Review titled Reception made me miss my appointment!
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Philip Clark - Posted on 14 November 2024
I went for my neurology check up and the reception told me it would take place on the ground floor by lifts D. I go upstairs and get told it's actually on the ground floor (where I was.) I go back downstairs and the doctor has already left!!! This is completely unacceptable and a waste of my day.

Review titled Horrible, rude staff who need more training on sympathy.
by Anonymous - Posted on 03 October 2024
Horrible experience with colorectal team. After having a colonoscopy, I was sent 6 reminders for a follow up phone appointment, naturally I was worried and anxious with the weeks that followed up to appointment, only to find out after an agonising wait I received no call on the day, so I called and spoke to a rude, unsympathetic staff member in the team who laughed my past weeks of trauma off and said there was a glitch in the system and I’d hear back from them. That glitch cost me 3 weeks of uncertainty, it should not be so hard to access biopsy results as a patient, with holding results and a complete lack of communication has resulted in me panicking for weeks. The results where normal and I should have received them straight away, instead I received 6 reminders of an appointment from the colorectal surgery department with no other info. Playing with peoples lives and emotions is disgusting. Staff on the phone especially in cancer departments should be trained better, all the phone operators where also half asleep and connected you to a dead end call. Stupid. I pay my taxes for this shambles.

Review titled Long waiting for care
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 16 September 2024
I waited over one and a half hours to see the doctor. This appointment was scheduled for me by gp who has to refer me many times since 2022 and 2021 for the same problems with which the similarities of symptoms can be associated. (My GP has to refer me several times every year to their hospital chain. In 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024. Still different consultants and still the same steps as before, instead of progressing to an advanced stage. Why another ultrasound? It won't change my symptoms, which needs to be fixed. This appointment should continue in the action phase. Or how many years should I suffer pain, yellow and white chalky stool, swelling. I have yellow stools every day, the pain comes every week or then second week and lasts for two to three days. I occasionally have chalky stools with a fever for about one to two days. It is ridiculous to look for excuses not to help the patient. Or is it some kind of bias? We are all equal.). However, I would not have left this review at this point, although I would have had many reasons to if I hadn't waited over an hour and a half to see a doctor while the hospital was not busy and instead of the doctor taking patients in order, he took a patient who was due 30 minutes after mine and was an hour late. As an apology from the doctor, I received that the receptionist did not check me in. When I said that the receptionist confirmed my check-in again while the doctor saw that patient who was supposed to be seen after me, the doctor said nothing and I saw no remorse, which made me feel discriminated and disrespected as a person.

Review titled Fast, friendly and fixed!
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Andy Zienkiewicz - Posted on 25 September 2024
Despite coming in when quite busy, I was triaged, consulted, x-rayed, consulted again and pharmacy supplied within 2 and a half hours. My car having a basic service takes a day! All by wonderful staff, who I sadly witnessed being abused on 2 occassions within that short time. God knows what you guys go through on Friday/Saturday nights. Bless you all!

Review titled Amazing service for paediatric trauma
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 09 September 2024
My son split his lip open and knocked a tooth into his gum - he was seen promptly and efficiently in A&E on the Sunday, added to the emergency list on the Monday and operated on by a dentist and plastic surgeon by 1030am. Unbelievable service, great communication from all members of staff from reception to recovery nurses, special thank you to the senior dentist and registrar (dental team) for their care and explanations throughout alongside the plastics team. We are very grateful and could not have asked for a better experience during a stressful time with our son. Many thanks and keep up the great work!

Review titled Badly organised, hellish waiting times
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 27 August 2024
I remarked to my partner as I walked in that for an a&e dept near central London, on a Saturday night bank holiday, there were few waiting -we were in luck. Many moons ago I was here for 7 hrs before some unlucky straw-puller dispiritedly came out to tell everyone to try tomorrow. You can imagine what happened next. This occasion I was there for a bleeding stomach (internal), and after some time I thought my name called -two nurses from two adjacent doors calling separate people, simultaneously and repeatedly (seriously, what could go wrong?). I approached, and she shook her head and pointed to the lady next door. I followed along with another woman, and reached the point of almost sitting in on her consultation before we awkwardly informed the nurse/ doctor we weren't together. On exiting the other door was shut, and would only open again for different names. A while later I got to the nurses (correctly this time) who recorded my health issues and took blood. Back at the waiting room it was another 3hrs to reach the doctor, after which the nurse pointed me toward Radiology that was entirely unstaffed and half in darkness, until randomly someone came past. He informed me they weren't ready and to go back to the waiting room. Another 2 hrs to get called back to this dept (while inadvertently I received a message from my partner that they were calling for me again, and had sent a doctor on a search). The only other person with me here was an old lady with broken leg, who'd been waiting near 11 hrs for Radiology, who was upset enough to be confronting staff unlucky enough to wander past. My 7 hrs all-inclusive was ultimately on hard waiting seats designed as hostile architecture or by someone who hates humanity -great for staff not having to move the occasional rough sleepers (in Chelsea), not so much for the thousands who use the space year in year out. At some stage in the night, I got worried for an argument busting out with some patient and the receptionist (a different one to earlier), before I worked out she was just aggressively swearing while gossiping loudly and moaning about the intricacies of her life, that was at least a respite from the hyperverbal teenager who mumbled to her mother without pausing for breath for 5 hrs straight. That encapsulates the night, and priorities. It is a surreal and joyless place, with the one cushioned seat holding a sign to not sit there, as mythical as El Dorado, where at some point you forget why you're there. Just pain and plastic cups. The next day I suffered suspected complications from the medication and 13hrs in absolute agony (at one stage my partner doing a stroke test), but would rather have enacted my Exorcist rendition in bed than in The Waiting Room. Every other review on here mentions 7 hr waiting times. Nurses and doctors fantastic, organisation and management appalling. Gives nhs a dirty name -long been a fanboy against American style corporatism, now sadly losing faith.

Review titled Worst phlebotomist
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Olga - Posted on 04 September 2024
I have a vein which sticks out so much that it could be seen from the moon, and yet when I had to give blood on the first floor antenatal department, 3 times out of 3 it was a disaster. Phlebotomist would stick the needle perpendicular to the vein or go all the way through the vein, at least 2 attempts each time, which left me with bruises each visit. I’ve never had that experience anywhere else and I have my check ups annually. I would expect a phlebotomist in the maternity ward would be better trained.

Review titled Sent away with unwell child
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Natty81 - Posted on 24 July 2024
I gave birth to my child at this hospital and had a great experience. I’ve come in with my child that had fevers of 37.9 degrees and broken out with puss like boils all over her body, suffering from staphylococcus for 7 months and resistance to all medications given to date and GP advised me to go to a&e and after seeing triage we were told they could do nothing and go back to GP. I was crying feeling unheard and disrespected for my poorly 3yo child. They hadn’t been eating and sleeping well due to the pain from these boils. I will tell all my friends and family how awful this experience was.
