Review titled 12-27 hour wait time in A & E
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Naeem Ahmed - Posted on 06 June 2024
Absolutely disgusting service. I will summarise what was an ordeal. My family took my 86 year old mother into A&E on two occasions, in both cases suffering from very high blood pressure in excess of 230/100 mmHg. On her second visit, the GP surgery she was visiting at the time called the ambulance who took her to Bradford Royal Infirmary. She made to wait there, sitting in a wheelchair for over 12 hours on the first occasion, and over 15 hours on the second visit. Triage took for eternity. The A & E department at Bradford Royal Infirmary was like something you see in the third world. The doctors are lazy and incompetent and do not turn up on time. There were people waiting for over 24 hours on the day. A reminder that my mother is 86 with underlying health conditions as expected for that age. Having people of that age sitting on a chair with no food, water or contacts in an A & E for over more than 12 hours should be a criminal offence. If one leaves the A & E then they lose their position and will have to re-register at the desk. I ask what happened 4 hour maximum waiting time? . My mother like many others there were in agony, pain and the doctors were casually strolling like there were walking into a party - Either sort the doctors out or close this department down and fine all those involved. Even a hospital in a warzone has better waiting times. Are you purposely forcing people to abandon the NHS and go private ?? . Please sort this hospital out or close it as it does not belong here in 2024.

Review titled Inefficient
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Patient - Posted on 14 June 2024
Wait times 9 hours in A&E and still waiting to find out the cause of chest pain and associated edema and numbness. Where’re the NI contributions being used. This hospital is a nightmare and it’s evident that there’s no supervision, management or controls in place.

Review titled Nurses great
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Chris - Posted on 01 June 2024
The staff on ward 11 were great and very attentive though I had very little feedback from the surgical team. The food served on the ward however was not very good. There were options for gluten free, vegan etc but no option for anyone avoiding processed food. I asked what option they had for someone who doesn't eat grains, sugar or seed oils and there were very little only a couple of low nutrient or high carb meals available. Seeing how type 2 diabetes consumes more than 10% of the NHS budget I find it incredible in this day and age you can't get a healthy low carb real food meal in a place supposedly making us better.

Review titled Outstanding Paediatric Department
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 19 May 2024
We rushed our son into A&E around 9:30am on Friday morning with suspected appendicitis. The paediatric team in A&E were lovely and quick to treat our son. He was moved to the Children's Decisions Area on Ward 32 where he received pain relief and doctor diagnosis. He was then moved to Ward 30 where he could rest in a proper bed under nurse observation whilst waiting to see the surgical team. The surgeon came to see our son at around 5:30pm and told us he would be having the surgery to remove his appendix the same day, the anaesthetist then came to see him around 6:30pm and then he was taken to theatre at 8pm. The surgical team were phenomenal, not only did they make our son feel reassured that everything would be ok, they also did a great job at reassuring me too. I cannot thank the whole team enough.

Visited A&E and was seen within an hour. As it is such a large hospital I feared a long wait, however the team were efficient. The staff were all friendly, especially the doctor who saw me. Thanks for your help!

Review titled Above and beyond care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Chris - Posted on 20 April 2024
We were referred by our district cardiac nurse with concerns of reflux with our baby daughter. Upon arrival at ward 32 it soon became apparent that the root cause was complications with her heart after her recent surgery. Unable to be transferred to the cardiac ward at Leeds the nurses and doctors were absolutely world class during a 6 day stay before getting transferred to Leeds. They were dealing with a situation that required specific knowledge and attention. It brings me to tears thinking of the effort that individual nurses went to. At times it was organised for there to be one nurse in sole care of our daughter. At other times there were multiple nurses in our room helping out. The doctors were unbelievably compassionate and parent centred throughout - conferring with her consultants ongoing and relaying any information immediately. These words fall short in extending my gratitude appropriately. It was a very tense and traumatic time for me and her mother and I cannot ever repay the debt of the care we received during this experience. Our district cardiac nurse even came to spend time with us during our stay. Thank you so much. We continue to receive world class care for our daughter who only stands a chance thanks to the care of the NHS. You don’t know you need this care until you need it and when you do - it is there.
