Review titled Impressed with care received
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Kathleen Grove - Posted on 07 June 2024
The care I received while in antenatal clinics, day assessment unit, delivery suite and finally on wards was all very thorough and very reassuring. I know there is a lot of negative feedback in the media about maternity services but this is not what you will experience with this hospital; every individual you encounter genuinely cares and I felt nothing was missed, I am glad I chose this hospital to give birth.

I have to say a massive thank you to the midwives and doctors during my induction and delivery at Birmingham Women’s. Thank you for keeping me informed, calm and for being so supportive and encouraging during my labour. A huge thank you to the doctor that helped deliver my baby girl, and thank you to the midwife and student midwife who were incredible at being my cheer team with my husband.

Review titled Totally Awful Care - Gyn colposcopy
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 16 February 2024
I was referred here a while back and the doctor I was under in the colposcopy dept was so lovely. Sadly late last year I was diagnosed with cancer, I was informed I needed an operation, but the doctor I was seeing couldn't so this, so referred to a consultant. That's when the problems started!!! Seen her, she seemed so 'you are coming in within the next 2 weeks, cancel everything In your diary', I did the consent etc.... then the wait started. I had to chase my preop, they booked me as a telephone call, when the nurse called me she couldn't understand why booked as a telephone call as I needed a F2F appointment as I will be a impatient, not a day case, & also underlying health conditions. Then had to wait over 2 weeks for the F2F appt (which was a joke).told be there about 45 mins i was there a total of 4.5 hours!!!!!!! No organisation at all, no one knew what was going on, total joke. I am chasing my date, considering I should have been In and out by now, to be informed could be april/may until I'm booked in, I don't get it!!! My consultant was telling me how 'urgent' this operation was and how quick I needed the surgery, and yet now whoever I contact (you are lucky if you get hold of someone) but when you do, no one knows what's happening. I'm really concerned, just don't know what to do,but certainly wouldn't recommend this hospital if you need an operation.

Review titled Impossible to get hold of anyone on the phone
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 22 January 2024
I'm supposed to have a follow-up growth scan this week and still haven't had a date/time of when it will be. When I try to call Radiology (0121 335 8260) I just get cut off. When I try to call any other numbers, I just get put through to other departments and no-one is ever able to help me. I work full-time so I do require some advance notice for a scan - are they expecting us to just drop everything last minute when we receive our appointment? Really poor communication and they need to sort their phone lines out.

Review titled Absolutely Amazing
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Claire - Posted on 03 December 2023
I just wanted to thank everyone. The team are so lovely and I was certainly in good hands. I had surgery and everything was a success. A day I was petrified of doing but I didn’t need to be. I would highly recommend. Thank you!

Review titled Awful Awful Awful

I waited more than 5 hours to be prescribed antibiotics. Absolutely ridiculous. Not sure what the average wait time is but 5 hours is excessive. Do better.

Review titled So disappointed
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 20 October 2023
I have had a high risk pregnancy and my experience at fetal medicine was amazing. However, when I reached the end of my second trimester and throughout my third trimester, I felt like everything went downhill. I have had to attend triage a number of times due to my waters breaking early. The wait to see a doctor lasts 4+ hours which is ridiculous. I was admitted to ward 1 on two occasions and the atmosphere was awful. I had to bring my own pillows from home and felt pressurised by several consultants to be induced when I have wanted a c section throughout my pregnancy. I think seeing a different consultant each day on the ward was not helpful as each consultant said something different to the last so I felt like I was a broken record, repeating myself. I also felt as though I was being rushed out so that a bed could free up for somebody else and I ended up being sent home to symptom watch which increased my anxiety. I am so disappointed in the service provided which has only made me feel so much more anxious about my c section and the after care that I’ll be receiving.

Review titled Fantastic maternity unit
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Ellie - Posted on 18 July 2023
We recent gave birth to our 1st baby at the Birmingham Women's hospital and our experience was fantastic. From every routine pregnancy appointment, additional growth scans to d-day itself, we had such a positive experience. The staff are phenomenal, very nurturing and reassuring. Our midwife whilst young had such a wealth of experience and knowledge I felt in such safe and capable hands. Wonderful staff all round - thank you to all those who cared for us.
