The consultant and her assistant made an undignified(!) experience as physically and emotionally comfortable as possible. They were both absolutely lovely, and I left feeling medically reassured, respected, and smiling! Thank you both x

Review titled 3 months!

Having a cardiac rhythm issue and being told the date of my Holter (24 hr) is in over 3 months is beyond incredible. It achieves zero. That’s pointless. I ll go to A&E.

Review titled Caring staff in a difficult situation
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 04 November 2024
I visited the A& E department in excruciating pain on the afternoon of 6th October. It was fairly busy and became increasingly so as time went on. In total I was there for 12 hours but announcements from time to time in the evening did advise about the volume of patients they were trying to deal with. A situation further east apparently had a knock on effect. It was a very uncomfortable time for me and I would have hoped to have been seen more quickly. However, when I was seen, I cannot praise the staff enough for their consideration and kindness. They apologised for the long wait, which they had no control over, and did everything they could to deal with my situation and to make me comfortable. The doctor should be particularly commended. I only know their first name began with a Z. There is much criticism these days of the NHS but I found that all the staff dealing with patients on my visit were doing the very best they could in difficult circumstances and should be commended for their hard work and care. They were wonderful and incredibly kind. Please thank them.

Review titled Poor experience
Rated 2 stars out of 5

My second visit to the early pregnancy unit led to a scan and a confirmation that I had miscarried. The lady scanning forgot to ask if I had my partner with me and whether I wanted him to be in the room. As a result , I had to bear the shock of the news alone. Next there was a very long wait to speak to a nurse. There were a few room changes as they were not quite sure which room was free for me to wait in. Finally after an hour a person arrived to speak who was in a robotic no mode throughout. She delivered the bad news again with a customary regret. For questions on being referred to a clinic for diagnosis as this was my 3rd recurrent miscarriage , about checking my thyroid levels and about getting a sick note, all questions and requests were outright rejected with curt sentence we don’t deal with all that. The meeting was only five minutes but it was made clear from the start that she had no time for me and needs to leave the room as soon as possible. I asked about possible infections as I have suffered from bacterial vaginosis before. She said that was not something they would treat because it’s not even an illness. If I feel I have an infection in my vagina due to remaining tissues, I should talk to my general physician. That last piece of information is surely incorrect as I have been treated with antibiotics for vaginal infection before. All in all, my experience was poor and I saw a lack of empathy or professionalism at every stage. Real shame. The centre had five or six patients other than me which did not feel overly busy for a large hospital.

8 hour wait for a torn bicep muscle, which worsened while waiting for treatment. Waiting area overcrowded with people who didn't need to be there. More of an occasional party atmosphere at times. Freezing cold waiting area, such that blankets were handed out on demand. Seen by polite helpful staff, who were working under mismanaged system in my opinion. Saw a lovely Doctor for 5 minutes, who provided me with a sling, and after Xray, was send home. An appointment was made to attend follow up at trauma and orthopaedic clinic in a week's time. The appointment was cancelled by the hospital yesterday, and rescheduled. I have worked in the NHS for 30 years and am now retired. The system is appalling. Very sad, exhausted and still in pain.

I am with my wife to give birth for more than 20 hours and no one took it into account with the birth , there were two nurses whose names I no longer remember and a midwife , who let her suffer for many hours .

Review titled Above and beyond
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Fared - Posted on 21 September 2024
I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to Dr s who is truly one of the rare gems you can find in the nhs. My wife experienced a severe anxiety attack, and Dr s went above and beyond to help her through it. His professionalism, calm demeanor, and kindness made all the difference during a very stressful time. Dr. S not only addressed her physical symptoms but also took the time to make her feel safe, listened to, and reassured. His attentiveness and compassionate approach truly helped her feel better, and we are incredibly grateful for his support. What makes this even more remarkable is that he was working the night shift—working late hours while still maintaining such a high level of care and dedication. It’s clear that Dr s is someone who truly cares about his patients, and we feel lucky to have had him looking after my wife. He is a true hero, and we cannot thank him enough for all that he did. Dr efforts made a world of difference to us, and we are deeply appreciative of his expertise and support.

Review titled Organizational Failures and Patient Neglect
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Dorna - Posted on 06 August 2024
The organization at Barnet Hospital's delivery suite has been quite frustrating. About a month ago, they scheduled my C-section for August 5th, but then they changed it to August 6th. I was instructed to fast from midnight and call the hospital at 6 a.m. to find out when to come in. When I called at 6, they asked me to call back at 9 a.m. At 9, they said they would call me back, but I still haven't heard from them. It's very upsetting that they can't organize a proper schedule, leaving a pregnant woman starving and in pain.

Dear Dorna, we're very sorry to read that you haven't heard back from the team about your c-section and understand that you are fasting for this. As there is a moderation process for comments and replies on this website, it is unlikely you will see this reply before you have your c-section, so instead we recommend contacting our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS), to discuss the experience you have had further, when it is convenient for you. In the meantime, we have forwarded your comment to management so they are aware of your experience. PALS can be contacted by email at bcfpals@nhs.net or telephone on 0208 216 4924. Our apologies again and we send you our best wishes, the Barnet patient experience team.

Review titled Very grateful
Rated 5 stars out of 5

We were treated at A&E on Sunday night, for my 14 year old son who was in a lot of pain - due to suspected appendicitis. The nursing stuff were very polite and attentive. The doctor who examined our son was very thorough and recommended a full range of blood tests. The blood results were ready within two hours, shortly after which we were seen by a couple of surgeons - all this at 4am in the morning. Our son was then swiftly admitted to the Children's ward (Galaxy) where he received further care - more assessments, ultrasound scans and medication. The nursing staff were attentive, polite and kind. All the doctors we saw were very thorough and we were re-assured at all times of what was happening and the available treatment. We appreciate how busy NHS hospitals are and were somewhat dreading the experience, particularly as it was middle of the night and could see that the A&E department were busy. We were however pleasantly surprised and wanted to share our positive experience. We are incredibly grateful to the nursing staff & the doctors at the A&E and Children's Galaxy departments, the lab technicians who turned around the blood results so quickly and the ultrasound imaging specialists. Amazing hospital and staff. Thank you!

Review titled Chaotic A & E

by Pat Ruocco - Posted on 14 August 2024
Visited A & E two days ago with patient delirious with 10/10 stomach pain as unable to get ambulance for at least hour. No stretcher, no bed, no pain relief,no doctor for 6 hours! Struggling to keep patient conscious eventually had to leave crowded A & E after 2 hours as evidently unable to cope. Incidentally on arrival there were 4 ambulances and crews sitting around just waiting!
