  1. Review titled Amazing staff!!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Elisabeth walker - Posted on 18 March 2023

I went to the bri on the 5th march after an accident at work, I had to have a pretty major operation on my wrist and from walking into the hospital to leaving I can’t rate the staff enough! Every single one of them were amazing! I’ve never been to hospital before so this was very scary for me and the staff just made my stay there as least stressful and scary as possible! I honestly can’t thank them enough! The nurses, student nurses, doctors, the plastics team and just all the staff! They are just amazing at there jobs and I honestly can’t thank them enough!

Ward 21, professional, caring, empathetic, patient, knowledgeable and dedicated. I’d never had surgery before, never stayed in hospital so I was anxious and fearful. From the moment I arrived, discussions with my surgeon to the quite frankly excellent aftercare, I realise I need not have worried. My every need was met seamlessly. I will be forever grateful for everything the hospital has done for me, and I’m hoping I will make a good recovery now I’m home. Thank you.

  4. Review titled Uncompassionate

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Jamie Gabbutt - Posted on 24 March 2023

My wife went into the a+e dept and has to wait 11hrs to be seen by the doctor, we went in at 10pm and it just seemed that after triage the dept was used as a holding pen until the day shift came in. There was a minimal security presence which added to the joy of waiting in the bri. I appreciate the staff have to deal with some idiots but they all seemed unapproachable and unwilling to to help anybody, even a lady who was clearly in lots of pain, distress and very poory. She was practically begging to be seen and the nurse just said "the wait is 4-7 hrs".It's a sad indictment of the modern nhs when patients and relatives are the only people willing to give any palliative care to this woman. Even the cleaner shouted at her for being sick in the cardboard tubs. I'm not a soft person but I was genuinely disgusted with the treatment this woman got.

Apologies for the delay in responding to your post. I am very sorry to hear of the poor experience you had whilst attending our accident and emergency department. Please accept our sincere apologies for highlighting your poor patient experience alongside the lack of basic of care, compassion and kindness by our ED staff. This is not the level of care we aspire to deliver and although our nurses and doctors work incredibly hard to deliver a high standard of emergency care within the 24 hour period, on this occasion you have highlighted we have not provided the care and attention required during your ED stay. We value all patient feedback and would encourage you to contact our Patient Experience Service (PALS) on 01274 364810 or by emailing patient.experience@bthft.nhs.uk and they will be able to discuss your concerns in more detail. Your feedback will be shared with the team and used to help improve our service. Kind regards Catherine

  5. Review titled What’s the point of an A and E

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 19 February 2023

What’s really the point of an A and E , if the emergencies of patients don’t seem urgent to the hospital. A burn on my leg, all I need really, is an assessment, and guidance on how to deal with it going forward. 8hrs .. from 10pm to 6am and as I am typing this I still haven’t been seen by a practician that can actually help. The sad part is I have a daughter that I left at home the entire night because it was urgent. But not to this hospital Standards it seems. I am so shocked honestly. It’s unbelievable. There is a guy that has been here since 4pm, it’s currently 6:44am .. dude is sitting next to me sleeping. What’s the difference between that and third world countries. I damned near had to ask a nurse .. “Honestly dude it’s just a burn all I really need is antibiotics” to which he replied “Oh really, the doctor will see you next then” that was an hour ago. Anyway, I don’t get sick often so my experience in hospitals is very close to none .. but if this is what an A and E is supposed to be, you might asleep stay at home and just die in pain, cuz I don’t see the difference between dying at home unattended and dying at the A and E unattended… Shocking

Apologies for the delayed response to your post - I have only recently taken up the role of responding to posts on Care Opinion. I was very sorry to hear your comments about your experience attending our Accident & Emergency Department. All patients are triaged/ assessed initially by a healthcare professional and will be prioritised according to how urgent their condition is. Accident & Emergency departments are not always the quickest way to have minor injuries treated and you can seek advice initially from the NHS 111 service. They will help direct you to the most appropriate service. I do hope you received treatment for your burn and would invite you to contact our Patient Experience Service (PALS) to discuss your experience in more detail on 01274 364810 or by emailing patient.experience@bthft.nhs.uk. Kind regards Catherine

  6. Review titled Do Better!

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 02 February 2023

Firstly I want to thank the consultant and other healthcare professionals during my visit today. Despite the 1h wait to be seen the advice received was valuable. Unfortunately my experience was one in which I do not wish to encounter again, women who have suffered a miscarriage or recurrent miscarriages should not be placed in a waiting room with women who are accessing other maternity services, antenatal class and more. In my experience sitting in a waiting room amongst multiple pregnant women with a television screen that relayed pregnancy and newborn advice was traumatic and insensitive to say the least. It is estimated that 1 in 5 women will experience a miscarriage at some point in their life. This is a common figure meaning multiple other women will enter your doors and be in the same situation that I was in. One of your trust values states 'We care'. Today that care was lacking. Consider the fact that a woman who has gone through a loss or losses will already be experiencing an impact to their mental health. As a trust you need to take accountability and consider the way you may be contributing to poorer mental health. Something as simple as another waiting area could have been easily rectified and made an individual who may already be encountering a multitude of emotions feel better. Do better.

  7. Review titled Useless and I want to leave

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 21 February 2023

I am a diabetic patient at Bradford royal infirmary. I struggle with my diabetes and they do not suggest anything different than increase my units and it never works, they lecture you if you mess up, I suffer mental health and work a full time job which they do not care about. I have been trying to get out on a pump for years now and doing everything they ask me to do to get on one and every time I ask there’s a new excuse, even though they know I struggle with my diabetes. The staff are very rude to me, they don’t ever answer the phone when I try and ring them. I feel like they only care about the money and as for having a go at me for my blood sugar going wild (which no diabetic in the world can avoid) they only want to look like the best hospital. I’m not impressed and I will be leaving. I’m the one suffering.

Rated 1 star out of 5

Today's visit to.m3 at bri has go be the worst. Wife was admitted with new born who was in for observation. Twice I had a run in with the receptionist who wouldn't allow me to sit with my partner even though it was with in visiting hours. The midwife was OK with this. Not the receptionist. I had to wait outside for 2 hours till evening shift came on who let me in..even they were dumbfounded. Yet a no reason was given. I hope.nobody has to come face to face with this horrible vile.person

I received a biopsy report and found the hospital got the results 4 days after surgery. I had been told by email and verbally that the hospital had the results 3 days before surgery which is not true.

  10. Review titled High quality care in difficult times for the NHS

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Stephen Murdoch - Posted on 23 January 2023

Having recently been discharged after surgery, I wish to express my thanks and gratitude to all who helped and guided me through uncertain times. The surgeons and technical experts who guided me through the options were patient and wise with their advice and the specialist nursing team were always willing to give additional counsel. My pre-surgery was carried out in a friendly and efficient manner and the surgical follow-up was nicely reassuring. My early discharge was held up by a temperature spike, which kept me in hospital for an additional seven days and here I must thank the staff on Ward 21 for all their kindness to me over that week. All the team, doctors, nurses, porters and ward staff were, without exception, just brilliant in their care of me throughout that time. It was a joy to see such a wonderful group of people looking after their ward throughout my stay. There were times when they were obviously tired and understaffed, but it did not affect their care of me and I am so grateful for all of their patience and kindness. I'm not allowed to mention individuals by name, which is a good thing as the list of "stars" would have been a long one. Thank you all; I will never forget your professionalism with a human face.
