Review titled Exceptional Care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Julie C - Posted on 16 November 2022
I attended for surgery on the 1st Nov initially, a lovely female junior doctor assessed my lump and said it would be best removed under GA. (This was an unnecessary surgery due to GP's did not see me soon enough, through 'it's phone appointments diagnosis') I came back on the 2nd Nov on the surgical assessment unit. I was put at ease, everyone was friendly, things explained well. Even though I hate general anesthetic the surgical team put me at ease. Surgery couldn't have gone better, I remained on the SAU after, had a lovely meal also (Bonus) To all on the Surgical Assessment Unit, Exceptional Care, Be Proud :) Thank You Jules

Review titled A&E waste of 7hrs
by Dissapointed11 - Posted on 23 November 2022
At 11:00pm I was referred to A&E via out of hours GP with a letter explaining his request for me to attend A&E. The triage nurse was fantastic. I then went into a cubicle, if you can call it that, with 2 chairs, and that was a squeeze. The nurse gave me IV paracetamol for my severe abdominal pain, took 10mins max to administer. After 2hrs I was still attached to the empty IV, no one came to check or advise what’s happening. I had to shout for the nurse to remove IV, asked for stronger pain relief as the pain was still intense. Advised they can’t give stronger pain relief until I’d seen a doctor. At 1:00 am I asked when doctor will see me, nurse said I’m next to be seen. By 4:30am, still no doctor, no pain relief, no communication from staff. I requested a doctor as my pain was intolerable. The doctor arrived 15 mins later. After being examined the doctor gave me morphine for pain, and referred to another doctor. At 5:30am another doctor examined me, who explained there are no beds for me to be admitted. The advised I should be given pain relief and referred to outpatients. The pain relief options offered were ones which obviously hasn’t worked for the last 3 days! I was offered a stronger pain killer which I explained I was allergic to, as detailed in my notes. I was then questioned whether I was sure I had an allergy, and what reactions did I have (facial swelling). Eventually, after going in circles, the doctor prescribed me the stronger pain killer and advised me to take antihistamines alongside them, and if I have a reaction, come back to A&E. I was discharged at 6:40am with a painkiller I have a reaction to, still in pain and no answers! What a waste of 7 hrs..

Review titled 95 year old waiting for hours in wheelchair
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Jennifer Creaghan - Posted on 09 November 2022
I followed an ambulance from my mother’s care home around lunchtime on Tuesday 8th November. She has Alzheimer’s is 95 and very frail. I stayed with her to reassure her, be a comfort to her and explain what was happening. The staff were very good and caring. After blood tests and an X-ray she was deemed fit to be discharged and I was told she would be taken back to the care home by ambulance. This seemed very necessary as she had even struggled to sit up to be dressed, was unable to walk and I didn’t think it safe for me to take her in my car, especially as it was dark and raining and I am unfamiliar with the area. I left just after 5pm after she had been transferred to a wheelchair. She had only had one biscuit to eat since her breakfast but I knew that the care home staff would look after her. Imagine my distress the following day when I visited her to find that she had arrived back at the care home at 2.30 in the morning. She must have been sitting in a wheelchair for 9 hours. She is 95, with back problems and always wants to be lying down. If I had been told it was likely to be hours, I would have got staff to help her into my car and would have managed somehow rather than let her suffer like that.

Thank you for taking the time to raise your concern following the care and treatment your mother received whilst a patient in the Emergency Department. I am very sorry to hear that your mother had to wait for such a long time to be taken back to her care home and that she had to sit in a wheelchair and not in a more comfortable position. I hope to reassure you that this is not the standard of care we hope for and work towards. To enable the Trust to investigate this further, can you please contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 01246 5126410 or alternatively crhft.acs@nhs.net and they will be able to liaise with the Emergency Department and provide you with a response. Review titled Fantastic care
Rated 5 stars out of 5

I attended A&E for a bleed in early pregnancy, and the team could not possibly have been any more sympathetic, understanding, professional and caring. I was very surprised at how quickly I was seen. The reception team were compassionate and discreet, the health care assistants and nurse went above and beyond to make sure I felt as comfortable as possible, and I was reassured and kept informed every step of the way. I saw a very caring and professional gynaecologist, and was referred for an urgent scan later that afternoon (it was past midnight when I was seen). This was the best experience I have ever had of using an A&E department, I was so much calmer and felt reassured after leaving, and I felt every single member of staff I saw genuinely cared about me - despite the pressures they were under and how busy the department was. Thank you, Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

Review titled Pain clinic appointment
by Bic1995 - Posted on 11 November 2022
I cannot sit or stand still for very long due to severe pain, hence attending the pain clinic. Left waiting almost 2 hours, only to be told I had been missed because my file wasn’t put in a box. No staff wearing masks and no infection control.
