Review titled The worst experience
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Alex - Posted on 20 August 2024
I have been waiting to go on a medication for 2 years. When I finally got an appointment I was told that I was now in the system and will be taken care of. I have experienced having an appointment being cancelled without my knowledge, so I showed up only to be told I would have to wait another 4 months. I have dealt with different doctors telling me different things (e.g. one doctor sending me home with documents that should have been discussed during the appointment). I have had to take 4 blood tests (despite a phobia), three of them becoming invalid due to not being able to get an appointment before they expired. The only way I have received any information and help is by repeatedly showing up to the hospital and waiting to speak to someone in person (often at great inconvenience to myself). I have clearly been lost in the system as when querying some confusing information received in the post regarding an summary of a consultation for ages ago I was told I was scheduled to be waiting for an appointment to fill out forms that I had already done. This is concerning as the hospital had clearly lost these forms that I had previously filled out - yet I am meant to trust them? I now have finally been given my medicine only to be told that I cannot now take it as my blood test came back with too high of a liver function. This is something that I could have known years ago due to have taken 4 tests prior for no reason as no doctor could see me. I am now being told that due to my high liver function I may not be able to even take the medication. This has been the most stressful and exhausting experiences and I do not feel supported or cared about by Amersham hospital in any way. I feel completely helpless and disheartened by the whole experience and my trust that any thing will be done without me showing up and begging for answers is at an all time low.

Review titled Hospital guide needed!
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 10 June 2024
I went into the hospital from the Whielden St entrance expecting to find directions to the Dermatology dept on a site map- it wasn't listed and there is no Reception where you can speak to a person. A member of staff from another dept came along and they didn't know either but found a porter who gave directions to the dept on the 2nd floor - a maze of corridors to navigate! Leaving the lift there is still no sign for Dermatology as you have to go outside to a separate building! Very few people in the waiting area so I was seen before my appointment time by a trainee doctor under supervision whose English I struggled to understand. After a few questions and couple of checks I was the sent to the Medical Photography dept where a few photos were taken before I was able to go home. I have been given no information about the timescale for another appointment apart from a general leaflet about my problem. I hope my next visit will be an improvement on today's experience!

Review titled Good hospital - but no parking
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Jeremy Keen - Posted on 16 May 2024
Came for an X-ray this morning and allowed plenty of time. Arrived to find queues of people desperate to get a parking space but unable to do so, because there just isn’t enough capacity. I had to park ‘illegally’ or risk missing my appointment, and I’m sure many others found themselves in the same predicament. It seems to me that there are more parking spaces for staff than for patients at this hospital. Together with the fact that the building of the new extension has been going on for years with hardly any apparent progress, I am forced to conclude that the management of this lovely hospital is incompetent and wasteful of public money.

Review titled Excellent treatment
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Keith Hoffmeister - Posted on 17 April 2024
I underwent skin surgery at the Amersham Hospital on April 16th. From the moment I arrived and right through the treatment I was treated with such care, reassurance and friendliness that I felt quite relaxed about the whole procedure. The staff were very efficient and kept me informed throughout the treatment. What could have been fairly traumatic was almost a pleasure! I particularly liked the use of soft music playing in the background to create a relaxed atmosphere. I would like to record my sincere thanks for such excellent treatment.

Review titled Caring
Rated 5 stars out of 5

This was a second opinion after Milton Keynes hospital where I was in and out of the consultation room, no exaggeration in less than 1 min. I felt like a number on a conveyor in and out no questions and no personal interaction. Amersham however I was asked family history, historic uv exposure, the consultant viewed more than 1 mole in fact 5 or 6 seen the mole I was concerned about was less concerning than another not considered by myself.. I would like to say thank you to my consultant seen on the 27/3/24 at 10.30 am. My mother is currently fighting cancer of the peritoneal and omentum which although not related was seen initially for a skin Lesion. Thank you I feel reassured and valued as a patient. I work for the NHS and am proud to do so.

Review titled Superb treatment
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Terry K - Posted on 10 February 2024
Attended the Dermatology Dept. at Amersham Hospital in November for the removal of cancerous scalp skin lesion and have just been discharged after 20 odd visits for dressing changes. At the time of my initial consultation everything was explained carefully and during my visits I have found all the staff-reception, doctors and nurses- to be warm, welcoming and very professional. I was seen within a few minutes of my allotted appointment time on all occasions. I have absolutely no complaints about any aspect of my treatment. Thank you all. Brilliant!

Review titled A missed appointment
by Henryzx24 - Posted on 23 January 2024
I was given an appointment for a chest X-ray at Stoke Mandeville hospital after waiting over a month for any information about an appointment. When I got my revised appointment and time for Amersham hospital, I was away in the Lake District. On the email telling me of the changes of venue and date, there was a box asking me if I could attend but, because I was not in the area and was not prepared to leave the next day to return to Amersham hospital, wherever that is, I pressed the button saying I would not be able to attend. I am sorry for any inconvenience, but I did reply to your email.

Review titled Treated with great warmth, interest and humour
by Archie715 - Posted on 01 September 2023
Saw a consultant who suggested a fairly quickly removal of a skin lesion After seeing the consultant I had a phone call a day later suggesting if I could they had a slot the very next day. I turned up and saw a charming nurse & surgeon who explained who would do the surgery, how they would do the surgery, and how to take care of the wound. What else would they do, you might say. Well, it was the way they did it. With warmth, with interest and with humour. No mountains, no molehills but lots of engagement from reception to the surgery.
