Review titled Fantastic care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Samantha Allinson - Posted on 07 October 2023
The care given from the initial emergency admittance was outstanding. From surgery and identifying the problem to the day to day care on the ward was fantastic. All staff showed commitment to providing an excellent service within an often stressful environment. Feedback and communication to relatives was readily available and sensitivity shown to the patient. It was a relief to know that my family member was receiving the best possible care and attention. I am extremely thankful to every staff member on Ward 44 for all their hard work!

Review titled Poor empathy or care from treatment staff

Fractured foot - nurses were rough unempathetic and frankly the two I got appeared like they didn’t want to be there. They didn’t explain anything just gave me two leaflets and sent me on my way. Unable to walk in hindsight I should have raised a fuss while I was there

Review titled Excellent Treatment

This department is exceptional in the care that it provides. Unfortunately, the struggle to get to the department is unacceptable. Trying to park a car at this hospital leaves patients traumatised. Surely something can be done about members of the public who use this car park daily when they are car sharing and have no appointment or connection with anyone who has an appointment at the hospital.

I attended A/E on the 25/4/23 after sustaining a distal radial fracture ,whilst on holiday in Egypt, within 15 mins arrival in the department I was seen by a Practioner sent to X-ray and then informed by the practioner that orthopaedics had seen the X-rays and I required surgery, was given appointment in the fracture clinic on the 26/4/23, where I saw a surgeon who explained what procedure they would be doing , I also had a ECG and bloods taken at this appointment, , on the evening of the 27/4/23 I was contacted by a clinical nurse practitioner advising me that I was listed for surgery the following day.I duly attended on Friday the 28/4/23 and spent all day waiting to go to theatre only to be told at 4.45 it was cancelled due to complications with the previous patient, this happens, I was contacted on the Friday evening and informed I was on the list for Saturday 29/4/24 , surgery was performed under a total nerve block , my wrist was pinned and plated, the care from all members of the care team from surgeons through to all nursing staff has been outstanding,10 out 10

Review titled Wonderful care
Rated 5 stars out of 5

Arrived at A&E following a collapse. From the reception staff to the doctor on my hospital journey I was treated with care and respect. I did have to wait a long time for a bed but this is unfortunately normal practice within all of the NHS and is out of the control of the employees. I had extensive tests and my observations were taken on a regular basis. The care was first class from all who worked there under very difficult conditions for them with some very difficult and complex patients arriving accompanied by Police who needed backup. I applaud them all.

Review titled Lack of Care
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Garry Edkins - Posted on 12 May 2023
My dad spent ten days in Darlington Memorial and he was in a worse condition than when he went in. He was catheterised for no reason but to make things easier for medical staff. His eating habits were not monitored and I had to bring him food in just so that he could eat. After several blood tests that left him looking like a pin cushion, they had no diagnosis, even up to the point when I decided to bring him home as I was worried about his deteriorating health. On his release he was supposed to have an assessment regarding any help he would need at home, yet two weeks on we have heard nothing and every time I ring the Hospital I am promised a return call that never happens.

Review titled Fantastic service

I came to A&E with a head injury sustained playing football. I was seen by a nurse after 15 minutes and explained my situation, she went out of her way to help me. I was seen around 15-20 minutes later by another nurse who put staples into my head and given a lot of information which was great. I can’t thank the staff enough, both the young lady who saw me initially and the lady who put the staples in. I was in and out if A&E in less than an hour. Thank you. B.Wood
