  1. Review titled Excellent practice from all staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Nicola - Posted on 06 November 2022

Although the wait time was long, i witnessed all staff at conquest hospital emergency department's, to be thorough, friendly, helpful, caring, compassionate (especially with challenging behaviour) knowledgeable and, despite their difficult schedule, upbeat with a good sense of humour. Absolutely excellent attention received. Thank you. You deserve so much more than you get.

Dear Nicola, Thank you for taking the time to leave us such lovely feedback about your observations and experience of the Emergency Department (ED) at Conquest Hospital; we do appreciate it. The Trust works hard to provide a high standard of care to all patients and whilst we are sorry that you incurred a long wait to be seen, we are delighted to read you witnessed all staff to be thorough, friendly, helpful and caring as this underpins our values of respect and compassion. The flow of patients through the ED can make it a complex and challenging area of care, so we pleased to note you found staff to be upbeat and with a good sense of humour as this undoubtedly lifted patient spirits. We will share your generous words with staff as they will want to know how grateful you are for the care they provided. Take care Nicola, and keep well and safe.

  2. Review titled Lovely staff :)

Rated 5 stars out of 5

We attended a and e with our teenage son early hours of this morning - from the lovely receptionist who was so nice & understanding on arrival, to the amazing guy Taking bloods and his lovely nurse colleague who exercised genuine care, compassion and patience with my son whilst he was having a meltdown , even asking how I was doing. I have to say despite the circumstances, I could not fault the care, the lovely staff and the time they took to make us feel understood. Real superstars of our NHS - thank you so much, you are greatly valued & appreciated:)

Dear Catherine, Thank you for taking the time to leave us such lovely feedback about the experience you had when you accompanied your son to the Emergency Department (ED) at Conquest Hospital; we do appreciate it. The Trust works hard to provide a high standard of care to all patients, and so we are delighted to read you observed your son being cared for in a kind, thoughtful and caring manner as this underpins our values of respect and compassion. It was also nice to read that staff also checked in with you as a worried parent. We very much hope your son is recovering from the symptoms that he presented to the ED with, and we will share your generous words with staff as they will want to know how grateful you are for the care given to your son. We hope he, you and your family are keeping well and safe Catherine. Take care.

I had a CT scan and the treatment I had from all the nursing staff and the Dr was sensitive, informative, professional, kind and patient, even with this old woman with a walking stick! They should be appreciated and valued. In this case I cannot praise the department enough.

  4. Review titled Disgusting

Rated 1 star out of 5

Was assigned to a consultant who called his patients “ungrateful” and told them they were using up beds unnecessarily when clearly these people were suffering and in extreme amounts of pain. I went in for abdominal surgery, and I would never go here again. The surgeons were absolutely lovely, but the aftercare from the consultant was appalling. Not told what happened in my surgery, and was sent home in agony with no support and an appointment for three months time. Absolutely disgusting treatment. Please don't go here if you have any other choice, it would save you alot of time and pain.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us some feedback about your recent experience of care at Conquest Hospital; we do appreciate it as it is important that we listen to and learn from patient experience wherever we can. The Trust works very hard to provide all patients with a high standard of care, and therefore we are both disappointed and very concerned to read this was not always your recent experience. Whilst it is assuring to read you were pleased with the surgeons, we are unhappy to read your aftercare from the Consultant was unsatisfactory and offer our apologies for this. We are very keen to learn more about your experience and if you feel able to provide more details, then please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 0300 131 5309 so that we have an opportunity to learn from this incident. We hope you are making, or have now made, a good recovery from your abdominal surgery and send you our best wishes. Take care, keep well and stay safe.

  5. Review titled Terrible nurse .

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 12 October 2022

I work with aggressive , mentally unwell patients . I took a patient to have bloods taken at 1555 hours . The nurse was very rude from arrival to me (bearing in mind i was dressed in my hospital scrubs) until the end . She asked 'did you need to be there '? i explained why i did and then said 'well come in then , you cant stand there ' and i awkwardly stood as i didn't know where to go or stand . So i walked and went to sit down and she said' well you cant sit there - that's my seat - just go over there and stand behind there ' in an impolite , rude , patronizing way . So annoyed and close to saying something , i stood and waited . She then spoke to the potentially aggressive patient very rudely and with no patience what so ever and shut down everything he said and when he would talk , she would shut him down . She would tell him 'Sit still , stop moving , turn your hand over ,move your head' . All the while agitating the patient more and more - talking to him with no manors or patience and also obviously whispering to the other person . The whole experience was awkward and unpleasant

