Review titled Great experience
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Alison H - Posted on 20 December 2023
I recently had a planned robotic laparoscopic hysterectomy and was really impressed by all aspects of my care. The nurses who admitted me at the Elective Care Centre were so helpful and put me at my ease and were very patient in answering the questions that I had. They explained the routine and the other staff who would be involved before, during and after my procedure. I was on the afternoon list so had the morning to wait and they regularly came and checked on me and made sure I was comfortable. The Anaesthetist Associate who came and talked through what would happen was so kind and reassuring - I was so grateful to have met her in advance and to then see a familiar face later when I was in the anaesthetic area. The surgeon also came to see me and to explain further the details of my surgery. She had already telephoned me a few days earlier and gone through everything so thoroughly for which I was very grateful. Having the opportunity to ask any further questions and to clarify aspects of the procedure made such a difference to how I felt about things. When I finally went down for my op, I felt very calm and was reassured by both nurses that accompanied me. The recovery room staff were amazing and so attentive as were the nurses back on Stanway Ward. I cannot fault the care and attention I received during the 36 hours I was there. All the staff were so kind, nothing was too much trouble and I can honestly say that the whole experience was very positive. Thank you everyone. The work you do each day is absolutely brilliant and I, for one, am very grateful.

Review titled Disgraceful lack of care
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 04 December 2023
I recently attended the hospital's A and E Dept (not the subject of this review) following chest pains. I was discharged but referred to the Rapid Chest Pain Clinic. The referral was turned down days later citing a previous phone appointment with a consultant in the last six months as the reason (such consultant appointments are apparently rationed even though this appointment was a review following a major operation). This decision was alarming given the potential seriousness and ongoing nature of my symptoms. Adding to the distress was the lack of professionalism displayed by the staff member delivering this decision. Their dismissive attitude, talking over me, and needlessly repeating information only compounded the frustration and anxiety of the situation. The experience fell far short of reasonable medical care standards.

Review titled Children ward
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Sam - Posted on 13 December 2023
Our daughter was unfortunately taken ill and had to be admitted to the ward. The care was amazing from the initial doctors and nurses all the way through to the end. They ensured that our daughter had the best possible care. We had to stay overnight for 4 nights, they ensured that all of us were comfortable and well informed with her progress. All our questions were answered and our daughter is making a great recovery. We can’t thank all the staff at the children’s ward enough for everything they do. Thank you all

Review titled Perfect from start to finish
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Ann - Posted on 05 November 2023
This was my first time as a user of Colchester hospital and need to give praise where praise due. I retired last year after 43yrs as a nurse and know how lovely it is to get praise in your inbox. Every member of staff I met was professional, polite and helpful. They introduced themselves and explained procedures. My consultation was thorough and the onward plan discussed with me and made clear……. I have to say this was a perfect OPA visit and consultation……Thank you for this

Review titled 2ww Breast Clinic
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Clare Gay - Posted on 18 November 2023
I had my 2ww breast referral appointment today. And I have to say what a wonderful service I have received from Colchester Hospital. I accept that the delay in appointment is tough on everyone but I was seen within 3 weeks of being referred. I was seen by a breast consultant who examined me and ordered xrays and scan. Straight away. I had 4 xrays, these were looked at by a radiologist and then had an ultrasound which radiologist viewed and was given my results straight away. Every member of staff I came in contact with today was friendly, professional and very helpful. This one stop breast clinic was outstanding. It was an extra clinic put on a Saturday to try and catch up on backlog of 2ww appointments that no doubt covid19 has caused. We are so lucky to have such a fantastic NHS on our doorstep. Thank you Colchester Hospital Breast Clinic Well done from a very happy lady who can only encourage any person who finds a lump to get it checked out.

Review titled Great service under extreme pressures.
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Lisa Studd - Posted on 28 November 2023
I had to use the urgent treatment centre at Colchester hospital on Sunday 26th November. Due to upper abdominal pain. The Urgent treatment centre was well organised and I was seen in a good time frame considering the pressures all the teams are under. I was seen by a triage nurse who phoned Amsdec (as I wasn't unwell for a&e.) This was done and a letter was printed and I went to amsdec. I was treated with kindness and compassion the whole time everything was explained to me at all times. I was seen by a doctor who started a treatment of medication and pain relief. I am very proud of the service I received. I always think good feedback is just as crucial as negative feedback. So thank you for taking care of me.

I recently had the unfortunate need of the Doctors/ Nurses/ Surgeons on the Stanway Ward at the hospital. Every single member of staff I dealt with were so friendly, kind, sympathetic and caring. I cannot thank you all enough for everything you did for me over the few days I was in your care.

Review titled extremely impressed
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Samira Kosuta - Posted on 01 November 2023
I arrived on a Sunday morning about 7am at the a&e as I had abdominal pain and suspected it could be the appendix causing issues. The a&e Team Set me up very quickly and took blood and urine samples in the first step before I had seen a doctor - I was really impressed how well organized it was. The a&e Doctor confirmed then that my appendix is causing issues and referred my immediately to the surgical assessment unit (sau)which did a ct a few hours later to confirm the diagnosis. By 3pm in the afternoon I had my diagnosis and they have booked me in for surgery on the same day in the evening. The surgeon and the Anesthetist introduced themselves before surgery and explained the procedure to me. I was taken to the theatre by the surgeon himself which really gave me more confidence ( I was a bit afraid ). As soon as the surgery had been done I was offered a cup of tea and some biscuits. All in all I have to thank the staff for being so kind and helpful. I felt well looked after the whole time. After a day of my arrival in the a&e was discharged and my appendix removed - I felt in best hands all the time. Thank you so much Colchester Hospital
