  1. Review titled Positive Overall

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 28 December 2024

I had my baby here in November and found the experience to be positive overall. I felt well looked after from my booking appointment, right up to giving birth. For the most part, the midwives were lovely and very helpful. Even having to have an emergency c-section, the midwives that I had that morning were amazing and me and my partner felt very calm in what was a stressful situation. The team in surgery were lovely, I felt like I was in the best hands and they were very thorough and explained the process to me, I had a really positive experience despite the circumstances. The only downside was after giving birth, some of the midwives on the recovery ward were not very understanding. On one occasion, my mum was helping me feed my baby as I was finding it difficult to lift him (he was almost 10lbs and I’d had surgery) - the midwife on the recovery ward abruptly told my to she needed leave despite this, there were no niceties. We understood there were rules in place but at this point all of the other bays were empty. The care at this point of recovery was poor and I was left in a gown that I’d had an epidural in (the evening before) + I’d had a c-section in. It was in an awful state and none of the midwives offered me a clean one, thankfully I was moved and could later shower and change myself. I hadn’t ate in 36 hours and no one offered me anything to eat or drink until my partner asked. We understand everyone is busy but all of the other bays on the ward were empty. I had my own room that I was moved to and my partner could stay (very grateful for this). I had a two day stay due to complications and although most of the midwives were lovely, some spoke down to my partner / myself when we would ask questions. There are definitely some areas of care that need improvement, I know they are understaffed but some basic needs I.e a clean gown, bedsheets that were not met or offered. I also felt like there was not a lot of communication during handovers, I’d lost a lot of blood during surgery and became anaemic. There were symptoms of this that showed up during all of my observations and anyone new seeing to me had no idea and seemed very panicked. I was waiting on an iron infusion for a long time and couldn’t go home until I’d had this, I then found out that I needed not one but two of these. The midwife who set up my infusion thought I had already had one (but I hadn’t). It wasn’t a big deal and I went back a week after being discharged. Overall me and baby were well looked after, we understand staffing can be stretched to say the least but we did feel like on some occasions it was down to lack of empathy, or just rudeness. The aftercare was great though, I called a few times over various issues and always got to speak to a midwife on the phone. I would recommend the hospital to a friend as these issues can happen anywhere in the current climate.

I attended an appointment, everything was absolutely awful. Waited a long time to be seen. Staff disinterested. Broken. Impossible to park. Avoid.

36 hours in a&e. 24 of which were spent on the floor as no beds or trolleys available and unable to sit due to severe back pain. Following admission- Unable to sleep due to constant noise from ringing bells and some severely agitated and screaming patients. No exercise given so far and little check on eating properly

My husband was taken to A and E by ambulance last night with a dislocated shoulder. From the start of the process to the end we could not fault your staff. They were all very kind with a lot of compassion. Thank you to you all during a stressful time.

  6. Review titled Horrendous wait

Rated 1 star out of 5

Attended A&E with my son who recovered from heart failure, now has heart block and is waiting to find out if he needs a pacemaker. We were told if he feels dizzy, faint or has chest pains to go straight to A&E. We called 111 last night and they advised an ambulance, but we live close so said we would drive. We arrived just before midnight last night and are still here at 8am. We have been told at least another 2 hour wait. He had 3 abnormal ECGs and we are still sat here! It's simply unacceptable. We have spent the entire night watching police and hospital staff dealing with drunks and drug addicts, who quite frankly waste everyone's time and then leave anyway! I simply cannot understand how people with vomiting bugs, drunk or whiplash can be seen before someone with a history of heart problems comparing of chest pains, breathlessness and feeling faint! Seems like if you kick off enough or get brought in by the police you are seen first, it's an absolute disgrace!

  7. Review titled Some uncaring staff

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Gill Jordan - Posted on 08 September 2024

My 93 year old mum was admitted to urgent care due to a C.Difficile infection. She did receive adequate care and received appropriate treatment. However, some of the staff were indifferent and occasionally unkind. Each day we had as visitors to ask for her water jug to be filled. On one occasion 3 staff were looking at photos on a mobile phone. I had to wait until they had finished laughing and joking before I was even noticed. I then asked politely for water. Shouldn’t there be a daily routine for this? If we hadn’t asked, mum would probably have forgotten to drink especially as her jug was nearly always empty at visiting time. (The phone was then quickly and sheepishly slipped into the pocket of a member of staff.) On another occasion my mum was told sarkily ( not in a jokey fashion) by a member of staff that she would not be provided with either tissues or toilet paper and that they had to be paid for. Mum does not have dementia but believed what she was told and became anxious. Many staff were caring and kind but surely this low level mean behaviour shouldn’t be tolerated especially when patients are vulnerable. I was anxious about my elderly mum and felt that she could have been treated at times with a little more respect.

  8. Review titled First class service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I had to take my adult son to A&E on a Saturday night when he was unwell 3 weeks ago. I would like to express my thanks to all the staff in A&E, the GP out of hours service and Ward 17 for their prompt treatment and excellent care. After all the recent criticism and complaints about the NHS and particularly A&E , we were very impressed at the level of service from all the staff who we came into contact with. Thank you and well done Arrowe Park. My son has made a good recovery and is now back at work.

  9. Review titled Fabulous professional and friendly staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Nigel Leslie - Posted on 16 August 2024

5***** After a 3 week stay in Intensive Care, I was so pleased with standards of the nursing who cared for me. Brilliant, professional, calm, friendly, brilliant sense of humour. They were as a team like super nurses. A different breed. Constantly felt in safe hand. Recovered well and quickly due to this level of care.