  6. Review titled Amazing members of staff.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Jade Wenbourne - Posted on 30 September 2022

After having bleeding occur during my pregnancy, being constantly sick throughout, I ended up on Frank Shaw ward over the last couple of days. I honestly couldn't have had a better experience here. After spending 2 hours at A&E at another hospital, to be told they don't have a midwifery department... We drove to Conquest Hospital, went to the A&E department, they could not have been more helpful after realising what I had already been through- made sure I could go down to the midwifery department with no fuss. Despite the fact this was very early hours of the morning at this point, they made me feel so comfortable, although I was visibly distressed. I was then monitored quickly, given all the appropriate tests, got to hear our baby's heartbeat and felt so reassured. I have then spent today on Frank Shaw ward and had the most wonderful members of staff take great care of me. They even made my partner feel really comfortable here. They were so friendly and encouraging, especially after they realised just how dehydrated I was. Thankfully I am fine now, baby is all fine and I got to go home. Unfortunately, I won't get to see them again as I am under a different hospital generally for my prenatal care, but even that didn't stop them doing an amazing job. It's a shame I cannot mention them by name, because they honestly deserve all the praise. Thank you so much everyone.

As a Trust, we strive to provide all patients we see with a high and timely standard of care, and your feedback reaffirms this was the case for you and your partner. Given how unwell you were and, undoubtedly worried for your baby, it is very reassuring for us to read of the swift, kind and compassionate care you received, and the effort made to support and reassure your partner too. It must have been of great relief to you both for you to recover and to know baby was fine, and we very much hope you have continued to rest and to feel better. Our midwifery staff take great pride in the role they play in bringing new life into the world, and we hope that when it's time for your little one to arrive you have the right care and support (and the same for your partner). We will ensure your generous words are shared with the midwifery team, as they will be touched by your kindness. Please take care Jade, keep well and safe and we send you and your partner our very best wishes.

  7. Review titled Audiology via ENT

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 28 September 2022

I had an ENT appointment where they wanted me to have a hearing test whilst I was there. I was seen in audiology and the staff member that did my hearing test was very rude and abrupt, and clearly had no interest in helping or listening to patients. I can’t fault the rest of the ENT staff, the consultant explained everything well to me and was very reassuring.

  9. Review titled Professional, reassuring, communicative and good humoured

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Peter Webb - Posted on 31 July 2022

On the evening of Thursday 28 July, while putting the shopping away, I slipped & fell, ending up sitting on a smashed bottle which sent a large broken piece of glass slicing through my leg. A chunk of flesh was taken out & several blood vessels were severed, creating a considerable flow of blood down the leg, over the lip of the clog, across the floor and collecting in a massive clot - in what the dog obviously thought was a special treat. For 47 years I've received first aid treatment from my wife, an experienced nurse (retired), who was sadly taken last year by cancer - before her time. Living on my own, I’ve now discovered that situations like this can be quite challenging. I wrapped a towel around the injury, called the neighbours who came round immediately and were brilliant. They called for an ambulance which arrived in 25 minutes from the other side of Hastings, after negotiating all the road closures. The ambulance crew were also brilliant. Next, the A/E medical & nursing staff were superb. Speed was of the essence & it took them no time to weld together as a team. At one point my pulse fell to 90 and I passed out, presumably due to blood loss. The doctor worked quickly and skilfully and succeeded in stemming the blood flow. I was lucky to have not one but two sisters looking after me and they sorted me out in a side room in CDU. All the staff were marvellous and it's a shame I can't name any of them. The two sisters obviously had a very good rapport both between themselves, and with other staff they worked with. Very on the ball, very caring, very engaging in conversation to keep my mind off any pain from the injury. The doctor who cleaned and dressed the wound had the lightest of touch. I stayed overnight and was discharged in the morning, Friday 29 July. An ambulance was already waiting and took myself and another patient back to Bexhill. The crew were great. I cannot praise your staff enough. Thank you for everything, Conquest & Ambulance.

  10. Review titled Phlebotomy Department

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I have had to visit the phlebotomy department at the Conquest a number of times over the years and I wanted to say how incredible they are. I don’t think I have ever even sat down in the waiting room as they are always running on time. The reception staff are so friendly and welcoming and the technicians are so efficient, professional and super fast! I visited yesterday and they may have broken their own record as I was in and out in under 5 minutes! If there was an option to provide a star rating I would give them 5 stars every time!
