I attended A&E this week after a fall, the staff there are amazing working under stressful conditions, they are doing everything to help people. They were all good and had some very difficult people to deal with. I can’t praise them enough

My son had his follow up appointment for his eye. All of the nurses and Dr's he saw were incredible, they were so kind to him and gave him the best treatment. I am so grateful to all of them. Thank you !

Review titled Great care for elderly patient
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Jane Ashmore - Posted on 28 May 2024
Just wanted to sing the praises of all the staff at A&E Colchester General Hospital after taking my 91 year old mother on Friday for a suspected blood clot. All of the staff were extremely friendly and professional and treated my mother with the utmost care and respect. I also observed a young doctor speaking to a very awkward patient and he dealt with them in an exemplary manner and was so concerned for their welfare despite obvious difficulties. He was a credit to the NHS. We don't get to hear enough positive reviews for our local hospital so I felt it was important to pass on my thoughts. Thank you and keep up the great work.

Review titled Not fit for the purpose
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Bahman - Posted on 11 May 2024
Gt caring individuals and carers let down by the way their system works. Every visit to the hospital is exhausting and always feel worse after leaving. Spend half day there to get blood test and come back next day and spend hours for blood transfusion which couldn't be done the day before as there was no doctor to prescribe it! Total time spent for this experience 10 hours. A Cancer patient in need of blood transfusion. Probably would have recovered if had rested at home in the first place.

Review titled Disappointed

I was notified by letter and text reminders for a telephone consultation on 23rd May 2024 and duly waited in for the call, (2 hours) which had not come by the end of the day. I tried ringing 'at the end of the day' as advised by the written communication I received, and was unable to be put through to the Cardiology department as 'the secretaries had all gone' (16.00). I have tried calling again this morning (24th May) and cannot progress beyond the answerphone on which I have left messages requesting that someone have the courtesy to call me and let me know what's going on. While I appreciate that specialist staff may be in great demand, the lack of communication is not acceptable.

Review titled Dermatology Department Review
Rated 5 stars out of 5

The receptionist was polite, helpful & approachable, she found time to answer queries from other patients & give directions to those who were lost. A very caring, kind, calm lady who clearly is an asset to the Department & hospital Trust. The nurse practitioner & consultant were very calm, professional & knowledgeable. I received treatment in a timely manner, clear explanations, & there were opportunities given to ask questions. I was treated with dignity & respect.Certainly a 10 out of 10 experience !

Review titled Attentive Care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Emily Bowyer - Posted on 17 April 2024
I had our baby in Colchester Hospital having been admitted for reduced movements. From the First Lady we had look after us, to staff in the delivery suite, then the following aftercare on Lexden Ward, they were all second to none. The staff cannot do enough for you and truly are a credit to the NHS and their communities. I appreciate the difficulty they have when dealing with a large number of people with differing requirements for care but they do not discriminate and are willing to spend time explaining what needs to be done and what they are doing. A special mention to the delivery team and the midwife who was in charge on night shifts who were absolutely amazing throughout. Child birth is one of the most traumatic experiences I have had but they are a credit to you All staff who had any involvement in my care I would request are sent this and reminded that they are truly appreciated for the work they do and care they showed me throughout my stay. You really did make a tough experience a positive one for me and one I will never forget for the rest of my life. Thank you.

Review titled Notorious for answering phones
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 04 April 2024
In all departments, the admin staff are notoriously reluctant to pick up phones. It is extremely rare for a caller to speak to someone when ringing. One always gets the voicemail saying they are too busy, really? Chatting or on their mobile? I left a message a week ago today for a return call which the voicemail said would be in 48 hours - still waiting, and same answer today when called again. Even after making allowance gor the bank holiday they have had ample time to return the call. Everyone says they never get through. What are the admin staff and managers doing? Privatise the admin services and they would soon find what it is like not picking up phone or telling people to wait for 48 hrs for a return call, and then simply not calling at all.
