  2. Review titled Extraordinary culture at this hospital

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Helen - Posted on 15 May 2023

This is my local hospital and I've visited several different departments over the past few months, most recently paediatric A&E last night. Every single time I've visited, including last night, all the staff I've met have been kind, courteous, compassionate and friendly. I can honestly say I haven't encountered a single staff member who hasn't fitted that description in 4 trips here since the start of the year. That's despite some of the departments clearly being under a lot of pressure at different points. I think that's remarkable, and it must be related to the hospital culture. Thank you to all the staff who work to maintain that culture. I'm sure it isn't easy at times, but it makes a huge difference to patients and carers.

  3. Review titled Bad practice

I ruptured my Achilles in January and after a trip to A&E, I was told to wear a boot whilst they booked me in for a scan. I was then booked into a scan and told I had a micro tear to my achilles and was told to wear my boot for six weeks. After further assessment of the leg, they went against the results from the ultrasound and said I should wear the boot for 6 weeks and from there we will reassess. After the six weeks went by, I saw another doctor and he asked whether i had seen anyone since my last trip to the hospital (was obviously a no). He then assessed my leg and said he is going to put me in for an MRI before he will give me plan of action. I then went to the MRI department and booked myself in. I received a letter in the post for an appointment to discuss my MRI results scheduled in 7 weeks time. I first complained about this as it had already been 8 weeks without no clear instructions on what to do other than using guidance from other people on Youtube. I was not told how many wedges to remove or when i can start weight bearing. Anyways the hospital rescheduled for 2 weeks time instead and an hour before my appointment cancelled. It is super frustrating as i feel like i have wasted the last 11 weeks not knowing a thing to do. I have had zero contact from my doctor about anything. This is extremely unnacceptable.

  4. Review titled Lack of care and unprofessional

Rated 1 star out of 5

I have been a patient for 8 years. Consultant appointments waiting times over two hours, does not listen to my health problems, she is very busy excuse, drugs costs as an excuse for lack of help, once a year appointments, impossible to see a consultant if you have pain, appointments system always cancelling and postponing, rude nurses, the worst experience of my life.

  5. Review titled Speedy service and excellent and encouraging care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I counted 33 people in the waiting room at A&E - it was late morning and and more were arriving all the time. There was a long queue to register and I thought I'd be there for hours. Amazingly I was seen within about an hour, and not only was the doctor as efficient as you'd hope but was also positive and encouraging, explaining as he/she dressed my wound, how a positive attitude can enhance healing. I have a lot of health issues but I came out feeling uplifted and more hopeful about my life than I had in months.

  6. Review titled Worst service

Hospital with a bad reputation for things going wrong and incompetent and rude staff, and now I know why. Abnormal results after a smear test. The next stage they did a colposcopy. Didn't explain things properly or the after care. Now that the result were abnormal and the next procedure needs to be done, the hospital keep moving the appointment. They tell me my results are serious, but you keep moving my appointment back. I'm keeping a record, because if anything goes wrong, and the delay in the procedure I'm reporting this.

  7. Review titled Poor support for patient distress

Patient Review Croydon University Hospital submitted 3rd June 2023 I had lost my mother two weeks prior to coming into the hospital and this was something i told to 3 doctors, I was admitted on Tuesday 17th January 2023, that night I slept, and Wednesday I slept. This was wholly due to the fact my wife was on the same ward in a side room and I took comfort from this Thursday night i just could not sleep and i told this to the nurses on duty but they didn’t do anything with that information Friday night again i was unable to sleep and i told the nurses on duty and again they did nothing I had to ring the Samaritans at 2am Saturday morning as i was feeling overwhelmed. I told the nurse on reception, and she said nothing. Saturday morning i was exhausted and felt very tearful and upset, and i was sobbing, again i told 3 nurses that i had not slept for two nights and they did nothing to help me. At this point i was feeling desperate as i had been ignored and they knew what was going on with me, i went for a walk down to where Marks and Spencer was and hung around for a while, then when i thought of going back up to the ward i could not face it and i felt that i was not being cared for, i was uncared for and my health was suffering because of it, my needs and difficulties were not seen as a priority and i was shown no empathy, compassion or understanding. I could not face going back up there where i would face a lack of care for my health, so i decided i needed to go home and go to bed, as i felt at that moment i had to care for my own health and i could only do that by leaving the hospital and going to get some rest and be able to sleep. It was not a decision i took lightly as i knew that i needed help and care from the hospital with my health problems i got home on Saturday the 21st January midday and went straight to bed. don’t get me wrong there were some really great and committed nurses on duty i just made the mistake of asking the wrong ones or the ones i told felt there was nothing they could do so they ignored the problems i was telling them about i went back on Sunday with two of my daughters, to find that i had been discharged and that was that. I had written them a letter about my experience and handed it to them there and then but I have never received any reply Now i feel too anxious to come and receive treatment at the hospital

  8. Review titled care for mother

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Glen Morgan - Posted on 15 January 2023

i rang 111 on 7 Jan due to my elderly mother having a swelling on her back in area of kidney due to an inoperable staghorn kidney stone due to her fragile condition for which she has to permanently take antibiotics. the last time this ocurred the swelling was drained off fairly quickly, 111 arranged, via doctor, to get us a payed cab as they were very concerned and suggested she get treatment asap. we arrived at 10:30 am and never left until late in evening, we were just eventually given more antibiotics as after scans e.t.c. we were told it was just a ut infection. Her condition has not improved or her mental state and our regular doctor has suggested we return to hospital but i doubt we will use Mayday, he was also wondering why we were not treated in Urology given her medical condition?

  9. Review titled knowledgeable and very kind

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by jennifer Stanley - Posted on 12 June 2023

I saw a charming doctor, who examined my three lesions and prescribed cream and a follow up appointment to be sent. I did not receive an appointment, but did receive a letter cancelling an appointment for 7th March, 2023 and I was told in the letter that another would be sent as soon as possible. To date I have not received one and a letter I wrote asking if I had been discharged, was not acknowledged or answered. I would like to know if I am still on the list to be checked as all lesions are changing and I need to know what to do about them. I do feel that there is a lack of coordination between the medical and office staff. Many thanks

  10. Review titled absolutely death trap.

Rated 1 star out of 5

monday I went to a&e.on advice of heart clinic doctors. I went in 10:00 am sadly setting they over 31 hours without out any medicine or treatment. Not even food for 31 hours. Just 500 ml bottle of water at 10:00 am Tuesday morning after crying and pain. My advice only go to this hospital if you wish to die. Even Nursing staff say why I was they why I don’t go to at George’s hospital. i agreed to this point 1000% hell better for treatment After over 31 hours I had to discharge my self at 16:45.
