Review titled Examplary practice
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Martin Blain - Posted on 28 August 2023
Visited on bank holiday Monday. Expected short staff, long queues. Instead we were seen really quickly, whisked around various departments and looked after all the time. I attended with one of my children who had a fracture. Had a couple of consultations, two x-rays and a cast. A little over two hours in total which is as good as any private facility. The stuff were highly professional and so friendly, putting my child at ease. I would like to thank all of those staff who were working on the bank holiday with good cheer. Facilities clean and well maintained.

Review titled A and E Nightmare!
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 17 August 2023
Arrived at A and E with my very elderly mother at 7.30pm after calling her GP and then 111. She was triaged by a lovely nurse and then we waited!!! Finally after two hours they took bloods, which we were then told would be ready in one hour. Two and a half hours later now 1am I asked what was happening with the results to be told that was confidential! When I pointed out that telling me if they were back or not had nothing to do with confidentially I was told yes they had them. I asked how long for them to share them and was advised by a nurse at least another 4 hours!! My nearly 90 year old mother was exhausted so we left having been told we could call her GP in the morning for the results. An absolute shambles. If your results are back you should expect to receive them in a realistic time scale. This would free up the waiting area. I miss the old Barnet hospital A and E where you were seen, given a cubicle, treated and sent home. This new in and out of the waiting room, (playing musical chairs), is beyond ridiculous.

Dear reviewer, we're sorry to read that your mother had a long wait in our emergency department recently. We note that there was a wait for blood tests, that results took longer to return that you were advised and that you were then advised it would be a further four hours to learn of the results, which resulted in you leaving. We would advise speaking to our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) if you would like this to be looked into further (i.e. why there were delays at each stage). PALS can be contacted by email at bcfpals@nhs.net or telephone on 0208 216 4924. In the meantime, we send our apologies for your poor experience and send your mother our best wishes, the patient experience team.

Review titled Excellent Care at A&E
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by V Harrison - Posted on 08 August 2023
My husband had an A&E appointment after calling 111. He was given a time slot within the hour, was triaged within 15 minutes of arrival and then had tests within 30 mins. The results were available while we waited and by midday all was done and my husband was vastly reassured. Very efficient service and very kind staff - all of them. Thank you.

i stayed in victoria ward for 6 days however my bedsheets wasn't changed once. the cleaner came into the ward singing at half 11 at night as-well as talking to a peer when we was trying to sleep.. midwifes speaking their own language to each other didn't make me feel comfortable when they was on the ward next to my bed.

Review titled Fantastic MLU (2 very positive experiences)
Rated 5 stars out of 5

I’ve had two children (2021 and 2023) at Barnet midwife led unit (MLU). I cannot rate my experiences highly enough, the care and expertise of the staff were absolutely fantastic both times. I had two drug free births and was fully supported with my birth plan and care. Thank you to all of the wonderful modwives in the MLU. I’d love to leave a more detailed review but I’m not sure where to?

Review titled Very quick despite doctors strike
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Daguerrotype - Posted on 14 July 2023
I was seen quickly with very little waiting for an abscess to be lanced. The pharmacy let things down as it took an hour to dispense an antibiotic (just like TTAs delaying in patient discharges. One thing was incorrect - my GP nurse does not do dressings anymore - I will need to go to Finchley Memorial Walk In clinic

Dear Daguerrotype. Thank you for reviewing your recent experience with Barnet hospital. We're very glad to read that you were treated quickly despite the doctors' strike. We also note that you waited an hour in pharmacy and on this point, it might be helpful to mention that the prescription process requires checking the appropriateness of each prescription and ensuring that it is safe for the patients. This often requires pharmacy staff to contact the prescriber to go through any queries or concerns. The prescription is then dispensed, labelled and checked before it is handed to the patient. During busy periods, the waiting time can unfortunately reach an hour, and as this was the case, we apologise for the wait. Separately, if you'd like to discuss being given any incorrect information regarding dressings, please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS). PALS can be contacted by email at bcfpals@nhs.net or telephone on 0208 216 4924. Kind regards, the patient experience team.

Review titled Unprofessional practices
Rated 2 stars out of 5

Attend A&E with breathing issue while heart beats was at 132 and temperature at 39. received by nurses at Major unit, offered fluids IV and paracetamol. 3 hours later blood result showed no infection while temperature rises to 41 and hear beats at 116. I was discharged carelessly at 4am without offering any kind of support and medication. Trainee doctor didn’t know to do and register doctors didn’t feel to visit me. After 5 hours burning in temperature and difficulty breathing, they didn’t even offer one physical examination. Amazing job from nurses but doctors may need to change their approach before people lose their health because of their short comings

Dear reviewer, we're very sorry to read that you attended our emergency department recently and felt you were discharged without due care and consideration, in addition to being seen by junior doctors that you felt didn't have the appropriate level of knowledge to treat you. With the nature of your concerns, we recommend speaking to our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS). PALS can be contacted by email at bcfpals@nhs.net or telephone on 0208 216 4924. Separately, we are glad to note that the nurses did an amazing job and will pass on your compliment. Sending you our best wishes, the patient experience team.

Review titled Amazing experience

After just given birth to my first daughter three weeks ago I have nothing but praise for the maternity services. After being a high risk pregnancy and having multiple appointments and scans the antenatal services were faultless al- fri day unit staff to the scanning department! Being an in patient on Victoria ward on and off from 32 weeks I cannot fault the midwives either. With my last admission being three weeks (including having my daughter and staying 4 days after) I got to know many of the midwives and health care staff who I cannot fault - from endless observation checks and ctg monitorings I couldn’t be more thankful for the care given to me and my little girl both before and after birth. I will not hesitate having my next child here. Thank you Barnet maternity services!
