Review titled All the staff were so welcoming, reassuring, warm and kind
by Claire007 - Posted on 29 June 2023
I had the best experience - from arriving I was checked in, given relevant information, water to have before surgery, all staff was welcoming. Taken in and asked many questions, weighed, blood pressure etc. All staff were very welcoming. I then went back waited in the waiting room, theatre staff member came talked to me about the procedure, what would happen in theatre. I was then asked to get changed and then took straight into theatre - all the staff were so welcoming, reassuring, warm and kind. I cannot praise the theatre staff enough, they were amazing. I then woke in recovery with a lovely nurse who then took me to the next room where I slept a little and then another wonderful nurse stayed with me on and off, she brought me tea and biscuits and took my observations then gave me a sandwich. The total experience from getting there to leaving was amazing. I have had treatment in private hospitals before but this was better. It was also very very clean and the environment the staff all worked well as a team. Thank you to the Day Surgery staff x

I recently had a biopsy for my prostate. Every member of staff I encountered during the process were so caring, professional and calming. Can't thank them enough for the constant hard work they do under such challenging circumstances.

Review titled Lack of holistic care
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 10 June 2023
My husband was a patient on the stroke ward for almost 3 weeks, during this time I was not approached once by the staff nurses in charge of my husbands care, to update me on what had happened that day, to tell me his progress if the physio, OT or speech therapist had given my husband any treatment, I think I must have been invisible! The only hands on care was given by the very friendly and helpful health care assistants. After I asked for an update from physios and OT, they both phoned me twice and were very helpful and told me how my husband was progressing. I also sat in on a session with the speech therapist which I found very informative. It is so sad that there was no holistic care from any staff nurse, it seems nursing has changed for staff nurses as their roles now seem to be medicine rounds, and completing files at the nurses station, not talking to patients any more.

Review titled Fantastic staff and a great experience
Rated 5 stars out of 5

I unfortunately had an accident and sustained a fractured wrist. I was seen by the urgent care team who were extremely helpful and efficient and I was then referred to orthopaedics for a review. I had 2 appointments 4 weeks apart. Both clinics were running pretty much on time and everyone I encountered treated me with respect, ensured I had all the information I needed and answers any questions I had. The clinics were extremely busy yet seemed to be running very efficiently. I cannot thank all the nurses, radiographers and doctors that I saw enough

Review titled Amazing care and Service
Rated 5 stars out of 5

I was admitted for a procedure at the hospital yesterday and during admission I was found to have a very fast heart rate which resulted in my having an ECG showing an irregular fast heart rate. The procedure was cancelled and I was directed to A and E for additional tests and treatment. I only had to wait for 30 mins to be triaged after another short wait was taken into a cubicle and hooked up to the heart monitor etc. The nurse caring for me, who I understood to be an agency nurse, was extremely empathetic and professional and reassuring. We were quickly seen by a/the SeniorConsultant. He listened to me give my history. Talked me through his treatment plan, was extremely pleasant, despite the department being mad busy and the many obvious demands on his time, made me feel I was his only patient. The first treatment was not sufficient to settle my AF so my doctor returned an explained his next steps in language I could understand. He also took time to explain to the nurse looking after me about the treatment which was new to her. Our doctor stayed whilst the treatment was administered and returned regularly to see how it was progressing. Once he was satisfied I could be discharged he personally phoned the Cardiology Dept at our local hospital to explain what had happened. Returning to us, he told us what steps we needed to take on my return home. We thanked him and those who had looked after me in such a caring and professional way. He responded that everyone deserved the best level of care possible, irrespective of how busy the department was. It was clear to us that this leadership from the top has had a profound effect on all those we came across in the department As we left he said if I needed anything I was to be in touch. At 8am this morning, 11 hours after we left A and E, I received a call from the duty Sister on A and E asking how I was after my visit yesterday. She added, did I understand the next steps? She said someone would call tomorrow or Monday to check up on me. My spouse and I, who have experience of hospitals in a number of places and situations over the years rate this experience as the very best we have ever received. The people of Blackpool as blessed to have such a gold standard A and E department. Bravo to all concerned.

Review titled My elderly mothers care.
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Bernadette Holliday - Posted on 05 July 2023
My elderly mother was recently hospitalised with sepsis, and as a family we cannot praise the care she received at Blackpool Victoria Hospital. Within 20mins of arriving at a very busy A&E, she was given antibiotics which continued throughout the night. She was transferred to a ward, which was very busy, but she once again received wonderful care and was treated with respect throughout. The consultant and staff kept the family up to date with her ongoing care, and when it was clear she was not going to recover, we were given choices of where she should receive palliative care and several agencies were involved in this process, but we were kept informed throughout. Thank you once again to all the staff who came into contact with mum.

I had a right side Nephrectomy on 09/05/23. I would like to thank the Urology team for their kindness and compassion during this difficult time for me. From my excellent surgeon who I could tell cared about their patients. To the wonderful nurses on pre-op who I had to see multiple times.

Went into A&E in horrible pain in my hip area to be told it was a groin strain. I could barely walk and was refused a extra crutch to help me walk. Returned home to London two weeks later to find it was a fractured pelvis. They seemed so convinced I was too young to have a hip problem they never sent me for an X-Ray. I'm sure this is isn't a reflection on Blackpool Vic in general but it does worry me.

Review titled My stay on Ward 37
by volansry48 - Posted on 23 May 2023
I found this page and was somewhat shocked by the critical feedback, both to the ward/staff and the hospital in general. I have been here for four weeks and I must say that I have been treated with the utmost care and respect from every single member of staff associated with my care. In fact, I think it would be unfair to single out any one individual. They are all so professional, caring and helpful and are a credit to their profession. The ward itself seems to run like clockwork, very efficient and professional. Meal times are generally on time every day and the choice and quality of food is excellent, fresh and wholesome, not processed. The housekeeper is around several times a day with hot beverages and biscuits if required. The cleaning staff are round every day, all day, cleaning, wiping down and mopping to keep the bays perfectly clean. The bathroom facilities are more than adequate and cater for all levels of mobility, washing and showering at any time of day as you desire. My bed was was made or changed on a daily basis and I personally slept fine, (if not for my preferred eight hours). I have no complaints. In my opinion, hospital wards are not hotels and should not be considered as such. I wanted to convey my feelings and thoughts about my experiences in ward 37, for the record. Thank you all.
