  1. Review titled Impressive service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Mr Francis Knott - Posted on 03 November 2023

I presented at A & E about four weeks ago with a very concerning urology issue . The department was very busy and clearly struggling with the high demands of the evening, yet seemed to be dealing with everyone’s needs very professionally and patiently . My own treatment resulted in some tests and an overnight stay at Winchester Hospital urology dept for observation before discharge later that day. My treatment here had been excellent also and I was referred for a Uro CT scan which occurred a week or so later. In a matter of three weeks I had received the CT and flexible cystoscopy scans, a pre operation assessment and an admission to the Diagnostic and Treatment Centre for day care surgery . In conclusion I would very much like to highlight my appreciation of the speed at which I have been treated and the courtesy and amazing professionalism of all the staff that I had the pleasure to come into contact with. I know the NHS is under huge pressures at the moment and my expectations had not been too high but to witness the service I received at Basingstoke and Winchester Hospitals at such close hand and its expertise with such calm efficiency is something I shall remember for a long time.

  2. Review titled What lovely people

I only had a small biopsy on my back but because I had have a fear of needles I was very tense but as soon as they noticed, they immediately put me at ease. right throughout the small op they kept assuring me and I genuinely became quite relaxed. as advised to remove the plaster after 48 hours, I have just done this and having a healthy hairy back I found it more stressful than the op itself :-) Ladies, you were both fantastic and I thank you so,so much for the care and understanding you gave me. whatever you are being paid, it should be doubled! xx Roger

  3. Review titled Excellent service

I had an excellent experience at c4 and the dtc all staff were wonderful and they all were mindful that I am a trans man (female to male). The care I received was excellent and my consultant gave me plenty of time to ask any questions. All the nurses were great and so friendly. I was in a side room and the staff joyfully chatting to each other always bought a smile to my face.

  4. Review titled Wonderful service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Gill Gleeson - Posted on 05 September 2023

I attended A&E at around 9.30 am. The department was busy. I was suffering excruciating pain across my back and my front left side. I was triaged within minutes, had blood taken and told it looked like Meningitis. I was offered pain relief and it helped immediately. I was seen by a doctor who confirmed that it was Meningitis. I was prescribed medication and discharged within around 4 hours. The staff involved were very helpful and efficient. Please pass my thanks on to all those involved.

  5. Review titled Breast Clinic

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I attended the breast clinic today and it was outstanding. This was my first experience of having a mammogram and the team members immediately put me at ease. I had a mammogram, consultation and ultrasound all in 45 mins which was incredibly efficient. All members of the team were helpful and kind which I really appreciated. What a wonderful team. Top marks!

  6. Review titled left appointment feeling deflated

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 16 August 2023

Went for an appointment, arrived 10 minutes before and checked in and waited, watched others going in for appointments which were after mine, i didnt complain or moan as i know how busy the clinics are. Eventually someone asked if i was being dealt with, when i said no i was told that the Dr thought i had not turned up and was writing a letter as we spoke to say i was a no show, why i don't know as i had booked in, was told that their system sometimes acts funny, well if that is the case why not come out and check the patient is actually waiting instead of immediately blaming them for non attendance, how rude is that. Then during my appointment had a student doctor in the room which i never consented to and for which i felt was more for their benefit than mine as she was obviously teaching the student. Then instead of helping me with my issue decided that i must be in menopause and asked about whether i had hot flushes and what my appetite was like, not what i was expecting for this type of appointment. I went through my menopause 10 years ago and luckily have not suffered at all, but should i suffer i will see someone who specialises in menopause. Then to add insult told i wouldn't be having the treatment booked in today as the diagnosis in their opinion was different to that i was given 3 years ago and the pain seemed ok now. It would be most helpful if doctors understood that not everyone screams in pain with their problem/issue, this isn't because it doesn't cause them pain but because they are used to the pain they are in as they have had to suffer for years and its something they just get used to. Bone pain can be experienced during menopause i have read but in my instance x-rays and MRI scans show damage so if caused by menopause or not that is irrelevant now, hence the title i feel deflated. I woke up today in the hope some pain may be helped and left the hospital feeling like i had been in to see someone about the menopause and my appetite. I don't want to say bad things about the NHS but in my instance i feel like something is written on my notes that interferes with my care because i see no other reason why someone would treat me this way.

  8. Review titled Perfect

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Hanna and Ryan - Posted on 18 August 2023

My wife had to be induced and was admitted to the labour ward at basingstoke on the Tuesday. Baby arrived safely on the Wednesday and we left the hospital on the Friday. What made this experience amazing was the staff! we had a birthing plan to have a water birth naturally without any pain relief. When we found my wife had to be induced and put on the hormone drip the idea of having a water birth was out of the window but the staff kept us relaxed and were extremely friendly and caring. so we were put at ease. My wife was experiencing pain from the examinations and the staff had offered pain relief and put all the myths at bay and were very informative and knowledgeable but also understanding and did not pressure us what so ever! so we then decided on pain relief. when we found that the drop was not working for my wife, we were advised that surgery may have to be the outcome. Of course this is extremely scary for my wife especially but again the team had some how managed to keep us calm and informed and assured us and relieved any concerns we had all the while still giving us complete control over our decision. In the end we decided to have the C section. baby and mum are perfectly safe and recovering well. We cannot thank the team enough. These guys are just incredible! every day working tirelessly in hectic situations but always always putting others before them and while doing their job brilliantly. I can't describe how supportive, caring, loving and professional they were. they made us laugh at the right times they kept us informed all the way through and were completely transparent. they got us through a very difficult time and delivered our baby for us and essentially gave us a new meaning in life. from the bottom of our hearts Thank You! so so much! I hope this finds its way to the ladies and gentlemen on the ward because every single one of them from housekeeping to registrars were delivering a service like no other. it worked like clock work! again Thank You Basingstoke Maternity Ward Staff.

  9. Review titled Great practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I went to a&e with an infection I had, the two nurses who was in a&e were so lovely. They was really helpful and supportive, they explained absolutely everything to me which made me feel so much better and at easy as I was very nervous. They both checked up on me throughout my time there and made me feel very comfortable. I thankfully got discharged on the same night but both of the nurses I saw were lovely and made me feel so much better. They was both very calm and explained everything to me and explained all the results to me, they answered all of my questions and gave me very good advice. Thank you so much

My wife was admitted to A&E on Sunday morning. All the staff were polite, very helpful, and professional. The Doctor she saw was fantastic and put my wife at ease, and I believe praise/recognition should be passed down to this department as it is well deserved. Thank you all.
