Review titled Excellent service all round.
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Eamonn Marley - Posted on 20 September 2023
I had an emergency eye condition ulcer on the cornea caused by dormant shingles. The A&E straight through to Ophthalmology were excellent. I found all the staff I engaged with helpful and on the ball. My Consultant and his colleagues who dealt with me are a great example of how to engage with a patient correctly who is in pain. 10/10. The hospital was very clean to the eye. It all seemed fast, efficient,on the ball. Kudos all round!

Everyone who knows and loves me knows that I am not an easy patient to take care of. However, your Cardiology staff - from the domiciliary staff right up to the consultants, but most particularly your front-line nursing team - showed the care, patience and tolerance I needed to get through my brief hospital stay in the shortest possible time, but in a way that's armed me with the knowledge and information I need to prevent a repetition. I'm grateful for their kindness, humour and willingness to listen. Thank you for employing a diverse, knowledgeable and personable workforce - their collective and individual brilliance kept my anxiety at bay and made it much easier to help them to help me.

All the staff in the A and E department were caring and professional and despite the waiting time and the number of people waiting it was not a bad experience

Review titled Superb care

Our very grateful thanks to Accident and Emergency, resus and general teams when my father had an infection. He has underlying health issues which means infections take hold very quickly and can have serious impacts. At Accident and Emergency he was triaged within minutes of arrival and sent immediately to resus where tests were performed exceptionally quickly and his treatment was started within the hour. Once a bed was available he received excellent care from both wards 2b and 5b. Thankfully he was able to return home within a few days whilst continuing treatment. The prompt attention and subsequent care has meant he didn't have a lengthy stay in hospital which has made a huge difference to his recovery time. Throughout his treatment our family was fully informed of the plans and aftercare. We can't thank everyone enough. You are amazing.

All of the staff were fantastic when I had a laparotomy; nurses, doctors and auxiliary carers. Professional and pleasant. Would wholeheartedly recommend.

Review titled Typical
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Ross Kightly - Posted on 28 June 2023
I read my following poem, which I based on my experiences, at a recent poetry launch event in Brighouse: Typical I fall backwards onto a stone pavement. I suffer a head injury which bleeds profusely. Companions (wife, friend, neighbour) haul me to my feet. I'm taken to the local A&E, booked in… wait. Triaged, allocated to Minor Injuries. I wait. I'm seen by a cheerful, efficient practitioner. My wound is disinfected, dressed, prognosis is clearly explained. All this within 90 minutes. The wound heals without complications within the time frame expected. Banner headlines in local and national press, TV and radio news lead: Another NHS Success. (Spot the statements that, unfortunately, are merely fanciful). I think that sums up my feelings about your excellence, and my disgust at media distortion of the truth. Please feel free to make whatever use you wish of any part of this communication. Continue being spectacular! Yours, Ross Kightly

I was admitted to the cardiac care unit after having cardiac angioplasty in Leeds. I was monitored and treated for two days during which the care I received was excellent. The staff team were professional, dedicated, good humoured and reassuring. Many thanks

I arrived at A & E after having palpitations and a racing heartbeat. Was seen very promptly and all of the nurses, the radiographers and the nurse practitioner I saw were very polite, efficient and tried to put me at my ease. Suppose it depends on the time of day, I arrived at 7.30am, but I was very impressed with how quickly I was seen.

Review titled Appalling service from in house pharmacy
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by David Verity - Posted on 11 April 2023
Had an urgent Cardiologist appointment at Calderdale Royal Hospital on 5 April, consultant prescribed four medications, which he advised me to start immediately. Rowlands said one wasn't in stock and i would have to go back to collect it - pointed out this was best part of an hour's journey in each direction and the assistant said they would arrange for me to pick it up at Huddersfield when it was back in stock, 48 hours later no word from Rowlands. It now appears that the whole company closes down for four days. Nobody answering the phone at Halifax or Huddersfield, sent an email to the enquiries address and was told it was impossible to deliver. rang the complaints helpline, would I leave a message and someone would call me back - four days later and still waiting; emailed the complaints line, got an automated response 24 hours later telling me complaints were dealt with in the order they are received. Do I think I'll still be on the planet when they get round to it? It's now 11 April. This is supposed to be urgent and at this rate I'll be lucky to be able to start my medication within a week. Thank you Rowlands for assisting my stress levels, how on earth did the Trust think fit to award you the contract? Totally disgusted.

Dear Mr Verity. Thanks for your feedback. I now understand that Rowlands have been in touch and you should have your medication. Thank you again for highlighting it to us. Kind regards. Jacqui Booth, Communications Manager.
