Also the ambulance crew from Derrisford station were excellent more than helpful, never left till they were satisfied I was been looked after. Cant thank them all for their care and attention.

Review titled General overview
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Mark Veale - Posted on 02 November 2024
I was lucky as a day case to not stay longer than necessary. Staff couldn't find my pre-op notes before the op. The surgical team were brilliant, explaining everything and putting me at ease. However, after open inguinal surgery, the nursing team initially denied my request for something stronger than paracetamol for pain relief, claiming that there was none onsite. It was only after I stood my ground (and with the support of the anaesthetist) and explained that after open surgery, a stronger analgesia should be provided, rather than over the counter minor pain relief, that they relented and gave me 5 days worth of medication. I cannot help but feel for the others in similar situations to myself, who know no better, and have essentially been fobbed off with little in the way of adequate pain relief- it actually breaks my heart, as I saw much older patients being told that all they were getting was paracetamol for exactly the same surgery as mine.

Christopher Briggs, Consultant Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgeon has replied to say: I believe our standard aftercare for inguinal hernia surgery is for a combination of paracetamol and NSAIDs which the NHS expects patients to purchase themselves before surgery. However, if they do not have them they can be provided as a ward pack. You requested a stronger form of NSAID which we do not routinely keep on our ward and we had to send to pharmacy to get this – which we did at your request. If patients are intolerant of NSAIDS we offer alternatives such as co-codamol. I’m sorry you felt that we had not complied with your request and I also hope you are recovering well.

Review titled Great Consultant

I had a second opinion appointment today with a gynaecologist after my previous appointment with a different gynaecologist left me in tears and still not reassured after a cancel referral. The lady I saw today was so amazing. She listened to me and took the time to go back over my medical history that brought me there in the beginning. Left feeling totally reassured and with a plan in place. Thank you so much.

Review titled A Huge Thank You to the Erme Ward Team at Derriford Hospital
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Davies - Posted on 14 October 2024
I cannot express enough gratitude for the exceptional care my mother received during her time on Erme Ward at Derriford Hospital. She was admitted under very stressful circumstances for a craniotomy, complicated by her underlying dementia. Throughout what was a deeply worrying time for our family, the entire Erme Ward team went above and beyond to provide her with the most compassionate and professional care imaginable. The nursing / healthcare team was simply incredible. They treated my mother with the utmost respect and dignity, ensuring she was comfortable and well looked after. Their warmth and patience were a source of comfort for both her and us as a family. Every single person took the time to make her feel safe and reassured, which meant the world to us. A huge thank you as well to the occupational therapists and physiotherapists. They worked tirelessly to support my mother’s recovery, offering her not only physical rehabilitation but also encouragement and positivity . Their dedication to her well-being was so evident, and we could see the difference it made in her progress. The surgical team, too, deserves special mention. Their expertise and skill and their clear communication with our family about the procedure and expected recovery was so appreciated. We knew she was in safe hands throughout. It is clear that everyone on Erme Ward works seamlessly together, from the surgeons to the nurses and therapists, to ensure that patients receive the best possible care. The teamwork, professionalism, and empathy displayed by all of you have been truly remarkable. My family and I feel incredibly fortunate that my mother was cared for by such a wonderful group of people during this challenging time. You have all made such a difference, and we will never forget the kindness and support you showed her. Thank you, Erme Ward team, for going above and beyond. You are truly a credit to Derriford Hospital!

I had an elective csection and the care and treatment i received was absolutely wonderful from start to finish. I unfortunately had some complications after my surgery and had to stay an additional 4 days. I cannot honestly say thank you enough for the care and service the wonderful maternity team gave me and my daughter. The care the staff gave us was second to none and I wanted to make sure they got a wonderful review as some recognition for the work they do. Thank you, thank you, thank you to each and everyone one of you!

Review titled Exemplary highly skilled care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Lynne T-S - Posted on 13 November 2024
I am recovering from spinal decompression surgery. Every member of the neurosurgical team has been knowledgeable, highly skilled, informative, contactful and able to communicate clearly with me. I trusted my neurosurgeon from our first meeting. I consider myself lucky to have had this level of care after the unexpected complications in surgery. The operation has been much more and the recovery much more painful than I anticipated yet, now, 3 weeks on, I am moving with more ease and feeling confident of a full recovery. Deep thanks to everyone in Moorgate trauma ward, Postbridge recovery unit and the extensive Neurosurgical team. Also the depth of care I received from the physiotherapists has been so supportive : inspirational and reassuring . I am truly grateful to all the staff teams at every level. This is NHS care at its best.

I attended A&E, X-ray and the Sdecs departments after breaking my arm on Friday the 13th!!! The treatment I received was excellent. Everyone I came into contact with were really fantastic. That includes medical staff, admin, porters, cleaners, volunteers and support staff. I hope I haven’t missed anyone. They made a real difference to a traumatic day. A big thankyou to everyone.
