 3 weeks time! I agree with other reviews which say that getting through the phone in the morning is generally next to impossible. Even though I managed to get through the phone eventually on the occasions, every I was told that, regardless of an issue (we had 4 different reasons to see the doctor) there is no doctor that can see my son or myself and we should just go to a walk-in centre instead! Today I thought that finally I will get an appointment as I managed to get through on the 1st call at 8am and I was 4th in the queue. to my surprise (or not?) they said that they do not have any appointments for today, that they are all gone! How is that possible? As a "justification", they said that this is because they are "a very busy surgery with 15,000 patients" (yes, fifteen thousand) but this NHS site states that they're still accepting new patients! Why are new patients being accepted if you cannot handle what you have already? Please note that according to the 2011 census Hucknall has a population of 30,000 so it seems that something is not right at this surgery, or we should not be surprised that it's next to impossible to get an appointment. I think that they pick and choose who they will give an appointment on the day as it's really hard to believe that there is no appointments left if you're 4th in a queue at 8am. I also agree with other comments that there is no continuity with the doctors. Last time I was seen for 1 issue by 3 different doctors, where each doctor had their own ideas what the issue is and how to treat it. Given my experience over the last 2 weeks I believe that "routine appointments" in 3 weeks time is the only thing that they can offer currently to the patients. Another issue at this surgery is lack of information and misinformation - depending on who you talk to they will tell you different things, often contradictory. For example I was told that you must call to get an appointment, but today I was told that you can also queue at the door to get an appointment, about which I asked explicitly previously as my gut feel was that this would be more effective that trying to get through the "We're sorry but we're extremely busy today" phone call. Another issue is favouring mothers over fathers - they ask me/father with full parental rights if the mother knows and gave permission for the child to be seen/treated! I tried to contact the leading doctor who manages the surgery about this but it's very difficult and the reception cannot help as they "don't manage the lead diary" Seems that this surgery is very, very disorganised. The surgery used to be good but I definitely cannot recommend it in 2024 and I will change it after they see us for the "routine appointment" in 3 weeks
