  1. Review titled Horrendous wait

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 07 August 2024

Attended A&E with my son who recovered from heart failure, now has heart block and is waiting to find out if he needs a pacemaker. We were told if he feels dizzy, faint or has chest pains to go straight to A&E. We called 111 last night and they advised an ambulance, but we live close so said we would drive. We arrived just before midnight last night and are still here at 8am. We have been told at least another 2 hour wait. He had 3 abnormal ECGs and we are still sat here! It's simply unacceptable. We have spent the entire night watching police and hospital staff dealing with drunks and drug addicts, who quite frankly waste everyone's time and then leave anyway! I simply cannot understand how people with vomiting bugs, drunk or whiplash can be seen before someone with a history of heart problems comparing of chest pains, breathlessness and feeling faint! Seems like if you kick off enough or get brought in by the police you are seen first, it's an absolute disgrace!

  2. Review titled First class service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I had to take my adult son to A&E on a Saturday night when he was unwell 3 weeks ago. I would like to express my thanks to all the staff in A&E, the GP out of hours service and Ward 17 for their prompt treatment and excellent care. After all the recent criticism and complaints about the NHS and particularly A&E , we were very impressed at the level of service from all the staff who we came into contact with. Thank you and well done Arrowe Park. My son has made a good recovery and is now back at work.

  3. Review titled Fabulous professional and friendly staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

5***** After a 3 week stay in Intensive Care, I was so pleased with standards of the nursing who cared for me. Brilliant, professional, calm, friendly, brilliant sense of humour. They were as a team like super nurses. A different breed. Constantly felt in safe hand. Recovered well and quickly due to this level of care.

  5. Review titled Discharged but not told

Rated 2 stars out of 5

Arrived at 6am with a suspected dislocation of the finger. Triaged within 15 mins and sent for xray. Called in at 9:30am and confirmed the dislocation. The finger is manipulated back into place. Great! Then told another xray is needed and that after that they will neighbour strap the fingers. So back to xray we go. It's now 9:45. Waited and waited and eventually at 3:45 6hours later decided to self discharge without the strapping and if needs be just buy some strapping. Presuming at this point nothing major has shown up on xray number 2. Approach the reception desk to tell them about the decision to self discharge only to find out that my name isn't on their system as a live patient. No actually at some point during the day I was discharged. No one told me at any point. I didn't even get an apology or told when it happened as apparently they don't have that information. Prior to today I've never had a bad experience with this hospital but this has left a bad taste in my mouth. I understand the pressure they are under as the waiting room was bursting at the seams. I know I wasn't the only one that happened to as I heard a similar conversation behind me earlier but thought surely not. I know the doctors and nurses were working hard I would have just expected to have been told when they discharged me else I could have still been sitting there now waiting quietly not wanting to be one of those people who constantly asks how long until they get seen.

We were here today and sent straight to resus the new part within 10 mins due to my mum suffering a heart attack . They were absolutely lovely on there the staff explained everything to us in detail and made sure we were all ok . We can’t thank them enough for their fast help and super fast response when my mums blood pressure dropped extremely low and caused her to collapse. Thankyou for making an extremely hard day a lot easier

  7. Review titled A + E - long-term appalling. Unacceptable.

Rated 1 star out of 5

I have lived in Birkenhead all my life and the A + E section of Arrowe Park has consistently tarnished the good work on the hospital wards. Took my wife up who was waiting for 8 hours in agony (she collapsed to the floor after 3 hours). It was like a third world environment with such a long weight, no co-ordination and unhealthy warm air flowing through a packed room with many patients on the floor. A complete disgrace. Birkenhead deserves much better. I and others are taking action to hold those in charge to account as the lack of appropriate care in A + E aggravates illness and suffering. We will be seeing a high level investigation and investigations. This has gone on for too long at such an abysmal level. It is being run by the wrong people who need replacing. The investigation will be front page and followed up by a TV documentary. Not even 1 star. 0/5 for Accident and Emergency.

I needed a colonoscopy. I was made to feel comfortable. They explained the procedure carefully, making sure that I knew what was happening. Always checking that I was ok. I cannot fault their concern and dedication. Very pleased.

  10. Review titled Wait times unacceptable.

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 12 May 2024

I had a fall and damaged my wrist on Friday afternoon. Phoned NHS111, received a call back after 2 hours, and was advised to go to a&e. Presented myself about 7.30 pm. Was triaged and x-rayed within 15 minutes, but then had an 11 hour wait, all night, to be assigned a doctor and treated. The clinical care was excellent, and I am grateful for it, but I do feel the wait time is unacceptable. I appreciate the staff are hard working and doing their best, but a&e is clearly massively under-resourced. Furthermore, there were no facilities for food and drink bar vending machines, but I has been told by NHS not to anyway, in case I needed an operation. There was scant communication or support, save periodic proactive checks on my part with the receptionists. They were understanding and apologetic, but pretty much conceded this was the norm, despite NHS having 4 hour target. I was in a lot of pain, the seating are was excessively warm, and being a Friday, later on, several folk who had later come in were clearly under the influence of drink or drugs, and although not threatening, the atmosphere became somewhat unpleasant at times. I have o criticism of staff, and my clinical treatment was good, but the overall experience was quite poor and dehumanizing, and I felt my needs weren't well met.
