I attended A and E as had a nasty fall off the top of a step ladder the previous day. Had hurt my leg pretty badly . I was amazed how quickly I was triaged and seen by a Doctor who was brilliant. Left one and a half hours later. Fantastic service well done Bedford Hospital .

Review titled Wonderful care
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Emma Brown - Posted on 23 October 2024
I went into A&E on the evening of 22/10/24. I got seen by Triage, Xray and my ankle sorted, all very quickly and back out within 1.5hrs. The staff were all lovely, polite & caring. My situation was explained to me thoroughly and kindly. Considering they are very overworked hospital staff, they were swift, courteous and caring. The overall experience was made so much nicer by these wonderful people. Thank you

Review titled Poor

I have to say it wasn't the best visit to see a consultant I've had, in fact it was indeed the worst. I had to wait over an hour past the appointment time and when I was eventually called through by a lovely nurse, I was taken to the consultants room where a woman sat. On entering she turned to the nurse and told her she didn't have time as she was going to a meeting and didn't even look at me or say hello. I was immediately ushered out of her room and taken to another room by the nurse who apologised profusely and she promised to find someone that would see me. She went off to seek help, and I could hear her talking to colleagues within earshot of me and she was asking what to do...they basically told her it's not their problem. She came back about 5 minutes later and told me that someone will see me in a few minutes. She was so lovely and her colleagues let her down badly, all of them. I was then taken to see the consultant who was friendly on arrival and asked me a few questions about what was happening. He then asked me to sit in the chair so he could look at my bits in the presence of the nurse. I wasn't sat for more than a minute in the chair whilst he looked from a distance. I then got dressed and sat down at his desk. He said I LS which is what I knew already and wrote out a prescription for steroid cream. I asked what happens next? He said nothing. I said not even a follow up? He said no... I said I was a member of a group for this issue and all the ladies get follow up appointments and monitored for this condition. He then decided I could have a follow up in December. Quite frankly I don't have any confidence going forward with Bedford Gynae and I have asked my GP to refer me to another hospital which she has now done. I have today left a voicemail in Gynae to cancel my December follow up appointment and will no doubt have to wait at least a year now to be seen by the other hospital but would rather wait for another year than receive the treatment I have received to date at Bedford Hospital. So disappointing, it's hard putting your private parts on display for all to see without being dismissed and having been put off by the other consultant that same day. I had waited since March for this appointment and had to fight tooth and nail for it. Bedford Hospital needs to do better I'm afraid in this department.

Review titled Outstanding

We arrived with my granddaughter 9 months who had a very high temperature to AandE. My daughter lives in London and was spending time with us in Bedford. We were referred to Cauldwell House. When she started vomiting the receptionist came to our aid. She sent the doctor a message to attend to us asap, took us to a private room and offered to sit with us until the doctor could attend. The doctor was with us within minutes. Thanks to all the doctors, nurses and other staff who have provided such an excellent service at Bedford Hospital. The whole process seemed efficient and we didn’t have a wait.

I had a colposcopy procedure today (16/9/24). I was very nervous as I had never had this kind of procedure before. The ladies working in the department were so kind and caring. They are a credit to the hospital.

Review titled Amazing
Rated 5 stars out of 5

My 2 year old was recently admitted to Riverbank ward after a short stint in the A&E department. The care we received was second to none and we couldn't fault anyone or any department. For what was a very very scary time for us as a family the care of the staff and how they cared for our daughter was brilliant and we couldn't have asked for anymore. We were on holiday at the time of the accident so this was not our local hospital, we were asked if we wanted to be transferred to our local hospital but due to the level of care we had already received by this point we declined and wanted to stay. I cannot remember a lot of the names that looked after us but there are a few faces that we remember well and i hope this gets back to them and they are able to know who they are. The female Doctor that took charge of our care in the A&E department was amazing and kept us updated as and when when during this time we were incredibly worried and not sure if our daughter would make it, she was so reassuring and really helped us feel a little more at ease. Foundation dr on Riverbank ward was always there for not only my daughter but to the rest of us as a family and ensuring we were all okay due to the nature of the accident. He was always around if we had any questions and would help us as much as possible when he could and was extremely approachable. Nurses on Riverbank ward All i can say is thank you. For the care you gave our daughter and adapting things and willing to try different things to help when she was having her observations and any other interventions done and again for ensuring our comfort and making sure we were okay and had everything we need. The MaxFax doctor was incredible and sang to my daughter to help her get through her examination and was extremely patient. Critical care ensured we had all of our questions answered and ensured we knew even though we were discharged that we could come back to them at any point if we were worried. The play specialists that work so hard ensuring there is fun activities for the children to do everyday. This was a safe haven for us and gave us that change of scenery we all needed and being able to see our daughter play and have some enjoyment was great. Also for coming to appointments with us and not only helping to support my daughter but also for supporting us too. The two doctors that came to see her before she could be discharged were great and did her checks in a play car whilst she was playing outside which helped her so much. The safeguarding nurse always kept us informed and made sure we were okay and had support. The eye team and Dr that came to see us in her room were great and played videos for her to watch whilst she was having her examination again just making everything that little bit easier. It doesn't feel enough to just say thank you. This was the hardest week of our lives and we are just in awe of the care and treatment we received. Thankyou so much.

Review titled Care was brilliant
Rated 5 stars out of 5

I took my 92 year old Mother to Bedford A and E department on Wednesday 4th September. She was having difficulty breathing and had had previous chest pain. The staff were extremely kind, caring and knowledgeable. Both medical and nursing staff were brilliant. We were there the whole day (9hours) but after her investigations and treatment she went home with medications. She had an investigation and a consultant appointment as outpatient following this within weeks. She has made a brilliant recovery and her quality of life had much improved. She was treated with respect at all times.

Review titled Delays and Chaos

My wife admitted with appendicitis, 10 hours wait in Accident & Emergency. On ward (Richard Ward) observation and bloods were missed/bypassed- nurses were too busy. She has a soya allergy and was continually offered food containing soya. At times long wait for pain relief. Long wait on discharge waiting for pharmacy. The whole ward seemed chaotic and understaffed.

Review titled Superb Care

Gave birth in Bedford at the start of August with my second. I was super intent on not staying in hospital for long and everyone I came into contact with was on board and got me to my brother’s wedding a mere 24 hours after giving birth. I’ll forever be grateful for them being able to combine the safe delivery of my beautiful baby boy with the opportunity to still attend a big family event. Everyone was so kind, chatty and caring. They made a stressful 14 hours in hospital a whole lot more manageable. I cannot speak highly enough of the care I received to other pregnant people in my life. This was my second delivery at Bedford. My first was very different but I was just as well looked after then too.
