  1. Review titled 9 and half hours till my mum of 75 years of age was seen!

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 17 November 2022

My mother was told by 111 to go to a and e after having heart palpitations and dizzy Ness with her BP reading at hypertension danger levels when taken she went to a and e at darenth valley at midnight she did not get seen until 930 am all night she sat on a chair cold and cried she is 75 years old for god sake what is wrong with the people that work there that could do that to a human being and when she was finally seen they said please just tell your GP. I would never ever want anyone else parent or grand parent or any human being to lose a while nights sleep fee rough tired In pain In danger of having a heart attack or a stroke just left there like they don't matter! So upsetting and so out of order what can be happening there in that hospital for that many hours that someone just one staff member could not Have said that go home call Ur gp earlier at the beginning when arriving if they thought that 111 advise was incorrect ! So upset that this happened to my mum she works hard all these years and did not get the help she needed when she needed it.

We are sorry that your mother had such a long wait within our Emergency Department (ED). Unfortunately, our ED department is extremely busy with some very unwell patients, and attendees are triaged in priority order. Although we fully appreciate your worry and concern that your mother spent the night in the department waiting to be seen by a doctor after she had been assessed. If you would like to discuss what happened to your mum and why she had such a long wait, please do contact us directly so we can discuss the concerns you have raised. Contact details are: Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS), telephone: 01322 428382 or email: dgn-tr.PALS@nhs.net.

Heart attack ambulance 12 minutes straight into resuss multiple tests moved around a bit until into cardio ward then stent inserted and home. Can't fault the care and the follow up was excellent including nurses at darenth valley queen Mary's and St Thomas referral gp follow up also spot on Amazed that every one of multiple follow up appointments was on time or earlier! Doctors and nurses very professional and hard working and attentive. Good experience all round never felt better Thank you

  3. Review titled Useless

Rated 1 star out of 5

My aunt was admitted nearly a fortnight ago. Trying to ring up and find out what ward she was in was a nightmare. If the phone doesn't get answered in a minute or so you get cut off. Talking with her care team leader yesterday I was amazed when she said did I know where my aunt was as Darent Hospital said she had never been admitted but had been discharged on the same day she went in. I had found out what ward my aunt was on and had spoken with her on the phone. A lovely neighbour had been visiting each day and was able to tell me where she was and where they were moving her to, that day, tomorrow, the day after. They didn't have a clue. Is it really my job to advise her care team where she is because the hospital doesn't have a clue? So glad I live 300 miles away and won't ever have the delightful experience of this hospital myself.

We were sorry to read that our service didn't meet your expectations and certainly understand your frustration of trying to locate your aunt. We do advise friends and family members, where possible to have one point of contact with a patients progress as this frees up staff time from repeated phone calls but appreciate sometimes this is not always possible. We are always willing to receive feedback good or bad, so if you would like to contact us directly, we can discuss the concerns you have raised. 4. Review titled Terrible service/ Terrible Service

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 22 October 2022

Absolutely terrible service in the emergency room. My wife is pregnant and has cancer and the emergency room was adamant that only one parent could be in the room our child. They mentioned that they would help but they are sort staffed. Regardless of how many times we explained to them our situation they still made me leave. The service is horrible , by far one of the worst experiences I’ve had at a hospital.

  5. Review titled Embarrassment to call NHS

Rated 1 star out of 5

Took my partner up to Darenth Valley at 21:00pm. Still sitting here at 4:00am and not one person has seen him. Even tho he came in with chronic chest pain. was up here yesterday! A doctor prescribed wrong medication. Medication for arthritis when he hasn’t even be diagnosed for that. Absolutely disgusting receptionist, women with blonde hair. Spoke to me like absolute dirt. Honestly disgrace this hospital/ department. Everyone standing around having a chat in the back reception desk while you have the sick and elderly waiting for over 8 hours! No excuse for this in my opinion. Absolutely disgusted. Some of these nurses and doctors that have pins should be taken off them!!!!!!!!!

  6. Review titled Huge improvement over the past couple of years

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Karl Lucas - Posted on 19 November 2022

My mother had to visit A&E and was taken care of extremely well. The ambulance staff were excellent as always - caring, helpful and very professional. Time to be seen by the doctor on arrival was 1 hour and the attending doctor was also excellent. She undertook a thorough assessment and from then on kept us appraised of the sequence of events every 20 minutes so that we were not left in the dark. Her bedside manner, and that of the nurses was just so reassuring and empathetic that my mother felt at ease the whole time. The person who registered my wife and I in the waiting room was similarly professional - there was a lady ahead of us who only spoke Italian and he made a point of seeking out a doctor who could converse in the language. The total time in hospital was around 4-5 hours and although most of that time was spent in the hallway, the experience was a positive one and an immense improvement on our previous visit 2 years ago. Congratulations to the hospital and my sincere thanks to all the staff who go over and above to keep us safe.

  7. Review titled Thank you, Rowan Ward,

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Sue - Posted on 20 October 2022

I was admitted as an emergency recently via the Emergency Department (ED) with really bad pain that turned out to be gallbladder related. when I got to Rowan, I was tired and exhausted and was met by the kindest loveliest nurse who knew that I needed to sleep. He was quick and efficient and thorough in doing what he needed to do. He then almost apologetically said " I will have to wake you at 5.30 am." It was so kind and informative, and true to his word there he was again at 5.30. I was on the ward for 8 days and at all times, staff were respectful, kind, warm and friendly. there were run ragged with work, and it was tough to see them working so hard. They worked well as a team, and I am so thankful to them for caring for me.

I was admitted as an emergency recently via the Emergency Department (ED) with really bad pain. I was met with kindness and efficiency in ED. Pain relief was swift and thankfully effective. The department was busy and yet there was an air of calm about the place which was very helpful, and I am so thankful to the staff for their kindness and compassion. It helped so much

  9. Review titled Great care until you have a baby then goes from 100 to 0

Rated 3 stars out of 5

    by Charlie s - Posted on 09 September 2022

Arrived at cedar ward on Tuesday what a great service (slight queue) but was introduced and looked after very well, birthing partners are very welcome and very well looked after with plenty refreshments to offer throughout. Had the baby very quicker and was moved into the birth centre opposite / aftercare . Wasn’t introduced by any staff soon arrival or asked if we required any assistance etc. floor was filthy dirty with rubbish on the floor by bed given. The following morning the tea lady comes around and completely ignored the birthing partner didn’t make any eye contact and only asked if one of us wanted a tea or coffee. When we asked for a tea and coffee we was told we wasn’t allowed . I’m sorry we have been given refreshments for the last 3 days why all of a sudden are they not entitled to a coffee after this hospital is a NHS hospital. Absolutely disgraceful.

by Zaneta Naujoke - Posted on 29 September 2022

I had my baby in Darent Valley hospital on 20th of September and cannot express how amazing and caring staff work there. Everyone was kind, caring and so supportive throughout our stay. I felt in safe hands all the way through my induction, birth, surgical department and recovery. They made my absolute horrific birth experience so positive. We are extremely thankful for every single person we have met. Thank you all million times for support and care! ❤️
